Chapter 255: Chapter 188: The First Kiss in the Hospital Room_2
Chen Cheng waved his hand, and Chen Donghai quickly walked away.
After he left, Chen Cheng rested his forehead on the window glass, his gaze never leaving the figure of Jin Baogen on the hospital bed.
He knew very well that with Jin Baogen’s current assets and capabilities, he needn’t have fulfilled the last three promises.
He did it still, for his own sake.
Chen Cheng rolled his throat, slowly slid down to the floor, and took a few deep breaths before his mood slightly stabilized.
Chen Donghai, who had brought over a coat, was also startled by Chen Cheng’s state.
He knew that Chen Cheng needed company at this moment. Silently, he placed the clothes aside and left quietly.
"Sir? Sir?"
After a while, a young nurse wearing a mask approached Chen Cheng and asked in a bending posture, "Are you feeling unwell anywhere?"
"No."
"Then, if there’s no registration for a bedside companion, please..."
Chen Cheng did not look up, "Okay, I’ll leave soon."
Just as he was getting up, a pair of plastic slippers appeared in front of him.
Slender toes quietly rested inside them, unadorned with any nail polish, yet glaringly white.
Chen Cheng followed the petite feet upward and saw a familiar face in front of him.
"Brother Cheng." Liu Zhiying’s brows were slightly furrowed; this was the first time she had seen Chen Cheng in such a state.
Chen Cheng stood up, "How come you are here?"
Sitting in a wheelchair, Liu Zhiying smiled, "I knew you were here, so I came."
Chen Cheng looked at the coat nearby and knew that Chen Donghai had called her.
He bent over to pick it up, placed the coat in Liu Zhiying’s lap, and pushed her, "You’re not even well, why did you come?"
Liu Zhiying turned back to look at Chen Cheng, "Brother Cheng, you coming so late, is it..."
Chen Cheng did not tell her, only replied, "Visiting an elder."
Liu Zhiying did not pursue further, she knew that if Chen Cheng didn’t want to speak, there must be a reason.
"Let’s go, I’ll take you back to your room." Chen Cheng pushed the wheelchair towards the outside of the ICU.
Back in the room, Chen Cheng helped her onto the bed.
"Rest well, I’ll bring you the book tomorrow," Chen Cheng said as he turned to leave.
But Liu Zhiying caught his arm, "Brother Cheng, can you stay and talk with me?"
Chen Cheng paused, then turned around.
He saw concern in Liu Zhiying’s eyes.
"I’m fine, you don’t need to worry about me," Chen Cheng tried to speak in a light tone, patting the back of Liu Zhiying’s hand.
"Brother Cheng, don’t lie to me, I know you are not feeling well inside."
Chen Cheng looked at Liu Zhiying, feeling a mix of emotions.
Right now, he needed an emotional outlet. He couldn’t talk about Jin Baogen’s matters with those who knew him, so Liu Zhiying was the best choice.
"Alright." Chen Cheng pulled up a chair, sat beside the bed, "What would you like to talk about?"
Liu Zhiying, being considerate, started, "Brother Cheng, about the elder you met, is he... okay?"
Chen Cheng was silent for a moment before slowly saying, "Not very well, not very hopeful."
He didn’t elaborate, but Liu Zhiying already understood.
Liu Zhiying looked at the dejection on Chen Cheng’s face and reversed roles, stroking the back of his hand,
"Brother Cheng, don’t be too sad. Good people have their own peace; your elder will surely get better."
She knew these were merely comforting words, but at that moment, that was all she could offer.
Chen Cheng forced a smile, "Yeah, hopefully."
"That elder, he must be a very good person, right?"
Liu Zhiying asked, wanting to know more about Chen Cheng’s matters and to let him know she was willing to listen to his thoughts.
"Yes. He helped me a lot."
Chen Cheng laughed self-deprecatingly, "Without him, I couldn’t have achieved so much in such a short time."
"You and he must have shared many stories, right?"
Liu Zhiying continued, hoping to learn more about the relationship between Chen Cheng and this elder, and hopefully, to make Chen Cheng feel a bit better.
Chen Cheng nodded, sinking into his memories.
But he was unable to start talking.
Seeing this, Liu Zhiying did not ask further but just gazed affectionately at the man in front of her.
"Brother Cheng," she struggled to move to one side of the bed, "do you want to lie down here for a while?"
"You’ve also been tired all day, rest a bit first, then you’ll have the strength to face tomorrow," Liu Zhiya added.
Listening to Liu Zhiying’s words, a warm current surged in Chen Cheng’s heart.
He was indeed tired, not physically, but emotionally.
Jin Baogen’s matters weighed on him like a giant rock, suffocating him.
"I’m fine."
Chen Cheng forced a smile and said, "You should rest early. I’ll leave after you fall asleep."
"Brother Cheng, come up here, I... I want to hug you," Liu Zhiying’s voice was soft.
Chen Cheng knew Liu Zhiying was worried about him, worried that he might be overthinking alone, worried that he might not withstand such a blow, so she chose this method of comfort.
Saying this, Liu Zhiya moved a bit more inside, leaving as much space as possible for Chen Cheng.
Chen Cheng did not refuse, he slowly got up on the bed, lying down steadily.
The room was very quiet, only the sound of their breathing and the chirping of cicadas from outside the window could be heard.
The smell of disinfectant filled the nostrils, and next to Chen Cheng was her, clothed in hospital attire.
Although Liu Zhiying and Liu Zhiya looked almost exactly the same, their personalities were vastly different.
Liu Zhiya was enthusiastic and unrestrained, while Liu Zhiying was reserved and discreet.
Even just lying beside her, she was already a bit nervous.
