Modern World Warlock-Chapter 278: The Attack on the South
In the southern area of the country, Lindsey and Curtis, the sibling leaders of the Golden Twilight Syndicate, were sent to the city of Naul by their grandmother, Imera.
Naul was a city on the southwestern side of Novaria, and it was awfully close to the necropolis at Limsa. Fortunately for the GTS, the Lunar Mountain Range that divided the territories made the distance from Naul and Limsa much longer.
Balthazar and the Holy Death Knight, Isidor, had begun their encounter in the north. However, there was no way for the siblings to know of this, as it was happening at the same time as they were scouting Naul.
That night, the siblings were bored out of their minds while hanging out in the penthouse room of a hotel, awaiting more information from their grandmother.
Imera sent the siblings to Naul due to its proximity to Limsa, and while the Golden Fox would've accompanied them, she needed to stay in New Arcadia as it was the hottest spot for an enemy attack.
However, they didn't expect the cartel to think the same, and as Curtis played around with a small, magic flame atop his palm, their room lit up as an explosion across the city caught his attention.
"Lindsey!" Curtis shouted, but his sister was already rushing towards the window.
As Curtis opened the glass panel, the two of them jumped out of the penthouse, and while Lindsey used air magic to propel herself and fly like a bird, her brother produced a couple of potent flames from his hands that allowed him to hover and accelerate in the air.
During their time practicing with the Jade Dragons and the vampires, they realized they were at a disadvantage if their enemies were able to fly, as it gave them more openings to get hurt while also reducing their opportunities to counter.
As a result, the siblings ended up practicing with their grandmother until they were able to fly at a decent pace. Still, they weren't experienced enough to maneuver at high speeds yet.
When the two got closer to the area of the explosion, they looked up and noticed a black veil descending and expanding, prompting them to accelerate as much as possible to make it in before the veil blocked them.
Right as they passed through the threshold, the veil came down and acted as a blockade for everyone in and out of it.
*Tch* "We've heard about these veils from granny…" Curtis commented after scoffing.
"Nobody can leave or enter unless the caster is defeated, or they cancel the spell…" Lindsey continued.
As the two landed atop a building inside the boundaries of the veil, Curtis spotted a surge of mana a few blocks away from them. However, before the two of them could make their way there, another explosion caught their attention, prompting them to look down at the streets.
"BAHAHA! All of these cities are filled with buildings to tear down!" A man shouted as he jumped out of the smoky building, which slowly began to crumble.
"Curtis…" Lindsey muttered, gritting her teeth as they inspected the torrent of violent energy coming from the man.
"I see him…" The blond man replied, jumping down from the rooftop and making his way down to the streets.
Meanwhile, Lindsey kept flying toward the caster who put up the veil, but when she got closer, she stopped mid-air when she spotted his skeletal face covered by a long hooded robe.
As the skeleton turned his head and gazed at the woman, he took a step back, not from fear but curiosity.
"An elementalist? Here!?" The skeleton shouted.
After Lindsey descended atop the roof and stood a few meters away from the skeleton, she felt slightly uncomfortable as she didn't like how the monster looked.
She wasn't inherently afraid of them, but she felt a sense of discomfort when looking at them that made her hate skeletons, even when they appeared in movies.
"What's your name, girl?" The skeleton asked.
'Ew, ew, ew!' Lindsey thought, getting chills down her spine when she heard the skeleton speaking. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
*Ahem…* "Lindsey," she replied, trying to get serious and put her feelings of disgust to the side.
"What the hell are you?" Lindsey continued.
"Hmm? Why I'm a mage, obviously… Ah, I suppose my looks aren't apparent enough, but my aura should've been clear," The skeleton commented.
"I'm Radeon, the Netherlord," he continued.
"I… Don't know what that means, but you are the one who put up this veil, yes?" Lindsey asked.
"That's correct," Radeon replied without hesitation.
As Lindsey took a deep breath, she sharpened her gaze and locked it with Radeon's empty sockets. "I'll need you to stop that right now," she said.
"I see, girl. So, you want to fight?" Radeon asked, but his question was answered as an invisible air slice flew towards him, making him raise his skeletal hand to dispell the magic before it could hit him.
"Sonic blast," Radeon muttered, releasing a powerful sound wave that demolished the entire rooftop.
Fortunately, Lindsey reacted quickly and moved out of the zone before the spell was cast, pointing her palms at the skeleton and sending an intense gust of wind his way that made Radeon harden his stance so as not to get blown away.
'Hmm, could she be a wind specialist? That doesn't seem right… Her aura seems attuned to all the elements,' Radeon pondered.
As if Lindsey had been reading his mind, she waved her hand and produced a fan of flames that shrouded Radeon's view for a brief moment, allowing her to advance at high speeds using the wind to increase her velocity.
When the woman appeared mere centimeters away from Radeon, the netherlord was confused since elementalists wouldn't try to fight at a close distance, feeling a flaming strike on his ribs that pushed him off the building.
Thanks to Lindsey's training with Megan, she had gotten a lot more experienced with close-range combat.
After her grandma recommended that she cover her physical attacks with elemental magic, she was able to create her first spell, which she dubbed "Fire Fist," even though elementalists didn't have to say the name of their spells.
