Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 662: I’m Not a Good Person
Jasmine Lucas waited in the agreed-upon Western restaurant for over two hours. They were supposed to meet at ten in the morning, but now it was almost noon, and still no sign of Miles Sterling.
She wasn’t really there for a blind date anyway, so she wasn’t too anxious. In fact, she figured Miles Sterling probably wouldn’t show up.
Having skipped breakfast before heading out, Jasmine Lucas was already starving. Seeing that Miles was taking so long to arrive, she called over the restaurant waiter and ordered lunch from the menu.
While waiting for her meal, she took this opportunity to update Seraphina Vaughn about the situation. Seraphina feared that if they didn’t meet this time, the persistent matchmaker wouldn’t give up easily. She didn’t want to expend any more energy on this matter, so she also casually mentioned it to her mom, wondering what the Sterling family might intend.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Vaughn, engrossed in her card game, clearly wasn’t concerned about her daughter’s blind date. After about ten minutes, she only tossed a phone number to Seraphina, telling her to call and ask herself.
Seraphina then passed the number to Jasmine Lucas, who promptly dialed it. The call connected but was immediately hung up from the other end.
"What the hell?" Jasmine cursed, tossing her phone aside, then picked up a spoon to start eating the dessert the waiter had just brought to the table.
Convinced she had been stood up, she planned to leave after filling up.
When the food she ordered was finally brought to the table, she followed the pre-meal ritual of taking a photo and posting it on her social media. Just as she put the phone down to start eating, she heard sounds near the room door.
Thinking it was the waiter returning, she was surprised to see the waiter merely stand at the door with a respectful gesture, signaling someone outside and saying, "Mr. Sterling, it’s this room."
Then, she saw a man with a face as sour as a toilet walk in. Seeing the woman in the private room, he immediately frowned and turned to ask the waiter closing the door, "Are you sure this is the right room?"
The waiter paused for a moment, then explained with an awkward smile, "This is Room Number Six, and I recall when this lady arrived, she said she was looking for a Mr. Sterling, so it should be correct, right?"
Jasmine Lucas nodded with a smile, "That’s right, that’s right, thank you, kindly close the door behind you."
The waiter smiled and pulled the door shut. Miles Sterling frowned and asked, "Why is it you?"
Jasmine Lucas smiled sweetly, "I didn’t expect it to be you, uncle. Come on, have a seat!"
Jasmine’s previous pure look hadn’t impressed Miles Sterling, so today she dressed a bit more maturely.
With the cold weather, she didn’t dress too sexy or revealing, going for standard blind date attire. She looked graceful and intellectual, yet her words still suggested she was an immature girl.
Miles Sterling came only due to Wendy Jennings’ pressure, just to mark attendance.
Jasmine picked up a wine glass and poured a drink for Miles, smiling a bit awkwardly, "...It feels a bit awkward to call you uncle now, I didn’t expect my blind date would be you. How old are you?"
Miles responded evasively, "Once you’re done eating, just leave. If your family asks, just say we are not compatible, or that I’m not your type."
Jasmine pouted reluctantly, "But I kind of like your type, uncle, you look so cool and aloof. I was worried I’d meet a dirty old man, but seeing you makes me so happy."
Miles Sterling, being familiar with women’s circles, appeared indifferent to such young girls’ confessions.
Jasmine, on the other hand, was very proactive: "I heard from my mom, your name is Miles Sterling, so can I call you Miles?"
Miles seemed impatient, frowning, "Just eat your food and stop talking nonsense."
Jasmine pouted in dismay, "But my mom said, going on a blind date is all about talking to understand each other’s situation."
Miles took a deep breath, picked up the menu, and started looking through it.
While cutting her steak, Jasmine asked, "What hobbies do you usually have?"
"Can you cook?"
"Do you like traveling?"
"How many relationships have you been in before?"
Faced with a barrage of questions from Jasmine, Miles ignored them all. After finalizing his choice from the menu, he pressed the call button on the table, requesting a waiter to place his order.
Seeing Miles completely ignoring her, Jasmine drooped her eyes and asked, "Uncle, do you not like me?"
Miles closed the menu and finally rested his gaze on Jasmine’s face, asking expressionlessly, "Have you heard of me before?"
Jasmine thought for a moment, then shook her head with a puzzled look.
Miles asked, "Who sent you on this blind date?"
Jasmine: "My mom."
Miles: "Who introduced us?"
Jasmine: "A friend of my mom."
Miles: "The person who introduced you is not a good person, and I’m not a good person either, so after this meal, just pretend we never met."
Jasmine’s mind whirled, "Uncle, are you talking about your scandals? Actually, I’ve heard about them, but I don’t think they’re a big deal. Who doesn’t have a past? It’s all just fun and games, right? I’m sure you have your reasons and hardships. Besides, I don’t think you seem like a bad person."
Miles chuckled mockingly at her words, "You seem naive and clueless about the world. I don’t have time to deal with kids like you. Eat quietly, and do as I told you when you get back."
After that, no matter how Jasmine tried to make conversation, Miles paid her no more attention.
He ordered just a steak, which he quickly finished, drank a couple of sips from his wine glass, then stood up, saying, "I’ll go settle the bill downstairs. Remember what I told you, just make up an excuse and tell your family we’re not compatible."
Jasmine felt somewhat frustrated, internally reflecting on whether she had used the wrong approach. Could it be that this man preferred less proactive women?
Or perhaps he liked women who were even more direct, who took discussions straight to the bedroom?
Jasmine concluded it was probably the latter. However, given her current image, transforming into a femme fatale in front of him now would likely arouse his suspicion. Besides, this man was unpredictable and seemed prone to violence, so he wouldn’t listen to anything she might say when he’s angry.
Thinking it over, Jasmine felt it was best to approach his younger sister instead.
This day, Audrey Sutton had quite a fulfilling day.
Mainly because she thought about Shane coming back tomorrow, everything she did felt delightful.
She confirmed the time with Shane, saying he’d arrive at the airport around eleven in the morning, and they agreed she’d pick him up from the airport.
While sleeping at night, Audrey dreamt about him, and about some not-so-innocent things...
