Chapter 628: Chapter 116: Returning to the Ancient Dreams (Part 8)

Leicester led the troops to retreat and headed south toward the sand; Akes hastily ordered troops to come and station at Beixing Mountain.

Lu Hong, who had been waiting, used the time difference and, along with Hai Ge and others, successfully passed through Beixing and entered the territory of Viscount Le Leng.

Beixing Mountain acted as a natural barrier between the Akes family and the Le family. Whoever seized Beixing Mountain would turn it into a fortress vital for attacking the opposing family. It had been a site of contention between the two great families for a century. Although it was currently under the control of the Akes family, Le Leng was not afraid at all. Compared to before, it was much easier to annihilate the Akes family by simply assisting some people of the Human Race to smuggle in, which could plunge the Akes family into an irreversible disaster.

However, it was not yet time to make a move. Once the Akes family was destroyed, the Le family would definitely become the next target. Therefore, Le Leng had to find the right moment to strike against the Akes family around the time when Tiger Roar God would take over the south sand, to capture the fruits of victory, and also to lighten the burden he bore and emerge as the final victor.

Under Hai Ge’s leadership, after seven days, they arrived at the village of the Ming clan.

The Ming clan was significantly larger than the Xiao clan, where Lu Hong came from. This was fundamentally due to Viscount Le Leng’s conciliatory policy towards the humans within his territory; as long as humans didn’t actively attack the towns, Le Leng would turn a blind eye to their activities in the wild.

Thus, as long as the villagers of the Ming clan didn’t wander alone in the wilderness, they weren’t likely to be captured and slaughtered by orcs.

Seeing the home built by the Ming clan in the valley, Lu Hong could distinctly feel that it wasn’t on the same level as his birthplace, the Xiao clan; his own people were like cavemen, living in mountain caves, whereas the Ming clan had evolved to a more advanced stage with wooden houses and adobe homes.

"Who’s there?!" Ming clan soldiers spotted Lu Hong and his group and blocked their path, eight Ming clan soldiers standing in their way.

"Hold your fire, I am Hai Ge of the Xiao clan."

"Hai Ge?" The soldier had a good impression of Hai Ge, and upon recognizing his face, he sheathed his weapon and smiled, "Is it really you? What is it, has your Xiao clan run out of food again?"

Under the oppression of Viscount Akes, the Xiao clan had tough days and often ran out of food and fodder due to relocation. During those times, Hai Ge would bring some clan members to the Ming clan for help.

"This time we’re just passing through. We’d like to rest for the night here and resupply a bit."

Having stated their intentions, the soldier led Hai Ge and the others into the village.

"Brother Hai, what brings you here?"

At this moment, a woman approached them, her skin extremely fair and her delicate face somewhat enchanting.

Hai Ge quickly introduced her to Lu Hong: "This is Ming Yue, the daughter of the Ming clan leader."

Then he introduced Lu Hong to Ming Yue: "This is Xiao Zheng, the son of the Xiao clan leader."

Ming Yue looked towards Lu Hong and nodded slightly, "So you are the young Clan Leader Xiao, Ming Yue sends her regards."

"Miss Ming Yue, please don’t be so formal; you are the host here. I’d like to ask if my brothers and I could stay for the night, if it’s not too much trouble?"

"Of course, you are welcome to stay as long as you like. The Ming clan’s doors are always open to you."

At that moment, loud cheering could be heard not far away.

Lu Hong followed the sound and saw the crowd gathered ahead, so he asked, "Do you know what’s going on up there? It’s quite exciting."

Ming Yue smiled slightly: "Today is the great day when our Ming clan selects its strongest warrior. If you’d like, you can come with me to watch."

Curious about the Ming clan’s combat prowess, Lu Hong replied, "I would appreciate it if you could lead the way, Miss Ming Yue."

Under Ming Yue’s guidance, everyone reached a prime spot to watch the action. A furious battle was erupting on a dirt-piled ring.

Two robust Ming clan men were fiercely dueling, their hands generating gusts of wind as they struck each other.

The impacts of fists on flesh were thrillingly visceral, even stirring a fighting spirit in Hai Ge.

Seeing this, Ming Yue joked, "Brother Hai, if you’d like to join, I can arrange it."

"Nah, that’s alright, no need. Today is your Ming clan’s election day; I wouldn’t want to impose," Hai Ge waved off repeatedly.

Ming Yue wasn’t bothered at all: "It doesn’t matter. Brother Hai, if you really can teach a lesson to some of our younger generation, it would be good for them to realize that there’s always someone better out there and to curb their arrogance."

"Haha, there are countless strong members in the Ming clan, and I certainly don’t compare," Hai Ge laughed.

As the group engaged in pleasant conversation, a sinister gaze was fixed intently upon them.

At that moment, the competition on the stage was decided, and the victor shouted in jubilation.

The owner of the sinister gaze took advantage of the situation and stepped onto the stage.

Upon seeing the man appear, the face of the recent victor changed drastically, "You... You..."

The winner could not understand why the man before him was stepping onto the arena so early. Was he here to bully him?

The icy man did not even glance at the other, impatiently speaking, "If you don’t want to lose an arm or a leg, get off on your own!"

Even a clay figure has three points of anger, let alone someone who had just won.

"Lord Ming Ze, I’d like to challenge you to see how big the gap between us really is."

"Humph!" The icy man, Ming Ze, glanced at the referee on the stage.

Upon receiving a signal, the referee immediately announced the start of the duel.

As the referee’s words fell, Ming Ze, like a whirlwind, swept towards his opponent.

Although prepared for Ming Ze’s strength, the opponent was startled, hastily retreating to assume a defensive stance.

Ming Ze swung his fist fiercely, striking his opponent’s defense. The intense impact sent his opponent flying off the platform, heavily crashing down and passing out.

Seeing the awe-inspiring Ming Ze, the audience burst into shouts, chanting for Ming Ze’s strength.

As for Ming Ze, he locked his gaze on Hai Ge, speaking in a deep voice, "Mr. Hai Ge, I wonder why you have come to my Ming Clan."

Hai Ge looked at the man on the stage and replied, "Just passing by, Lord Ming Ze need not concern himself."

"Passing by? Not here to borrow grain?" Ming Ze chuckled, "Your Xiao Clan has already declined. I advise you to heed the Clan Leader’s advice and submit to my Ming Clan early."

With those words, everyone could hear the provocation. Hai Ge’s expression darkened as he responded, "Lord Ming Ze need not trouble himself with this."

Hearing this, Ming Ze continued, "Today is the joyous day of selecting the Ming Clan’s Number One Warrior. Since Mr. Hai Ge is here, why not step onto the stage and show us the strength of your Xiao Clan?"

"Since it’s the Ming Clan’s joyous day, how dare a member of the Xiao Clan intrude." Hai Ge declined Ming Ze’s suggestion.

"Coward!" Ming Ze insulted without reservation, "So it is, your Xiao Clan are all a bunch of wimps, no wonder you’re bullied and constantly hiding."

"Ming Ze!" Ming Yue shouted loudly, interjecting, "Stop talking nonsense!"

"Nonsense? My friends, have I said anything incorrect about the Xiao Clan?" Ming Ze looked around; no one in the clan objected.

The Clan Leader of the Ming Clan supported the Xiao Clan twice a year without asking for anything in return. This often added a burden to the Ming Clan itself, engendering dissatisfaction over the years which none dared to voice out of respect for the Clan Leader.

Now that Ming Ze had brought it up, it resonated with many, who began to voice their support, overwhelming figures like Lu Hong with insults.

Hai Ge frowned, unsure how he had offended Ming Ze, but sensed that without fighting today, Ming Ze likely wouldn’t let him go.

"Fine!" Hai Ge said with a low stern voice, "Since Lord Ming Ze wishes to fight, Mr. Hai Ge will not hold back!"

Saying so, Hai Ge leaped onto the stage, confronting Ming Ze directly.

Seeing the standoff, someone from the Ming Clan Leader’s side couldn’t sit still any longer and stood up to intervene.

But the Clan Leader halted him, "I know you are dissatisfied with my unconditional support for the Xiao Clan. If so, why not let this duel go ahead?"

The Grand Elder of the Ming Clan, Ming Jing, bowed to the Clan Leader, "Lord Clan Leader, my son has acted rashly; please forgive him."

"It’s fine. Ze is the strongest warrior our Ming Clan has had in a hundred years. If this fight doesn’t happen, it might settle inside him and affect his growth. But if Ze loses, I hope the Grand Elder will comfort him well and prevent him from losing confidence."

After hearing the Clan Leader’s words, the Grand Elder laughed, "Lord Clan Leader, you jest. Ze will never lose."

Before the words fell, a thunderous roar erupted from the stage, a violent current sweeping around.

Ming Ze staggered back three steps, staring at Hai Ge in astonishment.

Ming Yue below covered her mouth in shock, "How could this be?!"

Hai Ge calmly withdrew his fist, smiling, "I wonder if Lord Ming Ze is satisfied?"

Ming Ze, with a serious face, launched another attack.
