Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride-Chapter 953 - 949: How Could I Bear to Refuse Someone as Handsome as You
"Ten thousand dollars!"
It was clear how shrewd Nicholas Croft was just from Sophie Foster’s tense posture, showing how conflicted she was at this moment. Singing in a nightclub doesn’t earn much, so he simply offered a high price. If you want to catch a woman, you have to be willing to pay. Ten thousand dollars is just the price of a bottle of wine, not to mention he enjoyed how this little kitten was itching because of him.
Sophie took a deep breath, abruptly turned around, blinked, and confirmed, "Just to drink with you?"
"Hmm-hmm," worried about scaring the little kitten away, Nicholas Croft didn’t dare tease her anymore.
Pretending to be bashful, Sophie sat back down and, smiling sweetly at Nicholas Croft, said, "Actually, I have my principles. I only sing, I don’t drink with people. But if you invite me for a drink, that’s different. How can I refuse someone as handsome as you, mister?"
Nicholas Croft realized that the little kitten in front of him had a charming mouth. Clearly, she was getting a great deal and was also putting him on a pedestal.
Blowing out a cloud of smoke and glancing at the foreign liquor on the low table, he said, "Go ahead and drink."
Sophie rubbed her small hands together as she looked at the half glass of Hennessy and said, "Then I won’t hold back!"
Without waiting for Nicholas Croft to say anything, she reached out her little paw, grabbed the glass, and downed it in one go.
Such good wine shouldn’t go to waste, especially when it’s free and there’s money to be made. Thinking about how she’d soon be able to earn three months of rent, Sophie felt her future brighten.
Drinking a bit too quickly, Sophie crinkled her face as she put down the glass, continuously exhaling, her adorable appearance making Nicholas Croft’s heart itch. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
"What? Too strong? Not used to it?"
With a flick of his dark eyes, Nicholas Croft asked lightly. Sophie giggled mischievously, "No, just drank too fast."
She licked her lips after speaking, but her gaze fell on the cigar between Nicholas Croft’s teeth.
"Want to take a puff?" Nicholas Croft raised the cigar and arched an eyebrow; the little kitten’s thoughts were written all over her face.
He noticed that his attractive appearance seemed to have less effect on this little kitten than the half-smoked cigar in his hand.
Like a chicken pecking at rice, Sophie nodded and laughed, "Afraid you’ll waste it if you can’t finish it."
Though there were a few more cigars in the tin box on the low table, Nicholas handed his remaining half to Sophie.
"Thanks," Sophie giggled as she took it. After a puff, she slowly exhaled the smoke, repeating this several times before pressing the cigar into the ashtray.
"Why not finish it?" Nicholas Croft asked, looking amused. Sophie exaggeratedly crinkled her nose, "Too strong, smoking too much can make you dizzy."
Just like strong liquor, too much cigar smoke can also make someone feel dizzy and nauseous.
Picking up the bottle, Sophie poured the foreign liquor into an empty glass and handed it to Nicholas Croft, "Handsome mister, how should we drink? By guessing or just sipping leisurely?"
Nicholas Croft leaned lazily on the sofa without taking the glass, motioned to the spot next to him, "Sit here."
Sophie was a carefree girl who never made a distinction between genders. In school, she could be buddies with the boys, but now... if she really sat over there, it would be no different from keeping him company.
Laughing it off, she said, "Handsome mister, I’m perfectly fine sitting here. Distance makes everything more beautiful."
A playful look appeared on Nicholas Croft’s face. He suddenly realized that the little kitten in front of him was quite clever, seemingly concerned he might do something inappropriate. He nodded without forcing, "Go get another glass."
"Yes, sir!" Sophie laughed as she got up and soon came back with a clean glass.
