Chapter 604: Chapter 92: The Netherworld Without Roots (Part Five)

Scorpion tail, lion mane, mixed on a frog’s body, challenging Lu Hong’s cognitive nerves every second.

The frog’s mouth still hadn’t completely swallowed the rabbit-headed mantis, and it chose to ignore Lu Hong, this human intruder in its sight.

Seeing that the demon beast did not intend to attack him, Lu Hong did not want to provoke the creature. Hence, he stuck close to the wall and walked past the frog.

Not until he turned into the next corridor did Lu Hong finally let down his guard completely.

He had only seen two demon beasts of the Hades Palace, but that was enough to overturn Lu Hong’s understanding of demon beast behavior, leaving him speechless. He was very curious about what factors had led to such disharmonious mutations in the demon beasts.

Could it be that Lando had been here?

Impossible. Lando hadn’t even reached the Demigod Realm and couldn’t enter the Netherworld, let alone this palace that officials had struggled immensely to open.

Continuing his walk through the dim corridor, for nearly an hour, Lu Hong encountered not a single demon beast.

The silence of the dim corridor was terrifying, but it was enough to get Lu Hong thinking about all he had witnessed since entering the Netherworld.

Why did the group of officials want to save Nono?

This unavoidable question lay before his eyes, and Lu Hong regretted being too emotional upon hearing Nono’s news, to the extent that he had forgotten to ask the officials.

Did Nono have some special significance to the officials?

Shouldn’t be, right?

Lu Hong couldn’t figure it out and had no choice but to keep this question at the back of his mind. He decided to find Nono first and ask her, to see if he could get some clues.

After walking for half an hour, Lu Hong encountered the third Hades Palace demon beast.

This beast looked normal: a huge lion.

The lion was lying across the corridor, blocking Lu Hong’s way.

The lion, with its keen hearing, quickly noticed Lu Hong not far away. However, like the others, the lion showed no desire to attack. It gave Lu Hong a glance and then lay its head down, lazily rolling over, seemingly unconcerned about Lu Hong’s approach.

Seeing the demon beast act this way, Lu Hong dared not relax. He suspected that the lion was deliberately acting nonchalant to lure him closer and then suddenly attack.

But after waiting for several tens of minutes, all he got was the sound of the lion’s deep snores.

Damn it, is it playing with me?

Lu Hong’s mood was explosive, and he decided to step directly over the lion’s body.

Looking back, the lion truly hadn’t stirred.

"Not going to eat me?" Lu Hong muttered softly, "Fine by me if you don’t!"

The lion seemed to hear Lu Hong’s voice, woke up from its sleep, and glared annoyedly at Lu Hong standing at the ready; it then stood up, took a bite of the green vines growing on the wall, and gave Lu Hong a contemptuous glance as if to say, I’m a vegetarian, not interested in you, idiot!

Uh...

Lu Hong was speechless. A vegetarian lion? No wonder it looked normal on the outside; its taste buds had mutated.

No longer wary of the lion, Lu Hong continued deeper into the corridor.

After probably another hour, suddenly, a gaping maw with sharp fangs burst out from the green vines on the wall, snapping viciously at Lu Hong’s head.

Lu Hong was shocked, retreating rapidly to dodge the lethal strike.

Looking up, he saw that the huge mouthful of fangs was actually on a plant.

The plant, missing its strike, seemed to be infuriated, letting out a sharp scream.

With that one scream, the entire corridor seemed to awaken, as countless gaping maws emerged from the green vines.

Lu Hong’s scalp tingled at the sight.

Moreover, the vines began to move, creeping closer to Lu Hong.

He had to get through the corridor!

Lu Hong grasped the Blood Holy Sword, cut through the attacking vines, and then sprinted forward.

He continuously wielded the two Crimson Blades, shredding the attacking gaping maws one after another. The failed predatory plant got angrier, detached itself from the wall, and turned into a monster covered in mouths, starting to chase Lu Hong.

Lu Hong was fast in his all-out sprint, but the plant was faster. In the blink of an eye, it caught up to Lu Hong, its numerous mouths stretching from its body and biting the Holy Sword he wielded.

"Blood Qi Shockwave!" Lu Hong immediately activated his skill, and the power of his blood and qi burst forth explosively, driving the monster back.

Yet the beast, as it retreated, devoured the blood and qi leaking from Lu Hong’s body, growing even more excited.

It could eat the power of blood and qi?

Upon sensing the monster’s ability, Lu Hong’s face dramatically changed. The enemy was not afraid of Blood Qi, how was he supposed to respond?

The monster, empowered by consuming Blood Qi, became even more frenzied and resolute in its pursuit of the human before it. Countless vines shot out, weaving a large net in Lu Hong’s path.

Lu Hong unleashed a Blood River, charging forward.

But as numerous mouths opened, the Blood Qi was devoured completely.

With Blood Qi skills inflicting no damage, Lu Hong had no choice but to stop in his tracks.

Looking back at the chasing monster, what was he to do?

Suddenly, Lu Hong had an idea—why not use the creatures of Hades Palace to deal with the monster?

Setting his mind to it, Lu Hong didn’t retreat but advanced instead, sprinting towards the monster.

In the moment he neared the monster, Lu Hong switched to Pure Steel Battle Energy and the Steel Holy Sword.

With one swing, he cleared the monster’s mouth-filled arms and slipped by its side, rapidly running toward the direction from which he had come.

The monster was baffled. Wasn’t it Blood Qi? Why had it suddenly changed?

In its moment of stupefaction, Lu Hong had already run far away.

Enraged, the monster extended its internal vines to intercept Lu Hong’s path.

Regrettably, Lu Hong had run a distance beyond the reach of its skills and could only roar in pursuit.

Knowing the monster’s startling speed, Lu Hong gritted his teeth and activated "Heavenly God Descent." Strengthened by Divine Power, he barely kept pace with the monster’s speed, avoiding being caught.

After releasing Divine Power within his body, the creature, attracted by the scent, became even more frenzied, as if Divine Power was more to its liking.

Within ten minutes of high-speed dashing, Lu Hong had returned to the corridor where he had first encountered the lion.

The lion remained lazily lying there, not moving an inch upon seeing Lu Hong rushing towards it.

But the next second, its keen sense of smell picked up a familiar scent.

The lion abruptly raised its head, staring intently into the dim corridor behind Lu Hong.

Moments later, the monster emerged with a roar, but upon seeing the lion, it stopped dead in its tracks, its frenzied roars coming to an abrupt halt, as if fearful of disturbing the lion.

Seeing this, Lu Hong knew he had gambled correctly; this lion must be the monster’s nemesis.

As the plant monster attempted to flee, the lion would not let go of the delicacy that had come to its mouth. It let out a thunderous roar and swiftly pounced on the plant behemoth.

Confronted with the lion’s roar, the plant monster instinctively felt terror, its legs going weak, nearly losing the ability to move.

In the span of a breath, the lion had pounced atop the beast, pinning it to the ground.

The plant monster tried to struggle, ceaselessly stimulating its vines to entangle the lion, but no matter how hard the vines exerted force, they could not budge the lion in the slightest.

Those mouths that could devour Blood Qi also fell before the lion’s soft fur, which seemed soft but was an impenetrable defense that the gaping maws could never break through.

Is this species suppression? Lu Hong let out a sigh. It was a complete victory, not giving even the smallest chance.

After pinning down the plant monster, the lion glanced back at Lu Hong, its eyes filled with admiration, then lowered its head to feast away.

In no time, the plant monster was devoured cleanly. Satiated, the lion lazily approached Lu Hong, rubbed affectionately against him, and then barked!

Barked?

Barked?

Lu Hong looked at the lion in astonishment. Was that... a dog’s bark?

Indeed, Hades Palace was no place for humans!

Having enjoyed the feast Lu Hong provided, the lion seemed inclined to repay him, lowering its body to signal Lu Hong to mount its back.

Lu Hong, understanding the lion’s gesture, asked, "Do you mean to offer me a ride?"

The lion, understanding human language, nodded its head.

"And do you know where I want to go?" Lu Hong questioned again.

The lion gave Lu Hong a disdainful look, its eyes seemingly saying: Are you an idiot? How would I know where you need to go?

Feeling belittled by the Demon Beast, Lu Hong took out the map, displayed it before the lion, and pointed at Nono’s location, "I need to go there; can you take me?"

The lion examined the map carefully, and after a while, its paw pointed halfway along the route.

"So you’ll take me that far?"

Once the lion confirmed, Lu Hong did not hesitate, stored the map, and mounted the lion.
