Chapter 66: Chapter 66: Thank You

Lan Irving looked at Audrey Sutton’s outfit and couldn’t help but give her a once-over.

Audrey Sutton smiled warmly and took the initiative to greet him, "Secretary Irving."

Lan Irving retracted his scrutinizing gaze and responded without much emotion, "Hello, ma’am."

"Is my husband still in a meeting?" Audrey Sutton deliberately chose "my husband" instead of "your President Warner."

Lan Irving nodded and replied in a business-like tone, "The meeting is just halfway through."

"Then I’ll wait for him in the office." Audrey Sutton strutted out of the elevator in her high heels, exuding the confidence of a beauty pageant winner.

She could lose to anyone but Lan Irving.

Once in Shane Warner’s office, Audrey Sutton took out her phone, snapped a picture of his office, and sent it to him, captioned: "Guess where I am."

A "ding dong——" sounded in the meeting room.

Shane Warner shifted his gaze from the projection screen to his phone, and upon seeing the message, frowned slightly before replying, "Why are you here?" 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

Soon another photo came from her side, depicting a lunchbox. The food inside looked a bit messy but still quite appealing.

Just the thought of her waiting in his office for him to have lunch made Shane Warner lose focus on the meeting.

He abruptly interrupted the manager speaking on stage, saying, "Let’s take a twenty-minute break; we’ll continue after that."

With that, Shane Warner stood up, phone in hand, and walked out of the meeting room.

With Shane Warner suggesting a break, everyone in the meeting room let go of some tension.

Yet, they were all quite surprised, as their meetings never typically allowed for a break, and nothing ended until everything was addressed.

Shane Warner walked straight to his office, pushed open the glass door, and saw Audrey Sutton examining a display case of previous jewelry exhibits on the right wall of the office.

He was about to ask why she came over in such heavy rain, but upon seeing her outfit, he instead asked, "Why are you dressed like that?"

Hearing his voice, Audrey Sutton turned, glanced at him, then lowered her head to look at her professional attire, replying with a question, "Does it not look good?"

Shane Warner looked at her slightly damp hair and asked, "Did you get caught in the rain?"

"It’s a long story. You should eat first, or it’ll get cold, and we can talk while you eat." Audrey Sutton then asked him suspiciously, "Weren’t you in a meeting?"

Shane Warner sat by his desk, opened the lunchbox, picked up the chopsticks, and simply replied, "Taking a twenty-minute break."

"Then hurry and eat. I packed the food nicely, but some soup spilled out. It’s not a big deal, though. Try it quickly."

Shane Warner picked up the chopsticks, eating while asking, "How did it spill? Did you trip?"

"More or less. I was almost at the company’s entrance when I slipped. Luckily, the food didn’t spill, or you wouldn’t have anything to eat now." Audrey Sutton didn’t dare mention she’d been hit by a car. Otherwise, he’d likely nag her, and maybe even take her to the hospital for a check-up, which she found cumbersome and would disrupt his work.

"Disobedient. I told you not to come in the rain."

Audrey Sutton retorted mischievously, "... It wasn’t raining when I left."

Shane Warner took a deep breath, continued eating the warm meal, and said without looking up, "Thank you."

Audrey Sutton was momentarily stunned, then curled her lips into a smile.

His "thank you" made her little accident worth it.

However, saying "thank you" seemed a bit distant. In her opinion, truly loving couples shouldn’t differentiate between each other, let alone say thanks.

Shane Warner pushed a cup next to her and said, "Get some warm water."

Audrey Sutton responded with an "oh" and promptly went to the pantry with the cup.

When she returned with the cup, she saw Shane Warner put down the chopsticks, take out two medicine bottles from the drawer, pour some pills into his hand, and hand them to her, saying, "Take these to prevent a cold, don’t end up frying your brain again."

Audrey Sutton chuckled inside, forgetting the injury on her hand, and reached out to take the pills from him.

By the time she realized she wanted to switch hands, Shane Warner had already noticed the wound on her hand, holding it and asking, "Is this recent?"

Unable to avoid it, Audrey Sutton softly responded, "Yes."

Shane Warner took a deep breath and placed the pills in her palm, "Take the pills first."

Audrey Sutton put the pills in her mouth, watching him walk into a small room and return with disinfectant and gauze, sitting on the low sofa by the coffee table, and while dipping a cotton swab in the medicine, said to Audrey Sutton, "Come here."

"Hand open."

The cold medicine applied to her palm’s wound stung slightly, but her heart was filled with sweetness.

After cleaning the wound, he gently wrapped her hand with white gauze.

Audrey Sutton pursed her lips and asked, "... Doesn’t this feel familiar?"

"What?" He glanced up at her.

Audrey Sutton shifted her gaze nervously, then chuckled and shook her head, "Nothing."

"Silly." He murmured low, continuing to wrap the gauze.

He had probably long forgotten those events. To him, she might have just been a passerby who didn’t stay in his memory.

"Mr. Bishop, please wait in the office for a moment; President Warner is still in a meeting." Accompanied by Lan Irving’s voice, the office’s glass door was pushed open from the outside.

Seeing Shane Warner bandaging Audrey Sutton’s wound, Lan Irving paused momentarily as Julian Bishop entered.

Only then did Lan Irving change his address, "President Warner, Mr. Bishop is here."

Shane Warner nodded, lightly smiled, and said to Julian Bishop, "Have a seat anywhere."

"Are you..." Audrey Sutton recognized Julian Bishop.

Julian Bishop recognized Audrey Sutton when he entered, not expecting the coincidence.

"Do you know each other?" Shane Warner asked Audrey Sutton.

Lan Irving stood by the door for a couple of seconds, left thoughtfully, closing the door.

Julian Bishop nodded, answering for Audrey Sutton, "We met once."

Shane Warner, cutting the gauze with scissors, casually asked, "When did you meet?"

Audrey Sutton glanced at Julian Bishop and softly answered, "... Just now, at the company entrance."

Julian Bishop sat on an empty sofa, coolly stating, "It was raining heavily, and Uncle Winters didn’t notice and almost hit the young lady."

Shane Warner’s brows instantly furrowed, looking up at Audrey Sutton, "You didn’t tell me the truth?"

How could Audrey Sutton have known they were friends and such a coincidence would occur?

Shane Warner split the gauze ends into two and gently tied a knot, releasing Audrey Sutton’s hand, and asked, "Are there any other injuries?"

Audrey Sutton shook her head, "The car didn’t hit me. I just accidentally fell when avoiding it. Nothing else happened."

"Your wife?" Julian Bishop asked.

Shane Warner nodded and introduced simply, "Audrey Sutton. Just call her Audrey."

Julian Bishop glanced at Audrey Sutton, his deep brown eyes hiding some unfathomable emotions.
