Chapter 4640: Angry

She gently brushed the mud from her youngest son’s clothes, murmuring soothing words without so much as a glance at Hao’er and the others. With her little boy safely in her arms, she turned to Du Fan and the approaching group. “I am truly sorry, but I must take my leave first. Please feel free to continue exploring. I need to take my son home to change; he unfortunately fell and soiled his clothes.”

Seeing her concern, Du Fan offered a kind smile. “Madam, please don’t worry about us! We will happily wander around on our own.” As he watched her depart with her little son, Du Fan’s gaze lingered on Hao’er, Muchen, and Muyue, though he offered no words. He couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for them.

“Yue’er, would you like to change your dress?” Du Fan asked softly, his eyes resting on the little girl.

“No, Big Brother helped me clean it~” Yue’er replied in her clear voice. “I still want to play. If I change, I’ll just get dirty again.” She then looked at Hao’er, who was staring at the ground, and at Muchen, who was silently pursing his lips.

After a moment’s thought, Yue’er offered an explanation. “Uncle Du Fan, we didn’t bully Big Brother’s little brother. He pushed me first, so my brother pushed him back. We didn’t hit him!” Her soft voice carried a hint of anxiety, as if she feared they wouldn’t believe her. Hearing this earnest explanation, the masked man standing nearby allowed the corners of his lips to curl into a faint smile.

Being cultivators, they had all been aware of the commotion, even from across the flower bed, and understood the situation.

Moreover, despite their youthful appearances, Hao’er, Muchen, and Muyue had already faced numerous dangers and hardships, including being lost on their own. This minor palace squabble was insignificant in comparison to their past experiences.

In truth, if a real confrontation had occurred, not only Muchen but even Yue’er could likely have defeated the spoiled little boy with ease.

“We know, don’t worry!” Du Fan reassured them gently. “It’s alright, the Black Tortoise Mistress won’t blame you.” In reality, they all sensed that despite her outward composure, the Black Tortoise Mistress must have been upset, otherwise she wouldn’t have immediately embraced her youngest son and left without a single word to Hao’er.

With this thought in mind, Du Fan, Leng Hua, and Leng Shuang exchanged knowing glances and looked at Hao’er, whose eyes remained downcast. Seeing his quiet dejection, they felt a pang of sympathy. Leng Hua stepped forward, gently ruffled Hao’er’s hair, and said, “Hao’er, you are familiar with this place. How about you show us around?”

Hearing this, Hao’er lifted his head, glanced at them, and nodded. “Mm, alright.”

After exploring more of the palace grounds, they returned to the courtyard to rest. Following a light meal together, Hao’er, who had his own courtyard within the palace, did not stay with Muchen and Muyue but returned to his own residence.

Leng Shuang helped Muyue take a bath and change into fresh clothes before joining the others in the courtyard. She noticed that her mother had not yet returned, but everyone else, except her big brother, was sitting and enjoying tea.

She ran over to the table and was about to climb onto a stool when she was gently lifted and placed firmly on the seat by someone beside her. She turned her head and offered a sweet smile. “Thank you, Uncle.”

The masked man glanced at her and corrected softly, “It’s Master.”

“Hehe.” Yue’er smiled sweetly but didn’t repeat the title. Instead, she turned her attention to Du Fan. “Uncle Du Fan, is my big brother unhappy? I noticed he wasn’t talking much just now. Did my brother push down my Big Brother’s younger brother, and that’s why he’s angry?”
