Chapter 58: Aftermath

Violet sat on the bed as she heard the sound of the shower pouring the second after Cain slammed the door shut. Her hands fiddled with the hem of her shirt as she wondered what was going through his head, especially after the last thing he said.

It felt nice! But that will never happen again! she swore to herself, realizing that accepting Cain’s advances, no matter how small, would only get her in trouble.

I’m just one servant! He can get himself ten lovers if he wants! The thought that anyone would be able to say no to him was unthinkable, as she continued to silently sit, waiting for him to step out.

Her mind went over what she should say the second he did and was unable to think of something good enough. Her eyes wandered over the entire room, settling on the table he had pushed her over and kissed her. Her cheeks immediately burned red.

Her body heated up simply from the memory of it as she lifted up both hands and slammed herself on the cheeks twice. Get it together, Violet! Get it together!

She had only just dropped her hands when the door of the bathroom was suddenly swung open with Cain stepping out of it. His body had been dried, and even as he rubbed his hair with a towel, he was half-dressed with a pair of black pants and a white shirt that was only buttoned halfway!

Violet couldn’t help but stare a bit longer at him, still in awe no matter how many times she had seen his body. It even felt worse now that she had touched it and felt just how hard and warm it got under her fingers.

But Cain had just stepped out and closed the door behind him as he gently rubbed his hair dry. He immediately turned his gaze toward his study table, not sparing Violet a simple glance.

For the first few minutes, Violet tried not to allow it to get to her as she got off the bed and walked toward him to stand behind him where she usually did when she wasn’t working.

Surprised to see him pick up reports on his table one after the other as he seriously read them, Maybe this isn’t such a bad thing! she thought to herself as her racing heart slowly began to calm after a few hours of complete silence of her not doing anything but standing there.

Her eyes focused intently on the back of his head, even as she watched him continue to silently work. At first, she convinced herself that it didn’t bother her, but a few hours later, she realized it did.

He was the first person I ever kissed, and now he’s ignoring me and pretending that I’m air! Violet couldn’t help but be slightly pissed off.

What do you want, Violet? For him to ignore you or give you his attention? Even as she turned her gaze to the wall, staring at it, she suddenly heard Cain speak.

"You don’t have to stand behind me for hours, you know! You can eat and do whatever you want!"

"What about the assignments?" she immediately asked, turning to look at him, slightly annoyed that he continued to focus intently on the pages in front of him again, speaking to her without actually sparing her a glance.

"Sure! You can continue to do them if that’s what you want!" he responded, and Violet nodded her head even as the frown on her face grew.

Was the kiss that terrible? He wanted more; it couldn’t have been that bad! Did he just want to fuck me or... Getting angry at herself at the thoughts that kept on spiraling around in her head, she walked away from Cain and went straight to sit on the bed, hoping that by distancing herself from him, her thoughts would also take a hint.

But it only got worse since now she could see the entirety of his face as he focused on whatever work he was doing.

He’s really good-looking! Compared to him, I’m definitely plain! Violet thought to herself, even as she continued frowning. It doesn’t matter! No matter what happens, I’d never kiss him again! she swore to herself, even as she tightened her fists together over her lap and swore over and over again to herself, determined to see it through till the end.

Hours passed quickly. Cain continued to sit at his desk, even eating there when food arrived, while Violet had also eaten, doing her best to focus all her attention on the door and the report she had to write for Rexter, which made her even more annoyed than before the second she remembered it.

But she was just about to dive deeper into how she could escape from it all when she heard Cain suddenly speak to her. "Viole! Come!" he said.

Violet immediately jumped to her feet to move closer to him, unaware of how eagerly she did it, as she assumed that she was only following his orders.

It was only when she had gotten in front of the table and stood in front of it that she saw him beckon her closer, which made her eyes immediately wary, even as she did as he asked.

"You seem a little annoyed! Is it because I haven’t looked at you?" he asked, getting to his feet, even as Violet stood still, shaking her head vigorously to refute it.

"...Why—why would I be angry about that?" she asked in a slight stutter, even as she watched Cain lean closer with a smile at the edge of his lips as he caught the back of her head and pulled her closer to plant a kiss on her lips.

One that left her so stupefied she wasn’t able to respond or even move a few seconds after it happened.

"I’m ignoring you because if I don’t, we would both be returning to that bed!" he whispered in her ear, nuzzling his face into her neck in a way that sent shivers down Violet’s spine. She raised her hand to push him off, only to feel him back away before she could.

"You should go get the medicine! When you come back, we’ll go to see!" he told her, letting her go. Violet nodded her head before heading straight for the door, unable to think of what to say to Cain, even as she walked out.

I’m going to sleep beside him! she murmured to herself the second she stepped out, realizing that, unlike before, the subtleties of their relationship had changed, and there was nothing she could do about it.
