Mated to the Mad Lord-Chapter 53: The letter
Chapter 53: The letter
Violet knew the exact moment he entered the room as she pretended to be fast asleep on the bed.
The faint smell of blood trailing after him as he slowly made his way to the bathroom even as she tightly shut her eyes and faced the wall.
’Please! Don’t touch me!’ she internally begged, hoping that Cain would immediately go to sleep instead of demanding for them to continue from where they stopped.
When she had been seconds away from kissing him, the thought made heat wash over her face as she dug her head into the sheets even more.
Her thoughts were still whirling around when she heard the sound of the bathroom door being opened.
Cain’s footsteps echoed as he stepped out, her mind already imagining his body as he dried himself, even without her turning her face to look at him.
’Violet, what kind of person have you become?’ she asked herself, wondering why, when it came to Cain, his body was something that she couldn’t stop thinking about.
She heard him step closer, but still, she froze, pretending to be fast asleep even as she felt his weight on the bed as he moved closer to her.
Her heart pounded and thumped louder the closer he moved, her eyes shut tightly. She couldn’t see him, but she could have sworn he was staring directly at her face.
Still, Violet was completely still, doing her best to regulate her breathing even when she felt his body inches away from her. His arm snaked around her waist and pulled her right into his chest, which she was surprised to feel was naked against her back.
The temptation to point it out was great, but Violet refused, knowing that it was probably the main reason why Cain hadn’t worn any clothes in the first instance—wanting her to stop pretending to be asleep.
Regardless, she continued to face the wall, even as her heart raced and sweat pooled in her palms as she laid them by the side of her head.
Seconds slowly ticked by, and she was simply waiting for when Cain would fall asleep so she could pull herself away from him when she suddenly heard him speak.
"Go to sleep! I can hear your heart racing in the walls of your chest! I can always touch you tomorrow!"
His words were shocking, but it was the weakness she could hear in his voice that made her turn around to try and look at him, only for Cain’s arm around her to tighten even more, not allowing her to move as he spoke again.
"Go to sleep!" in a tone that sounded more like an order even as Violet angrily muttered under her breath, glaring at the walls and his arm around her waist.
"I’m a man! How can I go to sleep like this?" for him to hear, not sure that any woman would have been able to do the same.
Surprisingly, Violet finally slept off, waking up to the same sight she was used to of a ruined room, which seemed to have been destroyed by a mad beast.
The surprising part was that Cain had not only taken his bath, but he was already all dressed up even as Violet scrambled off the bed.
Ravon arrived not long after with servants. Together, they changed rooms, and breakfast was served.
Violet was even more surprised by Cain’s cold disposition to her as he simply moved to sit by his desk, attending to the papers on his table.
His skin was a bit paler than before, and Violet wasn’t sure she could ask him what happened after he left with the guards, as she kept on sneaking glances at him until Cain lifted up his gaze to look at her.
"You can head to the library or do whatever you want! As long as you know what you should and shouldn’t do!" he told her, a light warning embedded in his tone as he said it, even as Violet bowed deeply to show that she understood what he meant.
No longer concerned for his sake, she headed out the door. It was already enough that she was not doing useless assignments, yet she thought that she had the right to be concerned about his welfare.
’I’m a servant that’s basically a slave! I have no right to ask questions! Even if he dies, it means nothing to me!’ she thought, even as she felt a painful stab in her heart simply from the thought of it.
Regardless, Violet walked out of his room and headed down the stairs, heading towards the library. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
Compared to before, she wasn’t as scared that Cain would kill her, and as long as she avoided Ravon, she had no doubt that she would be fine.
There was a renewed spring in her step as she looked around the mansion and took in the beauty of her new environment.
’I just have to live here for a year, and I’ll be able to leave. Father’s debts would be cleared, and I’ll have a huge sum of money!’ she thought to herself as she slowly walked down a corridor, past servants going about their daily jobs, when one of them suddenly collided with her.
Violet immediately apologized, about to check that they were okay when she saw the individual scurry off without making eye contact after stuffing a piece of paper in her hands.
The entire thing was so fast that Violet wouldn’t have been able to identify who the servant was if she was asked.
Scrambling to her feet, she slowly opened the piece of paper only to see meticulous handwriting with words that made her stomach lurch in anger and despair.
"I expect the first report in a couple of days! I hear that you’ve been going to the library a lot! Pick the last book on the bottom shelf of the romance section and stuff it in. Also! Keep in mind that I expect you to become a worker as soon as possible! Your siblings life depends on it!" were the words written in the piece of paper Violet read, reading it twice more as she continued walking, tearing every part of it into pieces and tossing each piece into different waste bins she came across.
’I was wrong! Cain and Ravon were dangerous to my life as a spy, but Ravon was the one who could hurt her family and above all, someone she didn’t think she could ever get rid of.’
