Modern World Warlock-Chapter 275: Lexia and Sixteen
After Imera began working on the medicine for Dante's arcane resonance, Camille made a call to Noria, the director of the NSS, wanting to discuss the events that led to Dante's condition.
Moreover, she also wanted to complain about the agents who refused to work with them after the director herself asked for their support.
The agents wouldn't have been able to enter the city with Dante and his team either way since they didn't have protective talismans, but they also refused to give any information they had gathered.
Noria seemed quite displeased at the news and said that she would penalize the agents. Still, Camille told the director that she wouldn't be able to send any more help to the west side of Novaria for a few weeks.
The handler left out some of the details about Dante saving the soul of Lexia, which she didn't think would be relevant information to the NSS. However, she warned them not to send any agents inside the city.
Meanwhile, Lexia and Sami were both hanging out at the laboratory with Paige and a small group of the Zeta Team.
The scientist wanted to study the key differences between Lexia and Sami, considering that one of them had a demon's soul and the other had a human one.
One night, Lexia restarted her system, which was a standard maintenance routine, and when her mind fell unconscious, Lexia could see herself standing in a pitch-black room.
The woman gazed at her hands and noticed that her body looked the same as it did when she was still alive, and when she looked up, she saw Sixteen standing before her.
"Sixteen… I'm sorry," Lexia muttered with a sad tone, feeling guilty for taking over the android's body.
The android approached Lexia and placed her hands on her cheeks, smiling with relief and surprising the woman with such an expression.
"There is nothing to apologize… I'm glad to share this body with you," Sixteen happily stated.
Imera had told the group that Lexia and Sixteen needed to 'accept' each other for their body to finally become one. However, it wasn't Sixteen who prevented the fusion from happening, but Lexia's guilt.
"Don't you think it's unfair!? I-… I'm not even meant to be here!" Lexia exclaimed.
"That's right, and I'm glad that you are here…" Sixteen replied.
"Lexia, if you would allow me… Let us share this body and this new life together," the android continued, gently placing her forehead against Lexia's.
When the woman opened her eyes again, she noticed that she was still inhabiting the mechanical body. However, something felt different.
Lexia had fully accepted Sixteen's wish to fuse with her soul, and now that they had become one, she could feel her emotions all over the place.
"Good morning, everyone!" Lexia happily exclaimed as she entered the lab.
Paige instantly noticed her mood change and approached her to inquire about it, so Lexia told them the truth and said that her fusion had been finalized.
The scientists and Sami clapped and cheered for Lexia, but Paige was still too curious about the process and began asking her more questions.
"Ohh, that means that Lexia is now a cyborg and not an android!" Sami commented, explaining the difference between the two.
"A cyborg…?" Lexia muttered under her breath.
"That sounds cool," she continued, making Sami smile proudly as she placed her hands on her hips.
'Hehe, it's pretty cool, but not as cool as a Hell-Cyborg…' Sami thought.
A moment later, Alexander arrived at the laboratory, hastily entering the room as he was both curious and worried about his sister.
"Little brother!" Lexia exclaimed, rushing to Alex's side and giving him a hug while climbing on his back.
"L-Lexia, are you okay!?" Alexander worriedly asked.
"Better than ever!" Lexia replied with a bright smile, making the man shed a few tears of happiness.
"Why is he crying?" Sami pondered aloud.
*Sniff* "Sorry, sorry… Talking to my sister after all this time is just surreal to me," Alexander said.
"People cry from that?" Sami asked.
Noticing that the Hell-Cyborg didn't understand Alexander's feelings, Paige decided to give her an example that felt closer to her.
"Sami, how would you feel if Dante never woke up from his coma?" The scientist asked.
"Hmmm…" Sami hummed, placing a hand on her chin, and after a few seconds of pondering, she widened her eyes with fear.
"W-wait… Can that happen?" Sami asked.
"Well, this is a hypothetical question, but I suppose it's not an impossible scenario," Paige replied.
"No, no… He HAS to wake up!" Sami exclaimed. freewebnσvel.cѳm
When the Hell-Cyborg thought about Dante, she felt a surge of gratitude that was almost too overwhelming for her.
If it weren't for the warlock, Sami wouldn't have been able to live her new life—he was like a parent, a guardian, and a teacher to her, making her realize how important Dante was to her.
After she imagined not being able to talk to Dante for years, she began to understand Alexander's emotions. However, the idea that the warlock could take years to wake up soured Sami's mood for the rest of the day.
When their work at the lab was over, Sami passed by the infirmary to check on Dante, finding Sophia and Megan inside, who were wiping the warlock's body with wet towels.
"C-can I help?" Sami asked, and the two women gave her another towel without asking questions.
The mood inside the infirmary was somewhat tense, as the three women wanted Dante to wake up as soon as possible, and their umbra was clearly palpable to Sami.
"He is going to wake up… right?" Sami hesitantly asked.
"I…" Sophia stammered.
"Yes, he will definitely wake up," Megan confidently replied, squeezing the excess water off her towel before she continued cleaning his arms.
While Sami felt a bit better after hearing Megan's assertive answer, her system kept scanning Dante's body, and it didn't seem like he would wake up any time soon. Nevertheless, she decided to stay quiet, as it would ruin everyone's mood even more.
