Chapter 60: Slapped

Violet had just walked away when Nathan’s arm, which had been bandaged tightly around his shoulder, his hand which had been limp by his chest, suddenly twitched as he flexed it.

Thankfully! I brought a couple of potions with me! he thought to himself, knowing that without them, his arm would have been completely useless—something he wouldn’t have been able to use again if he hadn’t immediately healed it.

His gaze moved to the book on the last shelf, even as a nasty smirk crept onto his face. He stared at the book, confident that Violet had just opened it and picked the envelope he had put there.

He was aware that she had gotten the letter to send her report, but the envelope was one that he had personally placed there and written, considering the fact that the mission had been meant for him.

If she gets caught, then Cain is bound to kill her, no matter how close they might be getting! he muttered under his breath, thinking about how he had gotten wounded simply because of a useless man with witch’s blood.

"Viole! I’ll kill you myself if I could get away with it!" he snarled, infuriated by how somehow he kept getting in his way and spoiling his plans. Things would be much better for him without him around.

This time around, you won’t survive! he mumbled to himself as he made sure to let his arm become limp, even as he headed straight for the library door and walked out of it.

He headed back to his room instead of the kitchen where he worked. Why should I do labor if someone else can take care of it!

Violet was still heavily shaken by the finger in her hands, which she quickly discarded as fast as she could in the first dustbin she came across. The thought of whom the finger belonged to made sweat drench her entire back, even as she made her way to Ravon’s office.

The thought of coming face-to-face with Ravon was enough to replace most of her anxiety with fear of him as she stood in front of the door and knocked, gingerly walking in the second she was allowed to enter.

Ravon was by himself, but the expression on his face was grim. He looked immaculate, with no traces of having been injured, but the fire in his eyes said enough when he fixed his gaze on Violet, who immediately lowered hers.

"I’m here to collect Lord Cain’s medicine!" Violet said, but she had just spoken when she heard Ravon bark at her, "DO I LOOK STUPID TO YOU?!" in a tone so fierce that she immediately flinched back, lowering her head even more. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

Scared of what he might do, considering what he had previously done to her, she was also confident that he wouldn’t dare to do it again, though she made sure not to show it, going as far as to let her hands tremble in fear.

"You did it on purpose, didn’t you?" he asked, his voice much lower yet sounding far more dangerous than before as he continued to speak.

"Of all places, you could be, you caused such a commotion in front of my office and made me come to such a drastic conclusion!" Anger and fury wafted off him in waves as he struggled to keep his voice calm, even as he slammed his hand against the table.

"ANSWER ME!" he screamed at her, and this time, Violet indeed felt scared as his voice bounced around the room they were in. Ravon got to his feet, sliding the chair he sat on behind him and closing the distance between them until he was standing about two feet away from Violet.

"What! You think because he’s fucking you that you’re special?" he sneered, grabbing Violet’s jaw as he raised her head until she had no choice but to meet his eyes.

"Lord Ravon—!" Violet began to speak, only to be cut off as she felt a heavy palm slap her across the face, painful enough to send her to the ground. Her entire head throbbed in pain as her eyes lost focus and she felt dizzy.

"Do you know how many people he has been with? The fact that you’re a man means his interest in you is even more temporary!" Ravon said, closing the distance between them again, even as Violet’s entire body trembled, not daring to get up from the floor.

"Honestly! It would have been a different case if you were a woman. I would have immediately ordered you killed! You can’t bear a child, so to think that you can—"

"Lord Ravon! I-I would never do such a thing!" Violet began to speak, with a hint of desperation in her tone. A dash of fear seeped into her voice. The fact that Ravon could boldly hit her without fear of consequences terrified her.

"I didn’t—" she continued to speak, only to feel another hit against her cheek, one too fast for her to see coming as it hit her squarely in the same spot. Tears filled and streamed down her face as she cried out in pain, even as Ravon went ahead to roll up his sleeves with a proud look on his face.

"Don’t worry! My mistake was hurting you where everyone could see!" he said, even as he stretched out his hand again, just as Violet scrambled back on the floor. Her eyes were blurred, making it impossible to see properly in front of her, only to feel a heavy hand wrap itself around her throat, holding her down and choking her.

In desperation, Violet began to speak, using the only protection she knew would make Ravon think twice about what he was doing before his eyes completely clouded with anger.

"Cain will not—" Her airway was cut off before she could continue, as she felt his grip tighten around her neck. She clawed at him, unable to breathe.

"He will not what?" Ravon asked with a huge grin on his face as he looked down, watching as she choked and clawed at his hands, trying to breathe.

"You think Cain can protect you? Then you’re wrong!" he growled deeply into her face, a sly look on his face as he suddenly eased his hand off her neck. He watched her gasp for breath, tears streaming down her face at the same time.
