That night, Li Zheng lay on his bed, staring wide-eyed at the ceiling. Despite being utterly exhausted, he couldn't fall asleep.

Mirel was sleeping in an eggshell bed. She wanted to snuggle up with Li Zheng but was kicked off the bed by him before she gave up.

Unbeknownst to them, midnight in the Outer City arrived, and Li Zheng's ears were filled with the sound of an electronic voice with an indistinguishable gender.

[Today's random treasure chest draw is underway, please wait...]

"It's here," Li Zheng muttered in his heart.

Even though he had recently realized that there was some purpose behind the Treasure Chest System and had received a warning from it, now that it was time to refresh, it appeared punctually, just like before, to draw the treasure chest, as if nothing had happened.

"Is it because I'm too weak, that the Treasure Chest System doesn't bother with me even if I discover something? Or is the Treasure Chest System actually not sentient, just a plugin like a computer program?"

This question had plagued Li Zheng many times, but he never found an answer, as the Treasure Chest System had never communicated with him.

[Draw successful, treasure chest quality: Diamond, would you like to extract it now?]

"Even the voice prompt is scrupulously exact, word-for-word."

Li Zheng focused his thoughts and set up a Spiritual Barrier in the room. Then he sat up and mentally commanded, "Extract!"

Thud! 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

A Diamond Level Treasure Chest appeared out of thin air and landed on the ground. Mirel, not deeply asleep, crawled out of her eggshell bed, craning her head to sneak a peek at him.

Li Zheng chuckled, "Come over and open it with me."

Mirel was now absolutely trustworthy. Even if she had second thoughts, Li Zheng could control her before any secrets were leaked.

"Okay!"

Mirel leaped off the bed excitedly, hurrying to Li Zheng's side. Her beautiful eyes sparkled as she stared at the radiant Diamond Treasure Chest, "I used to be afraid you'd notice and never dared to take a good look. So this is where you get all those good things every day?"

"Yes, it's the treasure chest," Li Zheng said, "Today's luck isn't great, just drew a Diamond Level Treasure Chest. It's probably just another piece of stone fragment."

The treasure chests he'd opened in the past few days, except for the Super Divine Level ones, always seemed to be like that, and Li Zheng had already given up hope on anything below Super Divine Level.

"Uh..." Mirel was eager to try, "Can I play with opening this chest?"

Li Zheng extended his hand, "Go ahead, give it a try!"

He wasn't sure if anyone other than himself could open the treasure chests he drew, so it was a good opportunity to let Mirel try it.

"Okay!" Mirel placed her hand in Li Zheng's palm, holding onto it.

Li Zheng was taken aback. Mirel's hand was soft and boneless, so tender, like cotton candy, making you want to squeeze it a few times.

He asked, "Didn't you want to open the treasure chest?"

"Yeah," Mirel blinked her eyes, "You hold my hand while opening it, so I can feel a bit involved."

"You should open it yourself," Li Zheng laughed and shook his head, "I've got some ideas I want to test."

Mirel hesitated for a few seconds, "So I should open it myself?"

"Go ahead," Li Zheng released her hand and watched from the side.

Mirel rubbed her hands together, full of excitement, "I've been wanting to try this for a long time but never had the chance... Huh?"

She placed her hands on the treasure chest, but it felt like a phantom without substance, her hands passing right through it.

Unwilling to give up, Mirel tried several times, her hands continuing to pass through the chest without grasping anything.

"Why is it like this!?" Mirel exclaimed angrily. It wasn't every day you got to quell your curiosity by opening a treasure chest, only to find she couldn't even touch it!

Li Zheng let out a breath, "I suppose only I can open it."

Saying this, he grabbed Mirel again, "Let's test if we can open it together."

"Okay." Mirel followed Li Zheng, both reaching out towards the treasure chest. This time, instead of passing through, they actually touched the treasure chest's texture, cool and hard.

"I touched it! I touched it!" Mirel shouted excitedly.

Li Zheng felt a twinge of curiosity. He switched his thoughts to not wanting to open the treasure chest, and their hands, like Mirel's solo attempt before, phased through into the chest again.

"Huh? Why did it disappear again?" Mirel wondered, "Is it you controlling this?"

"I just found out that as long as I don't allow it, no one else can open the treasure chest even if they're holding my hand," Li Zheng was equally surprised, realizing this phenomenon defied explanation by science...

He suddenly remembered that the system's existence couldn't be explained by science in the first place, let alone the treasure chests appearing out of thin air.

Li Zheng was curious if, by not removing their hands from the "phantom" treasure chest, they could make it materialize.

He tried, but it was impossible. As long as his hand was inside, the treasure chest remained in "phantom" mode.

After numerous tests and validations, Li Zheng realized that even if he disclosed the existence of the Treasure Chest System, without his consent, no one would be able to get anything from it.

Finally withdrawing their hands, he opened the day's treasure chest with Mirel by his side.

They both peeked inside simultaneously. Li Zheng was surprised to find that today's chest didn't contain a Wishing Stone Fragment but a bottle of faintly radiant liquid, like some kind of potion.

He reached inside and took it out, and the treasure chest disappeared immediately. Mirel stared at the spot where the chest vanished for a long time, clicking her tongue in admiration, "This thing is incredibly secure. Only you can touch it, and it disappears as soon as you take the contents, so even if someone wanted to steal it, they couldn't."
