MMORPG: I was BUGGED-Chapter 350: Under Threat
Ignis was unable to meet Lord Scrooge and the others’ eyes. He lowered his gaze as he walked by, a hint of embarrassment on his face.
Luna and Drakoon, on the other hand, proudly raised their heads, as if they were the ones who had discovered the village.
The atmosphere lingered with a mixture of annoyance, frustration, and a touch of satisfaction for Nightshade’s guild.
Victor was still wearing a scowl, and turned to Xin.
"No wonder they were stuck in the same location for more than an hour," Victor muttered when Nightshade and his army passed them. "Looks like those bastards were waiting for Doombringers to come."
"They must have collected all their groups in the forest to meet up in this location; that’s why it took time," Seraphim explained. "It’s also the reason why their numbers reached one hundred. They must be made up of ten different groups belonging to Doombringers scattered in the forest."
"Why did you just let them pass, Lord Scrooge?" Hilda asked as she munched on the fruit she casually picked up from the fallen tree. "I could have easily take care of them if you said the words."
"Don’t be ridiculous," Victor reprimanded her. "Those guys are at least the same level as me, and their numbers are in the hundreds."
"Exactly," Hilda only muttered simply.
Victor couldn’t reply and caught his tongue, confused.
Xin quickly changed the topic before Hilda could disclose anything more. "It’s fine. Even they’re not foolish enough to fight the Yokais in the village."
Just as Xin said that, they heard a commotion at the entrance of the village.
When they quickly went to see what was going on, the two guards stationed at the entrance were blocking Nightshade and his group from entering the village.
Xin’s eyes widened. Right . . . he forgot about those guards.
"You’ve let those guys in, but you can’t let us in?!" Drakoon barked; his friendly and easy-going demeanor in the past seemed to be replaced by a totally different person.
Or was it the real him?
"Lord Scrooge and the others have earned their right to enter the village," the guards said with a blank face.
"Then what do we need to do?" Luna asked.
"Like I said, you guys are not welcome here!" the guards resolutely stated.
"But you let Sylvan’s group in. They must have done something, right? A quest perhaps? We’ll do that too," Nightshade said calmly.
The guards shook their heads. "There’s no such thing. Lord Scrooge and his group have earned their right to enter our village, and our Lady Satomi has already blessed their entry."
"Like we said, what did they do to earn their entry?" Luna persisted in an annoyed tone.
Ah . . . of course, they wouldn’t be able to enter the village. Xin thought. Unless they raised those guards’ relationship level, they would not grant them entry.
Come to think of it . . . if he didn’t have his Bugged, what were the conditions to raise the two guards’ relationship level? Food? Time, perhaps? Or maybe some kind of hidden words.
There were just so many variables to consider and Xin thought that the answer lies in the forest. But since he used his cheat, they had shortcut here.
"Turn back now, or we will use force. This is your last warning!" the guards warned.
Nightshade faced Lord Scrooge and asked, "How did you enter this village?"
Victor smirked. "You stole the map from us, and now you want to steal that information as well?"
"We will pay you," Nightshade went straight to the point.
However, Victor remained steadfast and crossed his arms in disobedience. "Do you think we need money?"
At that point, Nightshade’s face darkened. "Don’t push your luck, Grey Smoke. This is Doombringers you’re up against."
Victor only grinned. "Oh. I’m scared." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
Xin sighed inwardly and was about to intervene when Drakoon lost his patience.
"Screw it! These guards aren’t high level. I can defeat them with ease!" He drew his weapon and pointed it at the guards.
Nightshade lost his cool for a moment and shouted, "Idiot, don’t do that! We don’t know what we will trigger–!"
But his warnings came too late, and the guards blew their horns!
"Enemies! We’re being attacked by humanoids at the entrance! Sound the alarms!" the guards shouted as they prepared to defend their village.
More guards from the village came out and charged at Nightshade and his group.
As the alarms echoed through the village, the once peaceful atmosphere turned into a state of emergency.
Yokai villagers hurriedly evacuated the streets, seeking refuge in their homes or the designated safe zones.
The sudden intrusion by Nightshade and his group had disrupted the tranquil setting of Yama-mura.
The guards, now joined by additional reinforcements, formed a defensive line against Nightshade and his companions. Each guard held their weapons at the ready, a mix of traditional Yokai weaponry and enchanted items.
The tension in the air was palpable as the two forces faced off.
Victor, Xin, Hilda, and Seraphim stepped back, positioning themselves near the entrance, watching the unfolding situation with cautious eyes.
Despite the sudden turn of events, Victor maintained his composure, a small smirk playing on his lips as he observed Nightshade’s group.
Nightshade realized the severity of the situation, and shouted orders to his group. "Hold your ground! We need to find a way to negotiate with these guards. We’re not here for a fight."
Drakoon was still holding his weapon, and hesitated for a moment but eventually lowered it. Luna and Ignis followed suit, preparing for a possible dialogue rather than a confrontation.
However, it was already too late when the Yokai charged at Nightshade and his guild.
Xin and the others immediately teleported away from the fight, not wanting to be implicated.
While the fight quickly escalated, a thought entered Xin’s mind.
So, that’s why the guards’ level was low; they were supposed to be defeatable, Xin mused as Nightshade and the others killed some of the Yokai guards.
However, this choice would definitely have negative repercussions.
