Chapter 50: Chapter 26: Monsters Die When They Are Killed

—Who says you can’t kill a monster with a spear that’s lost its head?

"...GULP!"

On the other side, Su Zhou forcefully swallowed a mouthful of blood. His hands felt as if they might shatter, but he gritted his teeth and struggled back to his feet. He took a deep breath, his face contorted into a savage grimace. In the few short seconds he was breathing, the internal damage to his organs had already completely healed.

However, it was clear that Su Zhou had instantly grown a size smaller. The little fat he had on his cheeks, arms, and thighs had completely withered away, making him look as gaunt and savage as an anatomical model, like a vicious Evil Ghost straight out of Hell!

There was no time for words. The centipede was heavily wounded, likely completely immobilized. Su Zhou immediately picked up the broken elmwood spear shaft and the spearhead engraved with an Exorcism Rune, which had conveniently rolled to a stop at his feet. He took a single, decisive stride, bringing him before the giant centipede. Then, aiming for a crack in its carapace, he stabbed down!

"CRACK!"

Even at this moment, the Wood Centipede still tried to attack. It struggled to raise its head, twisting it around with startling speed. A pair of giant mandibles snapped forward, intent on nothing less than biting Su Zhou in half at the waist.

Squelch.

But the broken Long Spear was faster, pinning it in place, immobilizing it. Su Zhou even brutally twisted the spear shaft inside its skull a few times, producing wet, squelching sounds.

At this, the creature’s body instantly curled up, then violently snapped straight again. But even then, the beast was not dead—the Life Force of an Evil Demon was terrifyingly tenacious. The Wood Centipede’s great mandibles and its many legs were still twitching ceaselessly, its nearly ten-meter-long body thrashing about in a spasm that caused Su Zhou a great deal of trouble.

"Tsk."

The sound of impatience echoed. A faint, bluish-purple light flared in the eyes of the now skeletal Su Zhou. He dropped into a half-kneel and, with his right hand, brutally smashed the giant creature’s head against the concrete floor!

Nearly a ton of force Burst out in that instant. To the sound of splintering bone and the sudden, cloying scent of blood, the Wood Centipede’s already damaged head was more than halfway crushed.

Then, a seemingly crazed look in his eyes, Su Zhou grabbed one of the Wood Centipede’s forward legs, and in silence, forcefully twisted and tore it right off!

Next, he tore off the legs from the first body segment, then the second...

"Hey, this is..."

Watching this savage scene, reminiscent of a wild beast tearing apart its prey, Yara instinctively started to speak.

But in the end, its gaze fell upon the few unidentified skeletons in the distance. It shook its head and, smiling, decided not to intervene. "Never mind. It’s good for him to vent."

’When a young man with a strong sense of justice encounters something upsetting, he’s bound to have some rage and fury to vent.’

"...Hah." 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

Finally, after tearing off the fourteen legs from the front half of the Wood Centipede, Su Zhou ceased his frantic rampage.

He was panting with exhaustion, his face flushed red, and he nearly collapsed right there on the ground.

"How do you feel, Su Zhou?"

Yara slithered unhurriedly from the young man’s hair. It watched the Wood Centipede’s body, which was still twitching but had undoubtedly been utterly defeated. With an amused tone, it asked, "Fighting against ’Evil Demons’ and ’Demons’... were you afraid?"

With no flashlight and no light from the Exorcism Array, the underground sewer was once again plunged into darkness.

And then, laughter echoed from the darkness.

"...Heh... Ha, hahaha!"

First, he caught his breath, then he began to laugh—a full-throated laugh. In response to the Snake Spirit’s question, Su Zhou broke into a gratified smile. He stood up and stomped his foot on the Wood Centipede’s head, making its white brains splatter. "Afraid?"

He ground his heel into its head for good measure and let out a frank laugh. "Yara, this is gonna sound a little crude—but right now, I’m so excited I’m about to bust!"

"See? It doesn’t matter if you call them Magical Beasts, Demon Fiends, or some other messed-up kind of Evil Demon... there’s nothing that mysterious about these things!"

Two points of bluish-purple Spiritual Light flared to life in the dark, damp mist, and from their midst came a young man’s exhilarated voice: "Even if it’s a Monster."

"If you can kill it, it will die!"
