Chapter 631: Chapter 631: I Won’t Interfere

When Vanessa Sterling received the notice of her release, she still stayed in the police station, unwilling to leave, almost incoherently insisting that she herself had committed murder.

She didn’t want to go back, nor did she dare return.

Upon learning that Miles Sterling was rescued, fear had already begun to creep into her heart, wondering if the methods Miles used on her would reach a new level of cruelty.

She was terrified; she would rather stay in a prison without freedom, where at least Miles wouldn’t be.

And going back to that place — how was it any different from prison?

Moreover, she feared that going back this time might really lead to her dying at Miles Sterling’s hands.

Vanessa Sterling sat inside the police station, unwilling to leave, feeling somewhat more at peace staying there.

If Miles Sterling really came looking for her, at least someone in the police station would be there to help her. But once she returned, no one would know about her ordeal. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

That kind of fear and helplessness was despairing.

"Miss."

Startled, Vanessa Sterling looked up and saw the middle-aged man in front of her — the driver normally responsible for Miles Sterling’s outings.

"The Young Master instructed me to take you home."

Vanessa Sterling shrank back, clearly resistant to the idea of going home.

"Miss, take advantage of the fact that the Young Master hasn’t lost his temper yet, and come back with me. You know the consequences of defying him."

Vanessa Sterling shook her head in fearful defiance, like a deep-seated fear driving her resistance.

The driver sighed, displaying patience as he continued, "The Young Master is already processing his discharge from the hospital, and if he comes to fetch you himself, he might not be as calm as he is now."

Vanessa’s expression seemed blank, as if she hadn’t recovered from the shock, her whole demeanor looking dazed. She didn’t appear to register the driver’s words, her mind seemingly fixated on one thought — she cannot go back.

The driver was helpless, unable to forcibly take Vanessa Sterling away within the precincts of the station.

After lingering for a while, the driver had no choice but to call Miles Sterling, informing him of the situation here.

Miles Sterling didn’t offer any solutions or issue any orders; he merely hung up the phone without saying a word.

The driver felt conflicted looking at his phone, thinking Miles Sterling should be coming over.

Just as he put away his phone, he saw a familiar car parked outside the police station. Noticing the person stepping out of the vehicle, the driver immediately approached, "Mr. Quentin, what brings you here?"

Quentin Sterling shut the car door, striding towards the station as he asked, "Came to handle some matters. Why are you here? Did Miles cause trouble again?"

"No... I’m here to take the Miss back."

Quentin Sterling paused mid-stride, initially reacting as if Vanessa Sterling was in some trouble, intending to express concern but then recalling the manipulations Vanessa employed on him, he asked coldly, "What’s wrong with her?"

The driver pursed his lips, seemingly at a loss for where to begin.

Without waiting for an answer, Quentin Sterling spotted Vanessa Sterling curled up in a corner.

Her condition looked very disheveled; her hair a bit tousled, her face streaked with tears, making her usually fair face appear grimy.

Her clothes seemed thin, a set of pajamas under her cotton coat, dried blood stains on her pants, and a pair of fuzzy slippers on her feet, like she’d left in a rush.

Despite seeing Vanessa Sterling’s helpless state, Quentin Sterling had no intention of going over to show concern.

When Vanessa saw Quentin Sterling, her moist eyes suddenly lit up, her feet reflexively extending forward as if to stand and seek her sole sense of security.

However, seeing Quentin’s indifferent gaze turn away, Vanessa Sterling stiffened, the words "Uncle Quentin" caught in her throat.

The light in her eyes dimmed, pulling her feet back into a self-protective posture, watching Quentin Sterling head straight down the hallway.

Franklin Sutton, learning Quentin Sterling had arrived, set aside his work to find him, "President Sterling, the young girl outside must be your relative, right? She seems to be scared, refusing to leave despite our persuasion. It’s so cold outside. Could you take her back with you later?"

Quentin Sterling glanced in the direction of Vanessa Sterling, asking, "What’s the matter?"

Franklin Sutton replied, "She’s in some conflict with her brother, claiming she killed him. We investigated, and her brother is indeed being rescued in the hospital but is not in life-threatening danger. Her brother isn’t filing a report, saying it’s family business and asking us to release her, but we did, yet she won’t leave."

Quentin Sterling knew of Miles Sterling’s bullying of Vanessa from before, but that was when they were children. He’d thought Miles’ mischievous nature was just prankishness, and their interactions had dwindled as they grew older; he didn’t know what their relationship was like now.

But Vanessa’s issues were none of his concern, so Quentin Sterling, after a moment, said, "They’ll handle it themselves. I’m not getting involved."

Franklin Sutton’s expression was slightly startled, seemingly surprised by Quentin Sterling’s words, but not knowing the Sterling family dynamics, he didn’t press the matter further.

Thinking of Laura Yates and Audrey Sutton’s conversations on the phone, Franklin Sutton hesitated about whether to have someone take the young girl to his home, where Laura and Audrey could at least soothe her.

With this thought, Franklin Sutton fished out his phone, about to make the call when noises from outside the station drew his attention.

He promptly went out to check, seeing Vanessa Sterling startled like a frightened bird, terror unfolding across her face as she got up to hide but tripped on a half-human-high vase in the corner, nearly falling. Fortunately, a passing female officer steadied her, preventing a fall.

From the hallway, Franklin Sutton emerged, following Vanessa’s gaze, seeing Miles Sterling walking towards the station.

He was dressed in clean clothes, a white bandage covering the wound on his neck, his lips slightly pale, and he appeared somewhat weak, but the sharp menace in his eyes hadn’t diminished.

Miles Sterling ignored everyone, approaching Vanessa Sterling step by step, while Vanessa fearfully hid behind the female officer.

Seeing this, Franklin Sutton stepped forward, blocking Miles Sterling’s path with a smile, "Young Master Sterling, out of the hospital so soon?"

Miles Sterling didn’t reply, his gaze bypassing Franklin Sutton, speaking coldly to Vanessa Sterling, "Are you coming or not?"

Vanessa swallowed hard, her emotions already unstable, becoming more timid with Miles’ arrival.

The female officer advised Miles softly, "Your sister might be scared; treat her with some kindness, don’t frighten her."

Miles Sterling sneered, "Scared? Because I’m still alive and standing in front of her?"
