MMORPG: Birth of the World's Luckiest Player-Chapter 183: The Spring of Purity
Marcus happily began collecting the items dropped by the Two-Headed Mist-Tear Fiend, and it quickly became clear that the boss had not disappointed.
Mist-Tear Spear of Purity: (Black Mythic Artifact) Effects unknown. Cannot be equipped.
He stared at the spear for a long moment, then let out a low whistle. A Gold-tier boss, and a generous one at that. It had dropped a Mythic Artifact outright. Between this and the Sea Soul Demonic Jade Necklace and Blood-Fiend Cloak he had obtained from the Blood-Fiend Flower Demon, he had already acquired two Mythic Artifacts within the Mist Veil Palace alone.
Turning the spear over in his hands, Marcus felt a surge of anticipation. Now that he could wield two-handed weapons, a spear like this would be perfect for mounted combat, especially when charging at full speed, assuming its attributes lived up to its rarity.
The quality of the drops left him genuinely amazed. For level thirty and above equipment, even Gold-tier items were rare, let alone Mythic Artifacts. His outrageous luck in the Mist Veil Palace was no accident. It was the result of multiple overlapping factors: the Blood-Fiend Flower Demon had been a unique monster, the Two-Headed Mist-Tear Fiend was an evolved boss, his own Luck stat was abnormally high, and most importantly, he was the first player to ever defeat them.
Under those same conditions, any other player would be lucky to walk away with a single Mythic-tier item. Of course, very few players could have killed those two bosses in the first place.
Mist-Tear Mask: (Gold Equipment) Effects unknown. Cannot be equipped.
Mist-Tear Necklace: (Gold Equipment) Effects unknown. Cannot be equipped.
Both pieces radiated a rich yellow glow, the telltale sign of High Golden-tier equipment. Alongside them were four Dreamland Gems and more than five thousand gold coins.
The loot was undeniably excellent, though compared to the absurd generosity of the level thirty Gold-tier Blood-Fiend Flower Demon, the Two-Headed Fiend felt almost restrained. Then again, the Blood-Fiend had been a prodigy of the Demon Clan. Its drops were naturally on another level.
’Wait... what’s that?’
Just as Marcus finished gathering the gleaming equipment and turned his attention toward the spring, something else caught his eye. Near the edge of the loot pile lay a dark, metallic token pulsing with a faint, shadowy glow. It was so dim that it had been completely overshadowed by the brilliance of the Mythic and Gold items around it.
He bent down and picked it up. The moment it touched his palm, a sense of familiarity washed over him. Three bold, stylized words were carved cleanly into its surface.
Guild Creation Token.
’No way.’
His breath caught. It really was a Guild Creation Token. No wonder it had looked so familiar.
"I’m rich!" he shouted, the memory of the previous token’s auction price flashing through his mind. Eighty-two million gold coins. Eight point two million dollars. He laughed like a madman and planted a firm kiss on the cold metal in his hand.
He could hardly believe it. Finding even one Guild Creation Token was absurdly rare. And now he had found a second.
Only ten such tokens had been released during Dominion’s first wave. With hundreds of millions of players competing across the world, acquiring even one was a once-in-a-lifetime stroke of luck. He had just secured his second.
"Marcus, you lucky bastard!" he exclaimed, grinning ear to ear.
He immediately opened the Guild Leaderboard to check the current situation. As expected, only one guild had been established so far.

Guild Leaderboard:
1. Black Dragon Guild
Guild Master: Demonic Dragon

Just as he thought. The first token had sold for an astronomical eighty-two million gold. What would the second one fetch? Could it break the record? Marcus turned the token over and over in his hands, already wondering if it was even possible for him to find a third.
That would truly be legendary.
He browsed the remaining leaderboards. Nothing had changed. He still dominated every category except the guild rankings, and by an overwhelming margin. Thanks to his run through the Mist Veil Palace, he had advanced from level thirty to thirty-one in less than ten hours. The player ranked second, RogueTheory, was still stuck at level twenty-eight.
’Awesome.’
Marcus closed the leaderboards, his heart still pounding, and finally turned his attention toward the spring itself. Everything he had gained so far was merely an appetizer.
The real prize awaited him.
The spring formed a perfect circle roughly three meters across. Its crystal-clear water glowed with a mesmerizing ice-blue radiance. A gentle bubbling sound filled the air as a narrow stream of water arced gracefully upward before splashing back into the pool. Cold mist drifted outward from the spring, freezing the surrounding air into a thin fog. The vapor curled and rose like pale smoke, wrapping the Mist Veil Palace in a dreamlike haze.
Suspended within the mist above the water floated four artifacts, slowly rotating. Three radiated a deep purple glow, while the fourth burned with a vivid red light. Their brilliance pierced the fog, making them look impossibly beautiful, almost unreal.
’You’re all about to be mine’, he thought with a quiet chuckle.
As Marcus stepped closer, a splash of ice-cold water struck his face. The chill rushed through his body, refreshing him instantly and washing away the lingering fatigue from his brutal battle with the Two-Headed Fiend.
’This water is incredible’, he thought, and immediately activated Insight on the spring.

Spring of Purity: One of the five great divine springs of the Dreamland Continent. It contains the purest form of Negative energy in the world, making it a sacred spring for healing and curing diseases, with miraculous properties.
A thousand years ago, the spring was seized by the Water Moon Cult, which used its pure Negative energy to create a Divine-tier demonic beast, the Soul-Mist Water Demon Cat, resulting in the loss of some of the spring’s power.
Over the past millennium, a large portion of the spring’s Negative energy has been absorbed by an unknown party, causing its strength to decline sharply and leaving it on the verge of depletion.

Marcus’s eyes widened.
The Spring of Purity was one of the five great divine springs, just like the Spring of Polaris he had discovered back in the Newbie Village. He still vividly remembered drinking from that spring and permanently gaining ten points to each of his four basic attributes.
’What would this one do?’
Overjoyed, he immediately began searching for containers. He needed to collect as much of the water as possible. He had stocked up thoroughly before entering the palace, but water vessels had completely slipped his mind. The realization made him curse under his breath.
Fortunately, luck remained on his side. Nine large water jars were neatly arranged beside the spring. Without them, he would have been forced to abandon this priceless treasure.
He briefly considered lowering his head and drinking straight from the spring, but his experience with the Spring of Polaris stopped him. Divine water was powerful, but it was not something to be consumed recklessly.
Before doing anything else, he needed to understand exactly what this spring could do.
