Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 830: Mutual Respect
Norman Sutton stood at a distance, watching Lana Holloway and her group chatting and laughing as they walked towards their parking spot.
Barry Barrett took Simon Sue and his friends to the RV she lived in herself, while Lana Holloway headed directly to the food truck parked next door.
The food truck staff were mostly off duty already, but there was still a lot of food prepared in the cabinets that just needed to be heated in the microwave.
"Impressive, looks quite domestic."
While she was adjusting the microwave, a cold voice suddenly appeared behind her, scaring her into shaking the hand turning the knob.
Turning her head, she saw it was Norman Sutton. She rolled her eyes and continued adjusting the microwave.
Norman Sutton leaned against the table, sarcastically saying, "I wonder why you rejected me. Turns out you like that type, huh."
Lana Holloway had long learned to let Norman Sutton’s words go in one ear and out the other; otherwise, she would have been driven crazy by him.
"Some people, not only have poor brains, but also poor vision. You really wonder how they got this far in life."
Lana couldn’t resist retorting, "If some people hadn’t been born in wealthy families as young masters, they’d probably have gotten themselves beaten up a long time ago just by their mouths alone!"
Norman Sutton glanced at Lana, "Oh? Fighting back now?"
Lana echoed his sarcastic tone, "I wouldn’t dare argue with Young Master Sutton, but some people shouldn’t take things personally."
Norman Sutton gave a cold snort, "Do you have to use that tone with me?"
Lana chuckled, turned to look at Norman Sutton, and asked, "What tone does Young Master Sutton wish I use?"
Norman Sutton suddenly became serious and said to Lana, "I think we need to have a good talk, about the art exhibition before..."
"Lana! How’s it going? Need any help?"
Barry abruptly barged in, interrupting Norman Sutton’s unfinished words. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
After getting in, Barry noticed Norman Sutton was there too, and seeing the angry glare from Norman Sutton, she realized she might have come at the wrong time.
Lana replied, "No need, it’s just some cold dishes, I just need to heat them in the microwave. I’m not sure what they like, so I just heated a few dishes randomly."
Barry said, "No worries, they’re not picky when they’re hungry, they’ll probably eat ravenously and won’t taste much of anything."
Feeling the hostile gaze from Norman Sutton, Barry indeed felt a bit overwhelmed and immediately headed outside. "I’ll leave this to you, I’ll go check over there and bring them over for dinner later."
Lana nodded, "Okay."
After Barry left, Lana turned her back, reaching up to open the cupboard overhead, intending to take out bowls and plates.
On tiptoe, she looked up at the position of the bowls, which was slightly too high for her. She stretched up with effort, ready to grab them, when she felt Norman Sutton’s body come close from behind her. Then, she saw him reach over and easily take down the bowls from the cupboard.
She hadn’t forgotten his unfinished words earlier and asked, "About the last art exhibition, it was a bit rushed, even for me. But afterwards, haven’t you calmed down for quite a while? What are you thinking?"
She accepted the bowl he handed her, grabbed chopsticks, and headed to the dining table.
It wasn’t that she wasn’t answering, but she hadn’t figured out how to answer.
Norman Sutton stayed close behind her, following her to the dining table, and pressed further, "Are you just planning to keep dragging this out with me?"
Lana placed the bowl on the table, then turned to look at Norman Sutton, bit her lip thoughtfully, and seriously said, "I also want to know what you really think."
Norman Sutton frowned slightly and said, "What I think? Haven’t I made it clear enough to you? I’ve even proposed to you, and you still don’t know what I think?"
Lana responded blandly, "In that casual manner of proposing? Also, how do you perceive me? When you say you like me and want to marry me, shouldn’t you really consider whether you’ve respected me?"
Norman Sutton was left a bit confused by Lana’s questions, momentarily speechless.
As if trying to recall when he hadn’t respected her.
He hadn’t even realized that his thoughtless words, which he might forget right after, stung like sharp words to her.
But those hurtful words were etched into Lana’s heart.
How could she believe the words of love from a man who constantly attacked her self-esteem?
The microwave sounded a countdown, and Lana walked over, using gloves to take the heated food inside to place on the table, then said to Norman Sutton, who was still standing by the table, "Respect is the prerequisite for liking someone. I hope Young Master Sutton understands that first."
Norman Sutton explained, "You know the things I said were just heated words; did you really take them seriously?"
Lana took a deep breath, gathering the courage to voice what she’d been holding in for a long time: "Your bad temper and unpleasant words are faults you need to correct, not something others should endure from you, nor an excuse for your arguing!"
Her usually gentle tone turned so serious that it left Norman Sutton’s mind buzzing for a moment.
Because in his past, he never realized it, nor saw it as his fault.
Seeing Norman Sutton’s reaction, who seemed to have taken it in somewhat, Lana, understanding his prideful nature, chose not to say the harsher truths she had in mind, instead returning to preparing the table.
Norman Sutton suddenly asked her aloud, "So if I change, will you then accept my proposal?"
Lana paused, hesitated for a couple of seconds, then continued walking towards the kitchen counter, softly replying, "Let’s see after you’ve changed."
Though she wasn’t sure if by then, Norman Sutton’s heart would still be set on her.
But those were indeed the areas in him that needed improvement, which would benefit his future life too.
As for whether they would have a future together, it all remained uncertain.
Suddenly, Norman Sutton seemed enlightened, realizing at once the direction he needed to work towards.
His path cleared, his mood lifted significantly.
He immediately caught up, asking Lana, "Is there anything you need my help with?"
Lana tilted her head to glance at him, seeing Norman Sutton’s change in attitude, she naturally didn’t speak harshly anymore, calmly saying, "Get a bottle of red wine and some glasses ready. I’m not sure if they want to drink, so just prepare."
Norman Sutton promptly turned to fetch them but then seemed to suddenly realize something, muttering quietly, "Why do I have to serve them dinner?"
Yet seeing Lana’s softened attitude towards him, seemingly reconciling, Norman Sutton didn’t dwell on it further, dutifully bringing the wine over, as asked.
