Chapter 692: Chapter 692: So You Mean I’m Useless

When Audrey Sutton said this, Shane Warner mischievously placed his hand on her waist: "Then..."

Audrey Sutton brushed his hand away and playfully scolded him, "Then what? I’m still in my recuperation period!"

Shane’s smile grew deeper: "Then I’ll hold you and take a nap. Where were you thinking?"

Audrey blushed and said, "Move over a bit, don’t wake up our son."

Shane: "Once he falls asleep, we’ll put him in the crib."

Audrey: "He’s still nursing! Let him sleep a bit longer, otherwise, any movement will wake him up."

Shane: "It’s such a hassle just to take a nap."

Audrey looked at him and said, "It’s been just a month, how do I feel like you’re getting tired of our son?"

Shane snorted: "Every day there’s this little bulb, feeding and providing for him, and he’s still fussing daily. What’s wrong with being tired of him?"

Audrey laughed and said, "You have a tough exterior and a soft heart, can’t say anything nice. He better not take after you, or he’ll struggle to find a wife."

Completely unaware of his parents discussing him, Anna gradually stopped sucking and drifted off to sleep peacefully.

Audrey slowly withdrew her arm and saw Shane lying beside her, seemingly asleep as well. She quietly got up and went to the bathroom.

Coming out, she saw Shane had moved their son to the crib by the bed, gently rocking the crib as he watched their son, who stirred briefly before settling back into a deep sleep.

Audrey whispered to him, "I see you’re not tired, still have energy to fuss."

Shane reached over and wrapped his arm around Audrey’s waist: "It’s still early, you should sleep a bit more."

Only when the baby was asleep could Audrey have some time to herself.

Shane held her and closed his sleepy eyes, while she leaned back against him, using her phone to check in on Sister Phoebe.

Phoebe King sent over a picture of her daughter, a chubby little face looking adorably cute, jokingly saying to Audrey, "Thankfully she doesn’t have my dark skin."

Phoebe was discharged three days later, and although her baby was born early, she was full-term and healthy, looking plump and very cute.

The two women recovering from childbirth often visited each other to chat. A month seemed not too long or short and passed by without noticing.

Audrey felt that this month had passed much faster than when she was recovering from her previous miscarriage.

Three months later.

First-time parents Shane and Audrey gradually got used to their son’s routine, and life started to fall into a rhythm.

Shane often said he couldn’t help much with childbirth, but he could certainly help with child-rearing.

Audrey’s milk supply was insufficient, and she had to wean him before reaching three months.

Previously, when their son cried for breastfeeding at night, Audrey had to be woken up.

Now that he’s on formula, whenever Shane heard the baby cry, he immediately took him downstairs to prepare a bottle to spare Audrey from being disturbed.

Preparing formula, changing diapers, and soothing the baby to sleep... Shane had become proficient at these tasks.

During those first few days back home, whether due to the hot weather or adjustment to the new environment, the baby hardly managed to sleep peacefully at night and would wake up with even the slightest disturbance.

Nowadays, the little guy almost only wakes up for one night feed and remains calm at other times, no longer as restless.

Watching their son grasping the bottle and drinking eagerly before slowly closing his eyes.

Shane continued wandering downstairs with the baby, ensuring he was sound asleep before heading upstairs.

Gently placing the baby in the crib, seeing his wife and child sleeping so peacefully always filled him with contentment.

With Shane’s attentive care, Audrey indeed had much less to worry about as a mother.

Shane didn’t want Audrey to abandon her girlish nature simply because she’d become a mom. He hoped she’d still indulge in playfulness, act coquettishly, and rely on him when she could.

Mid-October, a delightful autumn indeed.

The weather was just right, neither too cold nor too hot.

The ’Art Watch’ organized an author conference event, and Audrey, tied down with the baby for so long without outings, felt tempted.

She made some new friends through ’Art Watch’, and their discussions in the group chat were lively. She was as eager as a child about a school field trip.

However, since the baby was born, he was always under the joint care of Audrey and Shane, without hiring a nanny. She was unsure if Shane could handle the baby alone while she was away.

During breakfast, Audrey hesitated but told Shane, "Honey, there’s an annual company event next week..."

Shane paused his eating, looked up at her confusedly, and asked, "Do you need to donate money?"

Audrey rolled her eyes: "Annual event! Why would I donate money?"

Shane: "Then why are you mentioning this?"

Audrey chuckled, but before she could answer, their son in the cradle started to fuss.

Shane got up at the sound, went over to the crib and gently rocked it, seeing his son staring up with big eyes and nibbling on his fingers, seemingly awake, he picked him up and sat back at the dining table, glancing at Audrey, "Is there an event at the annual meeting? You want to go and have some fun?"

Seeing Shane had guessed it, Audrey smiled coyly, nodding like a pecking chick.

Shane kept a poker face as he gently stopped his son’s hand from messing with the food in the bowl and said flatly, "If you want to go, just go."

Audrey looked at him, unsure if he was serious or joking, and asked him, "Can you manage our son on your own while I’m not at home?"

Shane scoffed: "You speak as if you were worrying about our son while at home, just taking him outside to swing under the sun or soothing him to sleep. What’s there to manage?"

Audrey felt her role was being dismissed and furrowed her brows in dissatisfaction: "So basically, I’m useless."

Shane nodded: "You could say that, especially now that he’s weaned, doesn’t make a difference if you’re home or not."

Audrey knew about Shane’s sharp tongue, knowing he probably said this just for her peace of mind to go out and play, so she didn’t argue further. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

She earnestly suggested: "If I were to go, I’ll probably be back in just two days, maybe we should ask Auntie Linton to come over for a couple of days, just to help with the meals."

Shane: "You just go, don’t worry about other things. You’ve been cooped up at home long enough, it’s time to get out and stretch a bit."

Audrey smiled happily and said, "Thank you, hubby. It’s been a while since we traveled, now that the baby has grown, and the weather’s still mild, perhaps when you’re free from work, our family can go on a trip."
