Mr. Sterling, Mrs. Sterling is Multifaceted!-Chapter 238: Not Coming Home for Dinner
"Idiot."
Selena Quinn didn’t even want to look directly at the woman. After thinking for a while, she added, "Then why doesn’t she have handcuffs on her hands?"
She remembered that everyone from Veridian Isle had been handcuffed to prevent them from blending into this side of the world, and those handcuffs were made of a special material that couldn’t be removed.
Mia Redgrave was stunned for a moment and said with difficulty, "I’m also puzzled by this, but she only has a jade bracelet on her wrist."
"Could it be that you never sent her in?" Selena Quinn frowned.
"Impossible!" Mia’s breathing became a bit rapid, "My father said he personally supervised those people putting handcuffs on Seraphina Redgrave."
Mia didn’t know why Selena suddenly asked these questions, but she still answered thoroughly.
Where did those handcuffs go?
Selena’s mind was a bit chaotic. She began to sink into her own world of thought, pacing back and forth.
Could Big Brother have known Seraphina’s true identity and found a way to help her remove the handcuffs?
Sss—no, that’s not right.
To remove the handcuffs, at least a layer of skin would have had to be peeled off. How could there be no trace at all?
Bracelet!
Selena suddenly realized; it must be because of that bracelet! Seraphina purposely wore it there to cover the handcuffs underneath.
Seraphina was indeed quite meticulous in her scheming, but so what? It didn’t change the fact that she was the lowest of the low.
With this thought, Selena no longer paid attention to Mia, turned around, and went upstairs. As she walked, she took out her phone, deciding to let Ethan know this news.
Big Brother had been with Seraphina for so long, and it turned out this woman had escaped from Veridian Isle. Disgusting.
Big Brother had become tainted as well.
As Selena was about to dial the number, a sudden flash of insight stopped her in her tracks.
There’s a problem.
Big Brother couldn’t possibly let down his guard around those close to him. With his abilities, finding out Seraphina’s identity would be a piece of cake.
The only possibility was that Big Brother had given his tacit consent.
With this thought, Selena felt a bit dizzy.
Had Big Brother lost his mind?
He would rather have the lowest of the low by his side than spare a glance at her, his life-saving benefactor.
In any case, she had to drive Seraphina away. Seraphina didn’t deserve to be by Ethan’s side!
But Big Brother was closely watching Seraphina, and she couldn’t find an opportunity to act.
Selena leaned against the wall, clenching her fists tightly, her long nails digging into her palms, drawing blood.
The pain was nothing; moreover, it served as a reminder for her to be cautious in choosing her next move.
What exactly was Seraphina’s purpose in coming out? She had done so much; there had to be a motive.
She established The Defiance Society, led the common people against the conglomerates, joined the Public Law Association, and now seemed to be preparing to run for council.
What was all of this for? 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Selena looked at her palm, a deep thought flickering in her eyes.
Now that fate had allowed her to discover this secret, she had to be patient, take it slow, and ensure a decisive hit!
To make sure Seraphina could never rise again.
Slower.
More steady.
Exactly, she couldn’t be impatient; she had to thoroughly investigate Seraphina’s current plans.
...
Night fell.
During dinner time, Seraphina sat alone at the dining table, with no sign of Ethan.
Since Ethan hadn’t come home, Seraphina invited Nanny Lynch to join her at the table.
Nanny Lynch, holding a bowl, kept glancing toward the door. It wasn’t until they were almost finished eating that she realized Ethan wasn’t coming home for dinner tonight.
Then Nanny Lynch became even more worried.
"Miss, have you been having disagreements with Young Master Sterling lately?"
Nanny Lynch asked worriedly, the food tasting bland in her mouth.
Seraphina sat on the side, scooped a spoonful of the egg custard, and recalled the phone call in the car earlier in the day.
Actually, she didn’t feel there was any disagreement. Ethan had asked her to advance the plan quickly, while she wanted to take her time, and that was it.
So Seraphina shook her head, "There’s no conflict; it should just be that the company is too busy."
The egg custard was really tender.
Seeing Seraphina’s indifferent attitude, Nanny Lynch showed a bit of disappointment, "Miss, don’t you think it’s strange? Even if the young master was busy, he would always come back to have dinner with you. But suddenly he’s not coming tonight. Don’t you feel it’s unusual? Isn’t there the slightest bit of sadness in your heart?"
"It’s not like he’s eating with me; he has to eat too."
Seraphina didn’t see the problem; it seemed Nanny Lynch was overthinking things.
"Oh, Miss, the young master never used to come back for meals, but since he’s been with you, he’s been coming back every day." Nanny Lynch put down her chopsticks, frowning at Seraphina.
"..."
Seraphina paused slightly, her chopsticks hovering over the dishes, a trace of something strange flitting through her heart, but she remained silent.
Nanny Lynch shook her head, "Miss, one day you’ll realize how painful it is when a man doesn’t come back to have dinner with you."
"Is it really that serious?"
It’s just a meal, it wasn’t as if she couldn’t eat without him.
Seraphina truly felt it wasn’t a big deal, while Nanny Lynch seemed a bit helpless, "Oh well, Miss, you’re smart but always a little oblivious in matters of the heart. But perhaps that’s good; at least you won’t overthink and bring distress upon yourself."
Although the young master would undoubtedly feel unhappy.
"..."
Seraphina was somewhat embarrassed by Nanny Lynch’s fussing, and continued eating on her own.
After dinner, Seraphina returned to the study to begin her work.
The work piled up around her was from the Law Council, The Defiance Society, as well as her studies, keeping her quite busy.
Fortunately, Seraphina was efficient.
After finishing, she stretched, glanced at the clock; it was already midnight.
In the past, Ethan would have already dragged her to bed by now.
Seraphina packed up her things and returned to the bedroom.
It was pitch black, cold and lonely. She turned on the light in the room; the dark bedspread lay smoothly on the large bed, untouched.
Ethan still hadn’t returned, it seemed the company indeed had a lot going on recently.
She took a simple shower, slipped into bed, reached out to turn off the light, and the room returned to darkness.
This darkness seemed endless, as if trying to swallow her whole.
Lying in bed, Seraphina wondered about what Nanny Lynch had said earlier—would she feel uncomfortable?
In truth, it wasn’t discomfort, more like an emptiness.
Often she was held tightly in the man’s arms beside her, but today, suddenly, she wasn’t.
Seraphina quickly stopped this train of thought, thinking how nice it was to have the entire bed to herself; usually, it was difficult even to breathe.
She closed her eyes, trying to fall asleep.
The moon slowly climbed up the branches.
"Mm..."
Seraphina was awakened by a feeling of suffocation.
She groggily opened her eyes, seeing a shadow by the bed, and instinctively readied to strike with her palm.
That person held down her hand and deepened the kiss.
The familiar aura—the man was Ethan.
