Chapter 46: Report!

District J – One of the Vampire Districts

A glass bottle flew through the air, smashing into a man’s face with a sickening crack. He didn’t flinch, even as shards of glass embedded themselves in his skin, leaving fresh, bloodied cuts. He stood motionless, his head slightly bowed, as wine soaked through his clothes, mingling with the coppery scent of blood. His injuries began to heal almost immediately, though not uniformly; some wounds closed swiftly, while others pushed out pieces of glass slowly, leaving red streaks down his face.

He had barely opened his eyes when another bottle was hurled his way, missing him by inches.

"Rexter! You’re useless as a subordinate! To think I would waste blood and time turning you into one of us, only for you to deliver such mediocre results!" Javi’s roar reverberated through the room, shaking the bottles lined along the bar counter.

The lord of District J stood tall, his blazing red eyes full of fury as he reached for another bottle. This time, instead of throwing it, he poured himself a drink. He lifted the glass to his lips, the liquid swirling ominously thick, before downing it in one gulp.

"How could you allow the spy to get caught? Do you know how many resources I had to use to give you the three spots you asked for?" he demanded, his glare cutting into Rexter like a blade.

Rexter, his face still streaked with blood, finally found his voice. "I’m sorry, Lord Javi. It was something I failed to calculate, and I take full responsibility. I should have been more careful!" His tone was remorseful, his head bowed low.

Javi sneered, his youthful features twisting into a mask of disdain. "You should take a stake to your heart then and die!"

Rexter stiffened but kept his head down. "I still have two more spies. There will be no problems with our plans!" he promised, his voice steady despite the sting of humiliation.

"One of them is Lord Cain’s assistant, right?" Javi asked, his voice calm but his expression cold.

"Yes, Lord Javi. I’ll make sure to—"

"Do not use him yet," Javi interrupted sharply. "We can’t afford to lose him. We’ll use him at the most important part of our plans when we attack the mansion and steal the supplies, just like before."

Rexter nodded quickly as Javi’s voice turned mocking. "What’s a district if the people starve and the lord is too busy being a mindless beast to protect it?" freёnovelkiss.com

"Yes, my—"

"SHUT UP!" Javi’s anger flared again, silencing Rexter mid-sentence.

Javi reached for another glass, pouring himself a fresh drink before continuing. "For the other one, make sure to make him befriend the servant. We need to keep him in line. I don’t care if you have to kill his entire family to do it!"

A cold glint sparked in Javi’s red eyes, and Rexter hurriedly nodded, his body rigid with fear. "Luckily, I’ve already ordered the spy to do just that. He’ll befriend the Lord’s servant and also keep an eye on him. He’s the best among the three. He looks harmless, but he’s a trained assassin. He’ll be very useful!"

Javi’s hand shot out, grabbing a glass bottle and hurling it into Rexter’s face without hesitation. This time, Rexter barely managed to close his eyes before the shards struck him. Pain flared as the glass dug into his skin, but he didn’t so much as flinch.

"If you fail me again, then you’re useless to me, Rexter. I’ll replace you rather than keep dealing with you!" Javi warned, his voice cold and measured as he picked up another glass, filled it, and took a long sip.

"How many weeks are left until our preparations are ready?" Javi asked, his gaze fixed on the thick liquid swirling in his glass.

"We should be ready to attack by the beginning of next week," Rexter answered quickly. "It has also been confirmed that Cain has been taking the medicine. The effects are much worse now. For at least four hours in the middle of the night, his howls can be intermittently heard!"

"You’re sure?"

"Yes, my lord," Rexter affirmed.

Javi’s lips curved into a sharp smile, his eyes gleaming with malevolence. "Lord Eldric also mentioned that Cain’s condition is the same. Once we succeed, the Council of Werewolves will have no choice but to remove him as district lord. Then I’ll be able to freely deal with Vazer!"

Rexter hesitated before speaking, his voice cautious. "But Lord Javi, there’s no evidence that Lord Vazer is working with Lord Cain..."

Javi’s eyes narrowed dangerously, and Rexter froze under his withering gaze.

"Just because there’s no proof doesn’t mean we can let the possibility linger," Javi said coldly. "Considering their districts are the closest to each other, it’s too risky. With how strong his beast is rumored to be, the faster we can eliminate him from a position of power, the better. Once that is done, we’ll find a proper way to either control him or kill him!"

Javi’s tone softened slightly, but his words were no less chilling. "Just because we’re working with Eldric now doesn’t mean we’ll continue to do so. I’m going to become King of all Reds, but also Lord of the Werewolves. Eldric is just a means to an end."

Rexter dropped to his knees, his head pressed low to the ground. "Yes, my lord! I’ll keep it in mind!"

Javi’s gaze lingered on him for a moment before shifting, his expression darkening. "What about that witch? Do we know her whereabouts yet?"

Rexter swallowed hard, shaking his head. "She’s the most powerful, my lord. The second we find a trace of her, she immediately disappears after killing about a dozen of us. She’s also the cruelest I’ve ever seen!" His voice trembled slightly, memories of the carnage the witch left in her wake flashing through his mind.

"She’s the cruelest?" Javi scoffed. "Of course! What else would you expect from a witch crazy enough to attack the Bavellis and drain their werewolf blood simply to concoct a potion that would allow her to live forever? Worst part was that she almost succeeded and would have if Cain hadn’t escaped and survived!"

Javi sighed, pouring himself more of the thick red liquid from a bottle before placing it back in the ice freezer.

"Get out," he snapped suddenly, waving a dismissive hand. "And bring me a fresh human! This blood smells rancid!"

Rexter didn’t argue, even though he knew the bottle had been drawn fresh from a body only hours ago. Bowing deeply, he turned to leave, his footsteps quick and silent.

The moment the door shut behind him, Rexter clenched his fists tightly. His loyalty to Javi remained unwavering, even as the injuries he had slowly healed. Javi had saved his life once and turned him into a higher being; Rexter was determined to serve him faithfully—until the end of his immortal soul.
