Mated to the Mad Lord-Chapter 177: New Pet
Chapter 177: New Pet
"Call me if anything happens!" Vazer had told Cain as he watched him get in the car, having placed the cage in another one while another car waited for him.
He was a lord with his own district! No one would believe that he would care enough to actually go out of his way to help Cain. Vazer turned around to leave the moment he was done speaking, not at all expecting a response from Cain—only to get one.
"Be careful of Javi!" he heard in a voice that could only belong to Cain. He jerked his head back to confirm it, only to hear the loud sound of the car door being slammed shut before watching the car zoom off, almost like the driver had received instructions to immediately disappear.
"Head to the airstrip as fast as possible!" Vazer ordered the second he got into his car, again wishing his bloodline power wasn’t shapeshifting and instead something speed-related.
His thoughts focused on his parents and his two twin sisters, whom he adored to death.
One would think that centuries would have stopped them from being so childish! he thought to himself, wondering what variety of blood they might prefer and what race they would rather have for dinner.
I might as well get one of each! he concluded with a smile as the car zoomed off, willing to spoil them until they were too old and could do nothing but lay in a coffin in the way all Reds returned to eternal sleep when their bodies could no longer support the unique powers in their blood.
Cain had just gotten home with the cage in his hand, covered by a piece of cloth, when one of the elite guards stepped closer to him, his heart pounding in his chest as he bitterly wondered where Frank, their leader, could possibly have gone.
"My lord! I can help you with that!" he immediately offered, aware that the lord shouldn’t be carrying anything they could assist with.
Only to hear Cain speak to him, words that made him internally breathe a sigh of relief—one he didn’t dare to show.
"It’s my new pet. I’ll carry it!" the guard heard, his brows darting up in surprise as his eyes scanned the huge cage. He couldn’t see what was inside, but it was obvious that a small pet wouldn’t need such a massive cage.
What is it? A Siberian tiger? A black mamba? Why is it so quiet? he wondered, even as he got to his feet and obediently followed behind Cain without saying another word.
Cain continued heading towards his wing with the cage in his hand, not sparing a single glance toward the eyes that seemed to focus completely on the cage as he ascended the stairs, where he met Frank, who had just stepped out of a room.
Dropping to his knees in a show of respect, "My lord!" His gaze was focused completely on Cain, who nodded at him before moving right into the room with Frank following behind him. The elite guard who had been present was still wondering whether or not he should follow, only to shrink back as Frank entered behind Cain and turned around, slamming the door shut before he could step inside.
I want to see the pet too! he mumbled to himself, reluctantly turning around and leaving, wondering why Frank had to sweep in at the exact moment he wasn’t needed.
Back inside the room, Frank stood by the door while Cain moved closer to the bed, placing the cage on the ground before tossing off the black cloth covering it and unlatching the door.
Inside was a woman with pale skin and a dark blindfold around her eyes, lying inside fast asleep. Cain didn’t hesitate to pull the cage apart a bit more, bringing her body out, not surprised to see her not stir regardless of the movement he made.
He pulled the blindfold from her eyes, staring at the face he had expected to see, before carrying her in his arms and placing her on the bed as he spoke to Frank.
"The chains?" he asked a second after he pulled away, watching her sleeping figure. Observing her chest rise and fall, confirming she was indeed breathing and still fast asleep.
"They have been placed in the box!" Frank immediately responded with a bow, knowing better than to concern himself with whatever had happened or would happen.
His obedience was to the lord and nothing more, as he heard Cain dismiss him, turning around to leave that very second—only to hear Cain remind him of something he was already very well aware of.
"She’s my new pet. I’m naming her Viole!" Cain ordered, just before reminding Frank to call in Uva after he left. Frank bowed again and hurriedly closed the door, rushing to do exactly as he was told.
Cain remained standing beside the bed, staring at Violet and, most importantly, at the collar around her neck. He squatted beside the bed and began to speak.
"I’m not sure if I should thank you or punish you for leaving!" he whispered, stretching his hand out to pull off the black wig that had been worn over her head, revealing her short hair, which had grown long enough to almost reach her eyes.
He stared intensely at her face, only to see nothing but brown where he would have previously seen purple.
He was about to say more, sliding his fingers through her hair, when he heard the sound of a knock on the door—a signal that Uva had arrived. He immediately ushered her in.
"Change her face, but not her skin tone!" Cain ordered, even as Uva continued to bow beside him, confirming her instructions.
"Should I make her prettier?" she asked, aware that the last thing she wanted to do was something that would piss Cain off, considering that she would be using the magic within her blood instead of a potion, which would make the effects more permanent and difficult to see through.
For a moment, there was nothing but utter silence. Uva considered that her question had somehow not reached Cain, that it had gotten lost in the wind, which was why she was yet to get a response. She was prepared to ask again.
"Sh-should I make her—"
"No! There’s no need to do that. Just change her face!" he ordered, his tone sharp.
Uva hurriedly nodded and raised both her hands, beginning to speak strange words that conjured glowing symbols in the air.
Cain watched from the side, unconcerned with how she would look, as long as she was useful for the purpose he had bought her for.
