Mated to the Mad Lord-Chapter 252: Fervor
Chapter 252: Fervor
But Fervor had just finished speaking when Grainger spoke up with a deep frown on his face as he stared in his direction with a domineering gaze.
"Who the hell are you, and how did you get in?" he snapped, jumping to his feet with a furious expression on his face, about to gesture to his head of guards, who stood beside him, to step forward when Fervor, who still had a stone-cold expression on his face, simply stepped forward closer to the table to take a seat like he hadn’t been spoken to.
This infuriated Grainger beyond words, and the other lords, whose aura was starting to intensify, especially since it was clear that they were prepared to attack at any moment. Especially Grainger, who had been ignored.
But such thoughts were still flashing in their minds when they suddenly heard a clacking sound against the table as they watched Fervor toss something on it—a token they all understood the meaning of, since each of them had one.
"William named me his guardian before his death, so of course, I have every right to sit at this table!" he replied with a shrug of his shoulders and a slight frown.
It was already too much that he had spoken so much, and the thought that he would still need to speak more to the people around him was something he found to be mildly infuriating as he slowly dug into his pocket.
The next second, he brought out a voice recorder and gently placed it on the table before pressing play. William’s voice echoed around the room as his voice could be heard by everyone there for a few seconds before it ended.
"I also have it signed in writing!" Fervor added, not surprised to see the intensity of their gaze not reduce in the slightest as they continued to each stare down at him like he was nothing but a bug.
One that was clearly getting in their way.
"If you have any—" he began to say with a mostly blank expression on his face, only to be interrupted before he could finish by Magnus, who had been looking but yet to speak.
"For all we know, you killed him!" he snapped with great displeasure in his tone. Magnus had already imagined the share of William’s district he would get, considering the fact that he had no direct relatives who were still living.
How could he readily accept that not only was there a child, but there was also a guardian who would serve as lord until the child was old enough?
It was impossible!
"For all we know, you could have orchestrated his death to take his place! Do you think you’ll get a place at the table without being properly vetted?" Magnus went ahead to ask, fuming, but a trace of a smile simply flashed across Fervor’s face before he again dug into his pockets and brought out something else, which he again flung on the table.
His gaze flickering to Eldric as he did, even as Eldric’s already fixed gaze on him grew even hotter, staring at the small tablet he had brought out of the pocket of the coat he wore.
"Evidence that I didn’t kill Lord William!" Fervor said, even as Eldric felt his heartbeat skip a beat, careful enough to control it and not make it too obvious that something was wrong, considering the fact that all the people seated around him were the most powerful werewolves.
But Eldric, who sat at the head of the table, was still considering picking it up when Lady Harriet instantly stretched out her hand to do so.
Playing the video that had already been paused on the screen, only for her eyes to widen even as the loud sounds of growls could be heard as she stared hard at the screen for a couple of minutes.
Magnus, who sat beside her, was also peering into it, and his expression was just as shocked, even as his gaze flickered over to Eldric in alarm before shifting back to the video.
Eldric instantly released a deep but long sigh. He didn’t know what they were watching, but whatever it was, it was clearly not good for him. But regardless, he didn’t seem worried.
He never moved unprepared, and even for this glitch, he had already thoroughly made plans to ensure that the consequences wouldn’t backfire on him.
Harriet looked stunned even after she had passed over the tablet to Grainger, whose frown became even deeper as he focused a hard gaze on Eldric, one that held complete and utter disgust as he also passed it over to Lady Bella, who, like always, sat at the edge and this time around couldn’t help but gasp seconds into watching it, clamping her hand on her mouth in complete and utter shock before she then slowly slid the tablet to Eldric.
The video was still playing, and he could clearly see that in it was after he had bitten William to pieces before he transformed back to his human but still bloody form. Aware of what came before, he simply stretched out his hand to pause the video...throwing the entire room into complete and utter silence.
It was at this time that Fervor again chose to speak. "If you don’t believe the authenticity of the video, you can confirm. I have other copies with me!" he said, leaning into his chair with a slightly bored look on his face, even as Eldric gritted his teeth together, trying to keep a lid over his anger.
It wasn’t the fact that Fervor had evidence that pissed him off. No! It was the fact that in the chaos of everything that happened, he had somehow managed to take a video of him without him being any wiser about it.
Squaring his shoulders straight and lifting his head higher with a cold look in his eye, Eldric opened his mouth to speak, especially towards Magnus, Grainger, and Harriet, who looked like they were about to explode.
Lady Bella simply looked disgusted, a twitch of a smile on his lips as he realized that it was the first time he had seen a clearly aggressive expression on her face. One that looked like she would like nothing but to rip him into pieces and feed his bones to dogs.
"Yes! Yes, I killed William!" Eldric admitted with a long sigh as he shifted his gaze through them, looking at them one after the other.
"I killed him because he deserved it!" he said, his gaze fixed on Fervor, waiting for him to explode, only to be a bit taken aback when he didn’t so much as move a muscle.
Still as cold as before, almost like William’s death had nothing to do with him, and he couldn’t care less.
I can’t read him! Eldric reluctantly admitted to himself, something he clearly didn’t like since being able to read people was one of his greatest strengths.
