Modern World Warlock-Chapter 339: Little Bodyguards
After Ronald and the other NSS agents tried to put the harpion twins to sleep with their tranquilizers, they had an instant realization of the difficulty of the task.
Before the young demons could figure out what was truly happening, Ronald spoke up and supported their claims, saying that they were indeed playing a game.
"Since Miss Camille lost, we are going to take her away," the man explained as two agents started carrying the unconscious handler.
The twins shared innocent glances with each other as if reminding themselves of a conversation they had had with Camille hours before their arrival at the checkpoint.
Camille, Saris, and the twins were waiting for the helicopter to pick them up when the handler turned to the children and patted their heads.
"We are going to play a game today. No matter what happens, the three of us have to be in the same room, always!" Camille said to the kids, offering them sweet snacks as a reward.
The woman knew that she was putting herself in danger when traveling to the checkpoint, and the game with the twins was a simple excuse to always have capable guards around her, even though she wasn't a fan of using the children as her bodyguards.
As the kids remembered their "game" with Camille, the two of them jumped from their seats and rushed towards the agents, knocking them down and gently putting Camille back on her seat.
"Heehee, you can't fool us, old man! My brother and I will surely win those snacks!" Amara exclaimed with a prideful expression and her hands on her hips.
Ronald was slightly confused at the girl's words, but he still understood that the kids weren't seriously fighting. They still believed that it was all a game, and when he pondered about the situation, another agent interrupted his thoughts by pointing at the clock in the wall.
'We don't have any more time left…' Ronald thought, looking down with guilt and apprehension.
The threat that Netherius had left with them still hung in the air, and it was obvious to Ronald that the necromancer wouldn't stop at killing the agents who were present, but he would destroy the entire city.
Even the other agents in the room were starting to lose their patience, knowing that their lives were on the line. And, in a fit of panic, they all decided to grab the children while another group moved Camille out of the room.
Of course, none of the agents was a match for the harpion twins, who not only avoided their grabs but toyed around with them by kicking them in the back and making them fall on their faces.
The children were genuinely having fun running around the room and making a mess of the place while Saris somehow kept sleeping on the couch. On the other hand, the agents were progressively getting more frustrated at the fact they couldn't catch two little kids when their lives depended on it.
Suddenly, in a fit of rage and desperation, one of the agents took out his pistol and aimed at Amara, but as soon as the child sensed the man's hostility, the expressions of the twins changed.
From happy and unbothered smiles, their eyes sharpened with a frown, making the temperature in the room go down, sending shivers down the agents' spines.
The man holding the gun hesitated for a brief moment as Amara's crimson eyes stared directly into his soul, prompting the man to pull the trigger and hope for the best.
*Swish!* A torrent of blood sprinkled the shooter's face, making him look down and notice that both of his wrists had been severed from his body.
It happened so fast that none of the agents was able to discern what happened until a few seconds later, seeing the little girl grinning evilly with blood splattered on her face.
The children weren't planning on hurting anyone, but they couldn't control the impulses in their bodies that made them act out of pure instinct.
When the shooter saw his severed hands flopping on the ground, he let out a loud scream of pain and fear, kneeling down with tears rolling down his cheeks.
Some of the agents pulled out their weapons in response, while others stayed frozen in shock, but before the children could turn their attention to their new opponents, Ronald raised his voice and asked everyone to stop.
"Did we win!?" Asher pondered aloud, his cute tone contrasting with the serious situation.
"Y-Yes. You guys won…" Ronald replied, explaining that they had to take Camille away so that they could get their rewards.
"Good try, uncle! We know the rules of the game say that we can't separate from Cami!" Asher said in response.
Ronald gazed at the unconscious handler with a serious expression. 'So, she knew, huh?' he thought.
*Yawn* "What's all this noise?" Saris interjected, making all of the agents in the room turn their heads with concern.
The banshee sat up on the couch and rubbed her eyes with a groggy expression, and while the tension in the room was palpable, Saris seemingly ignored her surroundings as she stretched her arms.
"Saris, we are playing a game!" Asher said, breaking the silence that shrouded the room after the banshee's awakening.
"Hmm?" Saris hummed, her violet eyes carefully scanning the room. "What kind of game?" she asked.
"They go 'pew pew,' and we go 'swish, swish!'" Asher tried to explain, and even with his childish description, Saris still understood what the boy was trying to say.
"I see…" Saris muttered, suspiciously gazing at Ronald on the side of the room.
"Do you people really have time to play around with kids in this situation?" The banshee asked with a sarcastic tone, sharpening her gaze.
Another moment of silence hung in the air as the agents considered their next move. They never expected the twins to be so difficult to deal with, and now they had another more powerful demon pursuing them.
"Well, then. I'll join the game," Saris commented, making the twins beam with happiness while the agents and Ronald frustratedly bit their lips.
