Chapter 55: Cain’s Rescue?

Desperation clawed at her as she tried to shield herself, curling into a ball to protect her arms and face. But Ravon’s fury was unchecked. The whip cracked down again, this time against her arms, the coarse leather biting into tender flesh.

"Remove your hands!" Ravon roared, his voice a thunderous command.

"I—I can’t! Please, stop!" Violet sobbed, trying to cover herself even tighter. But her pleas fell on deaf ears. The whip lashed her again, her screams tearing through the corridor, raw and filled with despair.

Pain became her world, drowning out everything else. The stinging, burning sensations layered on one another, until she could hardly tell where one lash ended and the next began. Her body trembled uncontrollably, her tears soaking into the floor beneath her.

And then, abruptly, it stopped.

The echo of the last lash seemed to linger in the air as Violet trembled, her body wracked with sobs. She didn’t dare move, her arms clutching her head protectively, waiting for another strike to fall. But instead, she heard Ravon’s heavy boots retreat, the oppressive sound of his anger giving way to an eerie silence.

Still, she couldn’t bring herself to look up, the tears streaming down her cheeks mixing with the sweat on her face. Her ears rang, but through the haze of pain, she sensed something had shifted. freewebnσvel.cѳm

It was the sudden stillness that struck her next. The corridor, previously filled with the murmurs of other servants, had fallen deathly silent. The air itself seemed to grow heavier, pressing down on everyone present.

Her breathing hitched as she noticed the peculiar tension in the air. It wasn’t until she became aware of the faint gasps and shuffling around her that realization struck.

Someone was behind her.

There was only one person in the entire mansion capable of silencing an entire room and commanding such terror with their mere presence.

Cain.

The acrid scent of her own blood filled Violet’s senses, the gashes from Ravon’s whip burning like fire along her trembling body. She knelt on the cold, unforgiving ground, her breaths ragged, tears streaming freely as she tried desperately to push herself backward, away from the cruel figure looming over her.

Her frantic retreat ended abruptly as she turned and froze—face-to-face with Cain.

He stood there, imposing as ever, his expression carved in stone but with eyes that blazed like a wildfire barely contained. His gaze swept over them all—Ravon, Nathan, the scuttling servants who dared not meet his eyes, and finally her. Violet felt a primal urge to shrink away, yet her limbs locked, trembling as she heard his voice.

"What happened here?" he demanded, his tone cold and crackling with fury.

Ravon flinched but stepped forward to speak, his usual arrogance nowhere to be found under the weight of Cain’s searing gaze. But before he could utter a single word, Cain cut him off with a voice as sharp as a blade.

"Did I give you permission to touch my servant?"

The words carried a sinister undercurrent, each syllable laced with malice. Cain moved closer, his towering frame casting a shadow over Ravon, who instinctively backed away. The cold gleam in Cain’s golden-brown eyes was enough to root him to the spot.

"Lord Cain, I apo—" Ravon’s attempt at groveling was cut short as Cain’s fist shot forward, slamming into his chest He was hurled through the air like a ragdoll, the sickening crunch of bone echoing through the hall as he collided with the wall.

A wet cough broke the silence, blood dripping from Ravon’s lips as he crumpled to the floor in a heap, his internal organs clearly damaged even as he slowly scrambled to his feet.

The room plunged into a tense, suffocating silence, broken only by the faint whimpers of the other servants who scrambled to escape Cain’s wrath.

Cain’s eyes burned brighter as he turned to Nathan, who knelt by Violet, his entire body trembling. His hand reached for hers, seeking solace in the chaos, but she slapped it away the instant she felt Cain’s attention shift towards them.

Nathan’s expression darkened with anger, but he masked it well, bowing his head low in submission. Yet, Cain wasn’t fooled—he never was.

Cain’s lips curled into something resembling a snarl as he advanced on Nathan. "Lo-Lord Cain!" Nathan stammered, his voice cracking under the weight of his fear.

Before another word could leave his lips, Cain’s hand shot out, seizing Nathan by the throat. With terrifying ease, he lifted him off the ground, squeezing until Nathan’s face turned a sickening shade of purple.

Violet’s heart plummeted as she watched Nathan claw weakly at Cain’s iron grip, his wide, tear-filled eyes pleading for mercy.

"Please, don’t hurt him!" Violet’s voice was barely above a whisper, trembling as she forced the words out. She knew the rumors about her being his pet would only grow worse, but she couldn’t let Cain go any further. "He didn’t do anything wrong!" Ravon had been the one to misunderstand and hurt her, Nathan was clearly innocent.

Cain’s eyes shifted to her, sharp and piercing, but his grip on Nathan remained unyielding.

"You’re an idiot," Cain spat, his disdain cutting deeper than any whip. Violet flinched but pressed on, her voice cracking as she begged again.

"Please! He’s innocent!"

For a moment, there was silence. Then, with a casual flick of his wrist, Cain released Nathan, letting him crash to the ground in a heap.

Nathan gasped and choked, red marks stark against his pale skin, his chest heaving as he clawed at the floor for air. Relief flooded Violet, but it was short-lived.

Without warning, Cain lifted his boot and stomped down hard on Nathan’s arm.

The sickening crunch of bone breaking was drowned out by Nathan’s agonized scream. Violet’s hands flew to her mouth, her entire body shaking as she watched the young man writhe in pain, tears streaming down his face.

Cain’s gaze shifted to Violet, his eyes sweeping over her like a predator sizing up its prey. "Get up. Follow me."

His command was cold, absolute, and left no room for argument. Without sparing a glance at the others, he turned and began walking away.

Violet hesitated, her heart breaking as Nathan’s wails echoed behind her. She clutched at her chest, tears blurring her vision as she struggled to reconcile the Lord, she thought she knew with the monster she now saw.

"Now!" Cain’s voice snapped her out of her thoughts like a whip.

Her mind raced, filled with questions and fears. How had everything spiraled out of control so quickly? Will he order Nathan killed? She had no idea whether or not Cain would take out his anger on her or what he would do next. Especially since getting killed was just as bad as her getting fired.
