MMORPG: I was BUGGED-Chapter 340: The Truce
It was a one-time shot since Midnight Duchess could have hidden the item in her bank, and fortunately, she didn’t.
Though it raised the question of why she didn’t. Xin thought.
[Love’s Enduring Sacrifice] was a legendary-grade item and not the type of possession typically carried in an inventory.
Maybe she was confident in her skills, or perhaps there was another reason.
Unbeknownst to Xin, the reason why Midnight Duchess didn’t store it in her bank was that she liked to look at it from her inventory.
It was easier to admire it there than in the bank, given the hassle of accessing the bank features every time. It was a shortcut.
Midnight Duchess remained silent, processing the fact that her identity had been unveiled. The tension hung in the air, and Xin could sense her contemplating her next move.
Hilda stood beside Lord Scrooge, and observed the scene with a wary eye. She tightened her grip on her massive hammer, ready to intervene if things took a hostile turn.
Xin maintained a calm exterior, his eyes fixed on Midnight Duchess.
Despite the revelation, he was prepared for any outcome.
Finally, breaking the silence, Midnight Duchess spoke, "So, what now? Planning to turn me in, Lord Scrooge? Or should I say Lord Schrodinger?"
Xin took a deep breath. He had expected that she would recognized him as well given that Victor was with him, and because of his golems.
Xin shrugged nonchalantly. "I don’t see any reason to. We’re here for a common goal, and as long as that aligns, I see no need for hostilities."
A hint of relief flickered in Midnight Duchess’s eyes, realizing that Xin wasn’t immediately taking an adversarial stance.
The atmosphere eased slightly, but an undercurrent of tension lingered.
Seraphim, still wary, cautiously asked, "You’re not going to exploit this information, are you?"
Xin smiled faintly. "I’m not one to exploit others. Besides, if I do that, you’d tell others about my identity as well. How about we call it even?"
"I’m fine with that."
In truth, Xin just wanted to confirm if Seraphim was really Midnight Duchess. He was also prepared to unmask his identity in the process.
Xin didn’t know why, but that’s all he could think about. He was even surprised that he wasn’t angry at her like he thought he would the next time they see each other.
"And the Love’s Enduring Sacrifice that you took from me . . . ," Xin started.
"You can’t have it back," Midnight Duchess quickly interjected.
"I’m going to say that you can have it as payment for your hard work in the Castle of Doom," Xin explained. "Though you have stolen it, you didn’t get your fair share of loot back there, so consider it as payment."
Midnight Duchess blinked before she laughed out loud. "If I knew this would happen, I should have just asked for it in the first place."
Xin doubted that he would give her that item in the past, but now he didn’t really care about it anymore since he had more legendary-grade items.
Besides, he didn’t have any use for that item, and he was planning to auction it in the first place, so . . .
"Just tell me . . . why are you so obsessed with that item?" Xin asked, curious.
"Why?" Midnight Duchess proudly raised her head and exclaimed, "Because it’s beautiful, that’s why."
". . ." Xin wryly sighed and muttered in a low voice, "Why am I not surprised . . .?"
Victor did warn him about Midnight Duchess’s staling tendencies.
Whatever she fancies, she would get it even by force.
"So does this mean that we have a truce?" Midnight Duchess asked, extending her hand to Lord Scrooge.
Xin accepted her hand and they shook to seal their agreement. "Sure. Let’s focus on finding the Golden Tail Kitsune and completing this mission. But this time, don’t steal anything from me. You can just ask if you want something, and maybe we can trade items or favors for it."
Midnight Duchess beamed. "Got it." She then muttered in a low voice, "If you want, we can get married so we can use this [Love Enduring Sacrifice]."
Xin stared at her. "Huh? Did you say something?"
"Did you hear me say something?" Midnight Duchess asked back.
Xin didn’t comment and turned back, gesturing for them to continue their journey.
However, at the side, Hilda had heard everything, and she quickly went to Lord Scrooge and whispered in his ear.
"Lord Scrooge, that woman is dangerous. She has ulterior motives. She said that she wanted to marry you."
As she spoke in a hissing voice, she glared at Midnight Duchess from behind.
Xin didn’t take Hilda seriously and said, "That’s unbelievable more than anything else. You’ve probably heard wrong."
"No. I definitely heard it right."
Xin briefly gave her a glance. "I don’t see any reason why she would want me as a partner in this game. I’m low-leveled and not a match for her, so you definitely heard it wrong. Let’s just continue on to the next save point. Our four hours are about up."
He then moved ahead, leaving Hilda gaping at him.
Hilda gritted her teeth in frustration when Lord Scrooge was oblivious to the real motive of Midnight Duchess.
Hilda then looked back when she felt a light tap on her shoulder.
Midnight Duchess sweetly smiled at her and said, "Let’s get along, okay? After all, you might see me all the time from now on."
She then walked ahead and skipped next to Lord Scrooge.
Hilda froze, and her face cracked in shock. "What does that mean?"
Midnight Duchess only smiled her way before ignoring her and talking with Lord Scrooge.
Hilda hurried after Lord Scrooge while glaring at Midnight Duchess.
’I will definitely not let you have your way. As long as I am here, I will protect Lord Scrooge from you!’ Hilda promised in her mind.
Meanwhile, on Victor and the others’ side, they were surprised that Lord Scrooge, Hilda, and Seraphim had managed to acquire a part of the uncharted woodlands this early on.
The village of the Kitsune, Yamamura, was even drawn on the map! With this, they could finally find the Golden Tail Kitsune!
Though they were surprised that the Kitsune had a village. Does that mean that there were a lot of Golden Tail Kitsune in that area?
Sylvan got excited at the prospect.
"Have Lord Scrooge and the others wait for us at the last save point before entering the village," said Sylvan.
Since they acquired the map, there was no need to waste time on other parts of the forest, and they could just go straight to the Kitsune village.
"We’ll enter the village together tomorrow."
