Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 89: Your Grandpa Loves Your Grandma Very Much
"You go wait in my office first, I need to go downstairs for a moment," Shane pointed towards his office, speaking to Audrey Sutton.
Audrey glanced in the direction he pointed and said, "I want to go down with you and have a look around your workplace."
Shane wasn’t sure whether she wanted to see the environment or check for suspicious female secretaries around him, but he didn’t reveal her little thoughts, instead, he led her down the stairs via the safety passage.
They went down just one floor to Lucian Quinn’s office.
Audrey stood outside the office waiting for him, and it happened to be closing time, so a group of well-dressed young men and women came out from the neighboring office one after another.
Audrey specifically glanced at these young ladies in business attire, suspecting whether the company recruited people according to model standards, each one with fair skin, beautiful appearance, and long legs.
Handling just one Lan Irving was already challenging, now it felt like dealing with a whole crowd of Lan Irvings.
However, she still trusted Shane quite a lot, even a woman as outstanding as Clarissa Morgan couldn’t catch his eye, let alone these small employees.
"Who did you set your sights on this time?"
Upon hearing Shane’s voice, Audrey withdrew her gaze and pretended not to understand what he said, smiling playfully at him, "Are we done? What are we eating tonight?"
"What do you want to eat?"
"...I feel like eating shrimp."
"No."
"Then... shall we go to the food street? There’s so much delicious food there!"
Lyren Lane.
This is the most famous food street in Rivia, and many tourists from out of town even come here attracted by its reputation, it’s always bustling with people.
Audrey grabbed onto Shane’s sleeve, as if afraid he’d get lost, she pulled him along while surveying the food stalls on either side.
At this moment, her eyes were only on the food, while his gaze remained fixed on her.
If not for accompanying her, he might never come to such crowded places to eat those things he considered unhygienic.
"The mashed potato stir-fry here smells particularly good, you queue here, I’ll go over there to buy bubble tea."
Shane frowned, feeling once again like he’d been left behind.
It was as if he’d gone back to that time at the comic con, wondering if she was messing with him again.
He looked ahead, there were still seven or eight people, a few more quickly joined the queue from behind.
The alley was inherently narrow, very crowded, very chaotic, and very noisy, and there was an oily spicy scent everywhere.
He turned to see Audrey squeezing into the bubble tea shop nearby, and she quickly disappeared from sight since she was small.
Shane frowned even deeper.
Nearby, a few young girls seemed to recognize him, holding their phones from a distance to take pictures.
"Young man, how many portions do you want?"
His turn in line had arrived, Audrey hadn’t returned yet, so Shane thought, they hadn’t even explored half of the street yet, given her temperament, potato mash wouldn’t be enough.
"One portion."
The vendor quickly packed a bowl for him in a small paper box, "Five bucks."
Shane: "..."
While scanning the QR code for payment, he thought, this girl should be easy to care for, at five bucks per portion, she might eat two portions at most per meal. Just ten bucks per meal; she could eat ten meals a day.
He went to find her with the mashed potato when she came out of the shop with two cups of bubble tea.
He couldn’t fathom why she loved drinking this stuff so much—he thought she was foolish from drinking too much bubble tea.
"Here, this new flavor is especially fragrant, give it a try."
As someone who exercised, seeing all these high-calorie foods on the street was quite distressing.
But it was rare to take a stroll with her, he didn’t want to dampen her spirits, he could just exercise for two hours afterward.
He only wanted to ensure she had a good time.
They also bought octopus balls, fried tenderloin, skewers that might not even be lamb, and the most intolerable for him were the stinky tofu.
The night consisted of greasy foods, spicy flavors, and iced bubble tea—he wondered if her stomach could handle it.
In the end, she finished his cup of bubble tea after he had only taken two sips.
"Burp—so full."
"Have you weighed yourself?"
Audrey rolled her eyes at him, "You’re so annoying!"
Complaining that he’s talking about taboo topics, yet she immediately asked him, "Do you think I’m fat?"
"Don’t you have a sense of whether you’re fat or not?"
Audrey thought Shane himself liked fitness, so he probably had high standards for women’s bodies.
Although she wasn’t considered fat, she didn’t have the toned lines from exercising, like the abs Crystal Wilson had which she didn’t.
Men sometimes say nothing outwardly, but secretly compare their wives to other women, possibly scoring negatively in their hearts and gradually reducing their affection...
"I want to join you in your workouts from now on!"
Shane looked at her disdainfully, "You could only stick to it for three days."
Audrey: "What if I surpass three days?"
Shane: "I’ll agree to one request, and you can ask for anything."
Audrey: "You promise!"
Shane: "I promise, you can note it down in your little notebook when we go back."
On the way back, Audrey was already thinking about what request she should make to him.
She suddenly remembered something and turned to Shane as he drove, "By the way, I sorted out the clothes from your suitcase... and placed them in your room."
Shane immediately asked, "You didn’t snoop through my stuff?"
Audrey guiltily turned her gaze away, saying, "Why would I snoop through your things? I just put the stuff in and left."
Shane smiled without saying a word.
Later that night, Shane went for a stroll in his gym, which was equipped with the usual workout gear he used. Audrey spent a few minutes running on the treadmill, but feeling hot and tired, she went to take a shower.
Although Shane personally enjoyed working out, he didn’t require her to also enjoy it, just believing some exercise was beneficial for her health. Since she was enthusiastic about it, he certainly wouldn’t discourage her.
The next morning, there was a 10 o’clock flight to her hometown. Upon landing, they had lunch at the airport and took a ride to the dock.
The ferry ticket time was at two o’clock in the afternoon.
"Is this where you grew up?"
Audrey nodded, leaning on the railing, gazing at the sunlit blue sea shimmering with golden light, and turned to ask him, "It’s beautiful here, isn’t it?"
The wind blew her long hair and the hem of her white dress. When she asked this question with a smile, Shane felt a flutter in his heart as he replied, "Yes, it’s very beautiful."
Not sure if he was talking about the scenery, or her.
"It’s even more beautiful on the island, I guarantee you, after one visit you’ll want to come again. The island used to not be very affluent; everyone mainly relied on fishing, my grandfather was a fisherman. Later, he married my grandmother, who liked flowers, so he took all his savings to leave the island and rent some land for flower farming."
"Initially, the market was bad, he lost a lot of money, but eventually, with city development and greening efforts, it slowly became prosperous. Later, my father took over and expanded the business widely, eventually leading to what it is today. Then some investment was made, and grandma encouraged islanders to start flower farming too. Over time, it became a tourist destination, residents stopped fishing and rebuilt their old homes into guesthouses, and now they collect rent."
After hearing this, Shane wasn’t fazed by the business acumen leading to wealth but commented, "Your grandfather really loved your grandmother."
