Mistakenly Yours: Contract Marriage With The Billionaire-Chapter 128: Poisoned my grandfather
"Mathias, why have you called me?" Luca asked, annoyed that he was being interrupted by someone he clearly disliked.
"I heard you were injured. I’ve been contemplating whether to call you or not when my inner voice said I should," Mathias replied, attempting a cordial tone.
"Drop all this flattery and give me the real reason why you called me," Luca said, his hand tightening on the steering wheel of his car as he drove towards the office.
"I would like to see Sara," Mathias stated simply.
"Are you out of your mind?" Luca shot back immediately, incredulously.
"No, I am perfectly sane."
"Mathias, cut the nonsense and say what exactly you want," Luca’s tone turned stern and threatening.
"I have to tell her something," Mathias replied, maintaining his insistence. "And if you refuse me to see her, you’ll miss an important piece of information that involves her. I’ll be coming to your home in the evening. Take care, okay?"
Luca gazed at his phone and saw Mathias had hung up. "I won’t let you meet her," he muttered darkly, putting the phone on the passenger seat next to him.
He drove straight to his company. Entering the rotating glass doors, he went toward the VIP elevator, and the receptionists at the desk greeted him respectfully. But he ignored them, a usual, dismissive trait of his. Pressing the top floor’s button, he leaned against the wall while tucking his hands into the pockets of his grey trousers.
The moment the doors opened, he straightened and heard a gasp.
"Luca! What are you doing here?" Sara questioned, who was just about to enter the elevator with a file tucked under her arm.
"I told you I would miss you," Luca replied, pulling her into the lift. "Which floor?"
"Wait, you were supposed to rest," Sara stated, confused by his unexpected presence and injured arm.
"Which floor, love?" Luca demanded again, his tone urgent.
"The 10th," Sara answered automatically. He pressed the correct button on the panel, and the doors closed, isolating them.
Before Sara could ask him another question, he hungrily began kissing her. His hand moved possessively to the back of her head while the other one found her thigh. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
She moved back slightly, unable to process his sudden, passionate reaction, yet keeping the pace of the kiss. She felt his tongue teasing her lips, seeking entrance to her mouth. Involuntarily, her lips parted, and their tongues intertwined. She eventually tapped lightly on his shoulder, signaling for him to stop for air.
Luca reluctantly pulled away, and they both panted for air in the confined space.
"What has gotten into you?" she muttered, staring at him with a confused gaze. She turned to exit, as the 10th floor was approaching, when Luca suddenly pressed the stop button, bringing the elevator to a jarring halt between floors.
"Luca!?" She was about to press the stop button to resume movement, but he swiftly grasped her hand and pinned it against the cold metal wall of the elevator.
"Sara, didn’t you miss me?" Luca whispered, his thumb tracing over her cheek, then moving lightly over her lips.
"I did. But there’s work too. Now, will you let me go?" Sara replied, arching her brow teasingly.
Luca kissed her cheek, then down her jawline, and whispered in her ear, "I’ll wait for you in the office." He re-pressed the stop button, and the elevator immediately resumed motion. The doors soon opened at the 10th floor. Taking a step back from Sara, he motioned with his hand for her to exit.
Sara smiled, a slight flush on her cheeks, and left.
However, Luca changed his mind right away. He waited in the stationary elevator. Ten minutes passed, and she finally returned, walking back into the elevator compartment.
"Why didn’t you go?" Sara questioned, unable to believe he had waited for her. She immediately pressed the top floor’s button on the panel.
"I thought to wait for you," Luca replied simply, holding her hand. She smiled gratefully, and they waited for the elevator to reach their destination. Finally, stepping out of it, they both went directly to his large spacious office.
Fabio was initially surprised seeing Luca in the office, especially with his injured arm, but decided to greet him later, not wanting to interrupt the boss’s unexpected arrival.
"You don’t listen at all. I strictly told you to rest," Sara said, shaking her head gently as she placed the file on his massive mahogany desk. Before she could turn around fully, she felt him right behind her. The next second, his body pressed intimately into hers, his chin resting lightly on her shoulder.
"Luca, we are in the office. I have to work, so you better not do anything inappropriate," Sara whispered, tilting her head slightly to allow him space.
"But I’ve not done anything yet," Luca murmured back, his hands caressing the sides of her thighs before halting gently on her waist.
"What’s truly in your mind that you came here?" Sara asked, finally managing to turn completely to face him, her expression serious. "Don’t tell me you argued with your parents."
"I told you I missed you. You should finish your work," Luca replied, moving behind the desk and settling into his executive chair. "Since I’m here, I’ll manage the meetings too."
"Okay," Sara agreed, seeing the benefit of having him handle the heavy workload. "The sales department quarterly report is here on the desk. You were supposed to see it later, but now that you’re here, you can check it."
"Hmm. Understood," Luca murmured, glancing at the file.
"There’s a meeting after 15 minutes," she informed him about the schedule. "It’s a progress meeting for the department heads. Then, immediately after that, there’s a crucial meeting with one of the biggest investors in the group," she detailed. "However, if you feel tired or in pain after attending the first meeting due to your injury, do tell me. I’ll ask the investor to shift their meeting for next week."
"That won’t be needed," Luca assured her confidently. "I’ll finish them both today."
"Okay, then," Sara conceded. She pivoted on her heels and walked out of the office, trusting him to handle the business.
~~~~~
"It was such a busy day. The managers flooded your office with well-wishing bouquets and gifts as soon as they found out you’re in the office," Sara said, walking hand-in-hand with Luca. Looking around them nervously, she asked, "By the way, where are the bodyguards? Is it okay for us to walk around like this in the park after what happened?"
"They don’t reveal themselves," Luca replied, offering a small reassurance, and then halted, pulling her to a stop. "Sara, I came to the office for a reason more important than work. Remo found out who attacked you."
"Who was it?" Sara’s cheerful expression suddenly changed into a serious one, her hand instinctively tightening on his.
"Someone I thought was dead long ago," Luca replied gravely. "He targeted you to come at me. And I’m sorry for dragging you into this mess."
Sara pulled him toward the nearest park bench, and the two sat down immediately. "Tell me everything. And if you tell your parents about this, they are just going to blame you and your work," she warned, knowing their predictable reaction.
"I don’t care about their opinions right now," Luca dismissed the concern. "But I must admit it was my negligence. The shooter must have been checking our every movement, including the sudden trip. He followed us to that place, too," he muttered, shaking his head.
"And you took the attack, saved me," Sara stated, focusing on his sacrifice rather than the danger.
"Hmm," Luca acknowledged.
"So, what’s the plan?" Sara asked, immediately shifting to action. "In my opinion, you should inform the police about this."
"Martin isn’t here in Spain. He’s operating from Italy," Luca explained. "Remo will track him down first. Also, the shooter we caught wasn’t telling anything to the police. You can see how the network operates in the mafias; they hardly communicate unless the person from the same business approaches them directly."
"Are you planning to go to Italy then?" Sara asked, her eyes searching his face.
"Not yet. First, his base of operations must be discovered. Remo is working on it diligently," Luca replied. He then offered the critical context. "When my grandfather was alive, Martin created lots of trouble for him. Remo and I were involved in a direct confrontation with Martin a few years ago in a place called Island X. But we made a mistake, he ended up alive," Luca muttered, the failure of that mission clearly haunting him.
"Did you try to kill him?" Sara asked.
"Yes," Luca admitted. "It was important. You have no idea what kind of man Martin was."
"Then, tell me everything," Sara replied.
"He hated my grandfather because Grandpa informed the police about his illegal activities," Luca began.
"All mafias do illegal things," Sara murmured.
"They clean it cleverly too," Luca answered. "Someone slowly poisoned my grandfather that caused his death. That’s the reason I chose to come into this business." He finally revealed the real reason to Sara.
