Chapter 73 -73 Well-behaved, I’m an adult, not a kid_1
“I know.” After a while, she uttered those three words indifferently and then hung up the phone.
When Mu Yingchen told her that woman was assigned to him by his grandfather, Wanxia knew the person’s background wouldn’t be simple. She believed it wasn’t Mu Yingchen’s intention, but hearing this news still made her heart uncontrollably clench—such an uncomfortable feeling.
She let out a long sigh and once again pulled the blanket over her head.
On the other end, after Su Wanxia hung up the phone, Ji Hua was pacing back and forth frenetically—what in the world were Big Brother and Wanxia doing? It was clear they cared about each other to the point of death, yet they both put on this carefree facade for who to see? And now, suddenly, this white lotus appeared, which would be much harder to handle than that Ding Nianzi.
He genuinely hoped that Wanxia could be with his big brother, but these two seemed to always drop the ball at critical moments. It was maddening to watch.
Looking through the pale golden curtains at the two people laughing and chatting in the living room, he let out a defeated sigh and let his shoulders sag.
He had originally come to see his big brother today, but he hadn’t seen Mu Yingchen anywhere. Instead, what a shock it was for him to find this white lotus showing up at the Mu Family home. After asking a servant, he learned that this woman would be living here from now on.
He scratched his head and dialed Mu Yingchen’s phone.

“Hmm?”
“Big Brother, where are you?”
“East Suburb Villa,” Mu Yingchen said indifferently, voicing the four words.
“Oh, why are you there?” Ji Hua frowned, aware of the villa that was close to Wanxia’s home. It was purchased by Mu Yingchen six years ago specifically and had remained vacant since then, because after Wanxia went abroad abruptly, his big brother had stopped mentioning the place.
“Anything up?”
“Yeah, I’m coming to you.”
After hanging up the phone, Ji Hua drove to the East Suburb Villa where Mu Yingchen was.
Once he arrived, he scanned the area. The villa’s courtyard was immaculate, with every plant professionally trimmed, and water in the fountains flowing with a gurgle; the swimming pool’s water clear and clean. It didn’t look like a place that had been unoccupied for six years. He nodded in approval—it seemed someone was maintaining it regularly.
“Third Young Master!” Two servants came out.
“Where’s my big brother?”
“The young master is in the study,” one of the servants replied respectfully.
“Got it, carry on with your work,” Ji Hua waved them off and strode inside.
The study was on the second floor. Ji Hua didn’t bother knocking and just pushed the door open. Seeing Ji Hua’s flustered entrance, Mu Yingchen looked up from the computer, his brow slightly furrowed.
“Big Brother, why did you bring that white lotus—uh, Bai Yudie, home?” Ji Hua asked Mu Yingchen with a puzzled face.
Mu Yingchen glanced at him and then lowered his eyes back to the laptop, “It wasn’t my idea.”
“It wasn’t your idea?” Ji Hua probed further.
“Hmm,” Mu Yingchen didn’t even look at him, merely responding indifferently.
“This is bad!” Ji Hua exclaimed.
“What’s wrong?” Mu Yingchen continued to look at the computer as he spoke.
“Today, in a moment of agitation, I told Wanxia,” Ji Hua said with diminishing confidence.
Mu Yingchen’s actions with his laptop suddenly ceased, and he swiftly lifted his head to stare at Ji Hua, “You—”
“And she just said ‘I know,’ then hung up the phone,” Ji Hua continued, becoming increasingly anxious. He thought it was his big brother’s lapse in judgment that had the woman placed in the house, but it turned out that it wasn’t his big brother’s intention at all.
Mu Yingchen snapped the laptop shut, put on his jacket without a word, and made his way downstairs.
Ji Hua originally wanted to follow, but just as he was about to leave, Mu Yingchen said, “Don’t bother with it,” and then he drove away from the villa.
After receiving the call from Ji Hua, Su Wanxia lost the desire to sleep, so she got up to wash and freshen up.
She usually got up late on Sundays, so her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Su, didn’t wait for her to have breakfast. They typically let Auntie Liu place the breakfast in the thermal box for her to eat when she got up.
But this morning, she had no appetite at all. She didn’t want to eat anything. After changing into casual clothes and putting on a baseball cap, she greeted her mother and left the house.
She just felt a bit suffocated and wanted to go for a walk to clear her mind.
The early autumn weather made the sky exceptionally blue, and the rustling autumn breeze slightly dispersed some of the troubles in her heart.
She sighed helplessly, her hands in her pockets, wandering aimlessly along the road.
Though she wanted to stay by his side forever, she couldn’t bear to see him marry another woman. What would she do if that day truly came?
Catching a maple leaf that fell with the wind, she held the red leaf up high against the sun, and suddenly, the dazzling sunlight was blocked.
She curled the corners of her lips in bitterness. Mu Yingchen was like a beam of sunlight in her life, yet always obscured by various things, preventing her from ever having his warmth.
The autumn wind knocked leaves from the trees and lifted the hair at her temples, also silently sweeping across the bitterness at the corner of her mouth.
It was a beautiful scene, yet tinged with sadness.
A twinge of heartache crossed Mu Yingchen’s heart. Why did her smile always carry a hint of inexplicable sadness, an indescribable sense of loss? Why did he feel that she was hiding many secrets deep within her, and was it really just an illusion?
He had planned to visit her home, but unexpectedly, he saw her at the intersection.
He parked his car by the roadside, quietly approached her from behind, and then gently reached out to take away the red maple leaf in her hand.
Lost in thought, Su Wanxia didn’t notice anyone approaching her. When the leaf was suddenly taken from her hand, she didn’t react at first. Only when the blinding sunlight suddenly pierced her eyes, did she realize and turned around in a slight panic.
Upon seeing who was behind her, she felt a moment of disbelief. Had the sunlight dazzled her eyes? Otherwise, how could he have appeared before her so suddenly?
“Wanwan,” Mu Yingchen’s voice was soft.
Surprise flickered in Su Wanxia’s clear eyes, “Achen?”
“Hmm.”
“Why are you here?” Su Wanxia asked in confusion.
“Then why are you here?” Mu Yingchen countered.
Only then did Su Wanxia look around and realize she had unconsciously walked to the crossroads.
“Uh, I just wanted to take a walk,” she said, her tone slightly unnatural.
Mu Yingchen knew what was on her mind. He reached out, pulling her into his embrace, “Wanwan, that wasn’t what I meant.”
She understood his words.
“I know. I’m not blaming you,” Su Wanxia pushed down the bitterness in her heart and spoke gently, knowing that the woman staying at his place must be there at the request of either his mother or his grandfather.
“I’m now living at the East Suburb Villa, not far from here.”
Su Wanxia looked up, surprised, “You moved out?”
“It’s all the same where I live,” Mu Yingchen said indifferently.
“What about your mother…” Su Wanxia began, then hesitated.
“Shush, I’m an adult, not a child,” Mu Yingchen spoke indulgently.
It didn’t sit well with Su Wanxia that to spare her feelings, he had actually moved out of his home, this man.
