Mr. Sterling, Mrs. Sterling is Multifaceted!-Chapter 242: One Year Is Enough
Seraphina Redgrave didn’t pick up the pen and paper. Her hands tightly gripped the hem of her clothes, not speaking.
"Hurry up."
Zachary Zane urged in a relaxed tone.
Seraphina took a deep breath, picked up the pen, and noted down word for word the address he mentioned.
"I’m really happy. Escaping from Veridian Isle is the one thing I never regretted in my life." Zachary laughed heartily, as if to prove he was truly doing well.
"Also, you have a sister-in-law now. She’s really pretty, her eyes are this big!" Zachary gestured as he spoke.
"Really?" Seraphina didn’t show much excitement.
"Why would I lie to you? She really loves me. Even knowing I’m from Veridian Isle, she didn’t mind, living with me in a tiny rented room, often cooking delicious meals for me."
Zachary’s expression was filled with happiness, it seemed he was truly in love with this girlfriend. Suddenly he sighed, "But it’s my fault, I couldn’t make much money, couldn’t give her a rich life. Later, she fell in love with a rich guy."
Seraphina was stunned by the turn of events, frozen in place.
Once she recovered, Seraphina’s face showed a fierce expression, "So, did she report you?"
"Yes."
Zachary spoke without resentment, just saying, "It’s all my fault, for always thinking about her, pestering her. So later, her boyfriend had someone beat me up, and then they dumped me in front of the police station."
Never expecting such a plot, Seraphina clutched the pen, almost wishing to kill that pair, "Their names and addresses, Brother Zack, give them to me."
Zachary understood Seraphina’s feelings and even tried to counsel her, "Seraphina, don’t go looking for her. No matter what, she was a woman I deeply loved. She’s kind and beautiful, living a life of poverty with me would have been hard for her too."
Seraphina didn’t speak, just felt hate.
Zachary saw her still looking like she wanted to kill someone, frowning and saying, "Seraphina, listen to your Brother Zack."
With a snap, Seraphina unexpectedly broke the casing of the ballpoint pen in her hand.
"Food’s here!"
The prison guard who had left earlier returned with the meal.
Zachary immediately put some distance between himself and Seraphina, both composing their emotions as they watched the guard walk in with a tray from outside, carrying a very simple chicken leg meal.
The rice looked a bit dark, as if it wasn’t freshly cooked, and even the chicken leg seemed tough, like it had no seasoning, along with a few pieces of greens, very meager.
Seraphina was a bit angry, having given so much money, and this was the kind of meal served?
She could barely suppress her anger, while Zachary indifferently picked up the chicken leg and put it in his mouth.
"Mm, not bad."
The prison guard saw he was being sensible, snorted coldly, and turned to leave.
Zachary took another bite, mumbling as he spoke to Seraphina, "Still remember I like chicken legs, huh?"
Seraphina looked down at the broken pen in her hand and asked, "Brother Zack, I’ll take you out now, do you know where the keys to your handcuffs and shackles are?"
"I’m not leaving."
Zachary continued biting on the chicken leg, looking indifferent and calm.
"Are you going to give up your precious life for a woman like this?" Seraphina’s tone cooled, she didn’t think this was a masculine act.
"Seraphina, when you fall in love with someone, you’ll understand why." Zachary was willingly resigned.
"Actually, dying isn’t a big deal, it’s better than being trapped on Veridian Isle for a lifetime. She was willing to share half a year of her life with someone like me, and for that, I’m very grateful."
Seraphina interrupted him coldly, "What do you mean by lowly? Are people from Veridian Isle born inferior? Why?"
Zachary knew his words had upset Seraphina, hurriedly saying, "No, no, I misspoke."
"Seraphina, I really don’t want to leave, please understand."
Seraphina couldn’t understand his thoughts at all, she just said, "Then I’ll knock you out and take you out."
"Seraphina, I’ve seen you on TV, you’re so famous, so outstanding, how could I not notice?"
Zachary gave a bitter smile, with a hint of loneliness in his voice, "I’ve collected all the news about you, but I’m also someone who escaped from Veridian Isle, I know what you want to do, so I can’t drag you down."
His life wasn’t worth mentioning, if dying meant nothing. But the weight Seraphina carried was thousands of lives from Veridian Isle, and he couldn’t become her obstacle.
"You won’t hold me back."
Seraphina just left that one sentence, since Zachary didn’t want to leave, she would drag him out.
Seraphina stood up, planning to deal with those two prison guards.
"Seraphina Redgrave."
The smile finally faded from Zachary’s face, this was the first time he called her by her full name since they met.
Seraphina paused.
"You know how big the risk is of taking me out. With surveillance everywhere here, if you get me out, everything you’ve done will be in vain."
Zachary wore a serious expression, "I hope you can continue with your plans, don’t let one life derail so many people. Even if in the end you can’t save them, I absolutely can’t implicate you."
Her life was far more valuable than his.
Complex emotions filled Seraphina’s eyes, a person flashed in her mind, "I have a friend, extremely powerful, he has a way to get you out safely and keep me safe."
In this urgent moment, there was no time to plan carefully, she needed to get him out quickly.
Zachary was a bit surprised since Seraphina had always been independent and relied only on herself, was she not just comforting him with lies? 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
He leaned back, making a gesture of refusal, "Seraphina, don’t waste your energy, everyone from Veridian Isle knows their fate, dying is really no big deal."
She knew this was how people from Veridian Isle thought.
But hearing Zachary say it so indifferently still made her feel uncomfortable.
"This year, Brother Zack, I’ve lived well, and that’s enough. I’ve taken high-speed trains, ridden bicycles, eaten pasta and cake, even experienced love, it’s truly enough." Zachary spoke seriously, as if he really no longer desired anything else.
He genuinely felt that way.
Such things might be ordinary in most people’s worlds, but one year was enough for him.
How ironic.
"No."
Seraphina looked at him, her voice firm and full of conviction, "No."
"Seraphina, don’t be so stubborn."
Zachary took another bite of the chicken leg, ultimately giving in, speaking softly, "Are you really going to save me?"
Seraphina nodded, "As long as you do as I say, you’ll definitely escape safely."
"Won’t you first collaborate with that big shot and make some preparations?" Zachary joked, "Otherwise, we might get shot the moment we step out."
This is a prison break, not child’s play.
