Chapter 275: 271, I am direct only to women who intrigue me.

"Pfft..." Titus Zane laughed out loud, setting down the wine glass on the table, covering her lips with one hand, unable to conceal the hidden amusement in her gaze as she looked down.

After the laughter, she lifted her eyes, where the flickering candle flame mirrored the fluttering heart of the man opposite her.

Wesley Foley stared, entranced, then saw her slightly raise her elegant brows as she asked.

"Are you always this direct?"

Looking into Titus Zane’s eyes brimming with mirth, Wesley’s handsome face took on a serious expression, his gaze misty with the dancing candlelight, appearing earnest.

"I’m only direct with women my heart stirs for."

Titus Zane...

The smile lingered on the corner of her lips; in the flickering candlelight, she saw in the man’s eyes across from her... fidelity.

Instinctively she dropped her gaze, her thick, curled lashes concealing the emotions at the bottom of her eyes.

Some unease and reluctance too, because of her real purpose in getting close to the man opposite.

She was no saint, yet she understood the word ’conscience’.

She felt no guilt for the tasks she’d taken on before.

Those men were nothing like him, each one a libertine, their covetous intentions towards her written all over their faces.

In bed, they’d tirelessly toy with her sisters in different ways, as if they wanted to tear them apart and devour them!

She didn’t know if it was her not completely extinguished conscience being reawakened or just the continuation of her routine.

Titus Zane lifted her gaze, her beautiful European eyes meeting Wesley’s directly, and she said, "I’m not worth it."

Having said this, she still locked eyes with Wesley, her earnest demeanor tinged with apparent sorrow, whether she was too deep into her role or genuinely moved by compassion, even she couldn’t tell.

"You are worth it!" The three words spilled from Wesley’s lips, along with his earnest, steadfast gaze, resounding deeply.

Silence ensued as Titus Zane looked down, picking up her knife and fork, using her own quiet to hide the struggle within.

Wesley wasn’t the kind of man to chase after someone desperately; some things needed time to consider, like revealing his true feelings to the woman across from him and giving her time to digest it.

He wasn’t a fickle man, nor did he have the time for romantic dalliances, but perhaps he was too direct, because meeting a woman who stirred his heart wasn’t easy, and he didn’t want to miss it.

In the past thirty-eight years, he had been in love with his career, a tireless and passionate affair.

But now he was tired, suddenly wanting to try a new way—finding a woman who moved his heart and experience a true romance, feeling as if only then the void inside him could be filled.

The room was silent, both immersed in their dinner, the atmosphere in the dining room growing somber after the recent interlude.

After dinner, Wesley Foley took Titus Zane back to her hotel. She got out of the car before he could move, stepping out ahead of him.

But as she turned to leave, he called out to her.

"Carry!"

Titus Zane stopped and turned back, her face hazy under the neon lights.

With delicate eyebrows, a shapely nose, full lips, and the puzzled lift of her eyes, she exuded an enticing allure.

Wesley got out of the car, slamming the door behind him, his steady steps and warm gaze locked on Titus Zane.

And her gaze followed him in turn.

Standing in front of her, the attractive man looked down, his gaze falling on Titus Zane’s face, he lifted his arm, his long fingers adjusting her shawl, tightening it around her, then he spoke, his thin lips parting slightly as the words tumbled out.

"I’ll wait for your answer."

He wasn’t the type to pester endlessly, but with his age, he couldn’t afford to wait too long.

Those few words, his earnest persistence.
