Chapter 617: Chapter 105: Rootless in the Netherworld (18)

That night, the Chief Judge entered the Divine Palace and faithfully reported on the movements of the Star Sea Alliance’s forces, submitting his perfect defensive plan.

"Then we shall proceed as you suggest," the Netherworld God nodded in agreement and then made a promise to the Chief Judge, "Defeat the Star Sea Alliance, and I can grant you half of the Star Sea’s territory, crowning you as king."

"Your servant will gladly go through fire and water for Your Majesty; it is my honor!" It was the first time the Netherworld God showed such generosity, and admittedly, the Chief Judge was truly moved.

To have a country within a country, to live freely, and to be protected by the Netherworld God, how could that not be enticing?

Having received the decree, Bodo ordered the Netherworld’s armies to launch an attack on the Star Sea Alliance that very night.

The vast Netherworld armies poured out in a torrential wave. As soon as the battle began, it erupted across more than thirty planes. Over time, the conflict spread even wider.

The Netherworld legions, composed entirely of Third Transition strength, proved exceedingly difficult to handle, especially since these individuals were once the Star Sea’s most outstanding talents in their past lives.

Under the absolute suppression of power, the Star Sea Alliance was quickly defeated. In less than three days, they lost territory after territory, growing ever distant from the Netherworld Continent, unable to break through.

Konstantin, Bu Sheng, and others who came to oversee the troops nearly became the first victims under the blades of the Netherworld’s vanguard.

Despite their defeat, the alliance forces resisted desperately, without cowardice or desertion.

Seven days later, the Axis of the World arrived at the battlefield. This war machine, the crowning jewel of the Eagle Alliance, unleashed a powerful deterrent fueled by countless life offerings, forcing the Netherworld army’s ranks to drop by a tier.

From that point on, the military forces of both sides were evenly matched, miring them in a bloody struggle.

Two days more, and the Ancestor Dragon descended upon the battlefield with billions of Demon Beasts, catching the Chief Judge completely off guard with the sudden aerial assault.

The eighteen planes bordering the Netherworld dimmed beneath the Ancestor Dragon’s wings.

"How large can it possibly be?!" In his surprise, the Chief Judge promptly sent the intelligence to Netherworld God’s hands.

He then immediately ordered a retreat, to strengthen the defenses of the Netherworld Continent.

The Ancestor Dragon did not enter the Netherworld straight away but instead reorganized his horde of Demon Beasts. Put simply, he taught them to recognize allies. Higher-level Demon Beasts lacked a sense of unity, and even if they were top-tier creatures, they could still be easily suppressed by the enemy on the battlefield, let alone by a group of co-operative Netherworld troops of equal rank.

Therefore, to ensure victory in the war and to minimize the death toll among his Demon Beasts, the Ancestor Dragon chose to form a temporary alliance with Konstantin and others.

Looking at the Ancestor Dragon now reduced to a little over human height, Konstantin couldn’t shake a surreal feeling. Just moments ago, he couldn’t even see the end of a single scale, and now it had shrunk to this size?

"Human emperor, where is your Holy Emperor Sword?" the Ancestor Dragon inquired.

"Ah... Lord Ancestor Dragon, the sword was taken by thieves, and its whereabouts have been unknown ever since." Konstantin felt puzzled as to why the Ancestor Dragon would ask about this sword.

"What a pity," the Ancestor Dragon continued, "Do you know the origin of this sword?"

"It was forged at the request of my ancestors to the many Heavenly Gods, to strengthen our realm," replied Konstantin.

"Do you then know what the true purpose of the sword is, whom it is meant to guard against?"

"Could it be the Netherworld God?" Konstantin was somewhat incredulous. A single sword, could it really oppose the mighty Netherworld God?

"Correct," the Ancestor Dragon nodded, "This Divine Sword was indeed crafted with great effort to counter the threat of the Netherworld God. While it may not kill the Netherworld God, the divine formation inscribed within it is the best restraint against her. If I had this sword, the Netherworld God would surely die!"

"What a shame!" Konstantin lamented. The words of the Ancestor Dragon gave him a full understanding of its power – capable of defeating the Netherworld God but not of killing her.

After arranging various affairs, the Ancestor Dragon once again transformed into the Ancient Dragon, flying into the Netherworld Continent.

Although the Netherworld’s defenses were tight, they didn’t dare make a move against the entering Ancestor Dragon.

The shadow of the Ancestor Dragon, which blocked out the sun, passed over the heads of the Netherworld inhabitants. It shrouded the Netherworld’s defenses for days on end before completely vanishing.

During those days, all the inhabitants of the Netherworld were terrified. Such an immense creature could squash all the Netherworld troops into meat patties with a mere fall from above.

Fortunately, it left, heading towards the heart of the Netherworld, to challenge their ruler, their god.

The mere presence of a giant creature always instills a chill in the heart. Having witnessed the might of the Ancestor Dragon, countless Netherworld inhabitants began to doubt in their hearts – how could their god defeat this enormous being?

Amidst the Ancestor Dragon’s approach, a fury as vast as the waves ignited the murky realms of the Underworld, burning all the way to the God Palace.

The Netherworld God abruptly opened his eyes from his meditation and conjured a towering figure above the God Palace, rebuking, "Ancestor Dragon! Who gave you the audacity to enter my Netherworld?"

"Hand over my brother, Netherworld God!" the Ancestor Dragon didn’t waste any words and let out a dragon’s roar that shattered the heavens and rent the earth.

"Your brother?" The Netherworld God was genuinely surprised. Although he had no particular friendship with the Ancestor Dragon, both had traversed the Era of the Gods and were somewhat familiar with each other’s past deeds. As far as the Netherworld God knew, the Ancestor Dragon, like him, was a proud creature who would never deign to have friends, let alone a brother by further relation.

"You have a brother?" The Netherworld God laughed mockingly, "Have you, the Ancestor Dragon, fallen so low? Is just anyone worthy of being called your brother?"

"Enough prattle!" The Ancestor Dragon, anxious to save someone, didn’t bother with the Netherworld God’s banter and spat out a scorching dragon’s breath.

The Netherworld God, not pleased by the sudden attack, exclaimed, "How dare you!"

With that, he swept his large sleeve, and layers of black Divine Power swirled up, colliding with the dragon’s breath. The clash of their mighty powers set off an endless tide of demons, nearly toppling the Netherworld Royal City beneath their feet.

"A mere avatar thinks to stop me?" The Ancestor Dragon was no mere fool; his massive dragon’s claw swooped down furiously, tearing through the Netherworld God’s illusionary figure and, unstoppable, aimed directly for the God Palace.

Now the Netherworld God couldn’t sit idly by, he burst through the roof of the God Palace and raised his hands to the heavens to block the Ancestor Dragon’s strike.

Beneath his colossal form, the Ancestor Dragon’s claw strike alone weighed as much as several planes of existence.

Though the Netherworld God bore it, the pressure was tremendous; if the Ancestor Dragon applied more force, he might indeed be pinned to the ground.

After recognizing the Ancestor Dragon’s overwhelming strength, the Netherworld God resolved not to clash head-on with him.

He then unleashed his Divine Power, transforming it into the scythe of death, aimed at the dragon’s claw.

Before the scythe even closed in, it managed to damage the Ancestor Dragon’s sturdy scales, leaving a faint trace of blood.

The Ancestor Dragon equally marveled at the horrors of the Divine Power, then shrank in size and dodged the scythe’s attack.

If a gigantic form’s defense is unbroken, it’s a disaster for the enemy; otherwise, it’s a liability for oneself.

Given the Netherworld God had the capability to breach the Ancestor Dragon’s defenses, maintaining such an enormous size was clearly unsuitable.

The Netherworld God, seizing the opportunity, continued to strike with the scythe, saying, "Let’s see what else you got!"

"Humph! Courting death!" The Ancestor Dragon would not be outdone, his dragon language murmuring low, as a profound Divine Power burst forth from within him. Ice and flame, enhanced by the element of wind, swirled together into a red and white lotus, blooming bit by bit.

The Netherworld God, gazing at the lotus’ eerie beauty, admired the Skill while cautiously guarding against it.

As the lotus bloomed, the potent Divine Power spread outward, shattering the surrounding space inch by inch.

The dragon’s claws lifted the lotus and hurled it towards the Netherworld God.

The Netherworld God, perceiving the terrifying Divine Power within, naturally refused to meet it head-on and quickly threw his scythe, cleaving fiercely into the lotus.

The two Divine Powers merged, setting off a cataclysmic force. The heart of the Netherworld was immediately submerged by red, white, and black Divine Powers, the end of which was obscured for a long while.

Under the onslaught of this Divine Power, the Ancestor Dragon and the Netherworld God fought several more rounds, their strengths matched, each claiming victories and defeats.

When the Divine Power finally dissipated, the vast Netherworld Royal City and the God Palace where the Netherworld God resided were completely flattened, vanishing without a trace.

Heaven and earth became one, above and below were nothingness.

"If you’ve come here to make trouble, Ancestor Dragon, I will accompany you to the very end!" The Netherworld God conceded, for she was the ruler of an entire realm, not a solitary individual. Should they fail to defeat the Ancestor Dragon, the Netherworld would be devastated in their wake, a sight the Netherworld God did not wish to behold.

"Then hand over my brother to me!" the Ancestor Dragon demanded sternly, "Give me my brother, then seal yourself for seven hundred years and never leave the Netherworld!"

Upon hearing the Ancestor Dragon’s conditions, the Netherworld God retortedcoldly, "Are you joking with me?"

Seal myself for seven hundred years? Then what’s the point of my awakening?

Seeing the Netherworld God’s refusal, the Ancestor Dragon didn’t waste words, "If you refuse, I will fight until you agree!"
