Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 93: Jasper Jones’ Date
Not sure how he used to spend his birthdays, he probably celebrated with his friends, right?
If she planned some surprise for him alone, he might not even have the time to accept her invitation.
The balcony’s glass door wasn’t closed, so the soundproofing wasn’t very good.
Shane Warner’s voice while talking on the phone on the balcony reached her ears.
While saying she didn’t want to pry into his privacy, with the opportunity right in front of her, Audrey Sutton couldn’t control her feet, sneaking to the window, hiding behind the curtain, hearing his light voice saying, "I’m not in Rivia right now, maybe some other day."
After a few seconds of pause, Audrey had no idea who was speaking on the other end, only hearing him reply, "Okay, pass my greetings to Miss Morgan."
Miss Morgan? Clarissa Morgan?
Audrey’s heart skipped a beat, wondering who could be calling?
Before she could figure it out,
Shane Warner hung up the phone, and there was no more sound.
She stood frozen and thoughtful for a few seconds, then his voice sounded again, "Finish your drawing and go to bed early, stop lurking around all day. If you want to know something, just ask me directly."
Audrey Sutton: "!"
When she realized she was discovered, she poked her head out to look, but his figure was already gone from the neighboring balcony.
Audrey Sutton sighed, thinking, since he knew she was eavesdropping and didn’t mind, it meant the conversation didn’t involve anything shady.
The next morning.
Audrey was woken by the phone ringing, grabbed her phone to check, it was an unfamiliar number not saved in her contacts.
"...Hello?"
A man’s voice came through, "How late is it, you’re still asleep?"
Audrey raised her eyebrows in confusion, "Who are you?"
"You can’t tell by my voice? It’s Jasper Jones! I got your number from Luna, wanted to ask you for a favor."
Audrey suddenly understood, rubbed her sleepy eyes, and with a smile asked, "Is it about Vanessa?"
"Our Audrey is a smart one. There’s an animated film just released recently, I saw Vanessa was quite interested in it on X, so I thought, could you help me ask her out?"
"I’m at my parents’ place right now, if you like her then ask her out yourself, why are you so cowardly?" Audrey said righteously about others, not realizing how timid she was in front of the person she liked.
"She and I don’t have much contact usually, suddenly asking her out for a movie feels abrupt, and I’m afraid Vanessa won’t come. You’re her close friend, she’d definitely come if you ask her."
Audrey: "But I’m not in Rivia right now, how about we wait for school to start?"
Jasper chuckled, "How about this, you say you’re asking her out, and I’ll wait for her at the cinema. I’ll explain to her then."
"It’s not right to deceive her like this, what if she gets mad?"
Jasper: "She won’t, I’ll explain it to her clearly. Please Audrey, help a guy out, I’ve been single for over twenty years, it’s not easy."
Audrey hesitated, "...Alright, if Vanessa gets angry and messes up your plan, don’t blame me."
"No worries, it’ll be fine, just tell Vanessa it’s 2 PM at Rivia International Cinema."
After hanging up, Audrey texted Vanessa, who readily agreed and told Audrey she was planning to watch the movie herself.
Despite lying, Audrey still felt a bit uneasy because she thought if such a thing happened to her, she might not be happy if it was a guy she didn’t feel anything for, even if she liked him.
But thinking about the last camping trip, Vanessa and Jasper seemed to get along well, even if Vanessa hadn’t considered getting closer as boyfriend and girlfriend, she probably wouldn’t get angry and leave.
Beside the river, in a high-rise building with scenic views.
Vanessa stepped out of her room, ascending the spiral staircase, knocked on a door on the right side of the hallway.
"Knock, knock, knock —"
She appeared slightly nervous, stood awkwardly outside the door, waited for half a minute, and no one opened.
As she raised her hand for a second knock, the door opened from inside, Miles Sterling stood at the door in his bathrobe, frowning slightly with an unhappy expression, "What’s up?"
Before Vanessa could speak, a pair of slender, fair hands wrapped around his waist from behind, a coquettish voice sounded, "Miles, who is it?"
Miles laughed and pulled the woman to his chest, teasingly saying, "So impatient? Can’t hold back?"
Though it wasn’t the first time seeing such a scene, Vanessa still didn’t know where to place her gaze, seeing the woman’s overly sexy attire, quickly opened her mouth to state her business.
The woman’s voice chimed in again, "Miles, you’re so annoying, I just don’t want to waste time being with you, if you keep stalling, I’ll have to go catch my flight."
As the woman snuggled in Miles’s embrace, she threw Vanessa a playful look with an undertone of challenge.
Miles nonchalantly pushed the woman against the door, as the half-open door slammed heavily against the wall due to his force, laying wide open, he kissed the woman’s brow and eyes, casually glanced at Vanessa, his tone tinged with the couple’s suggestive behavior, "As usual, buy two boxes, regarding your matter after we’re done."
Watching the increasingly intense entanglement between the two, Vanessa blushed and hurriedly turned to go downstairs.
Vanessa changed clothes and went to the convenience store downstairs, every time came she felt like a thief, head down picking two boxes of Durex from the shelf.
She took out the spare change she had prepared, too shy to look at the shopkeeper’s potentially strange gaze, finished paying and rushed out.
Back in the house, she could still hear the woman’s panting from downstairs.
Reluctantly walking upstairs, she slipped her hand into the door rift, placed the two small boxes on the cabinet by the door, then quickly turned to leave.
Over an hour later, Vanessa heard the sound of high heels descending the stairs, it should be the woman’s departure. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
After ten more minutes, footsteps approached her door.
Without knocking, Miles directly opened her door, looking at her writing and drawing at the desk, asked, "What did you want earlier?"
Vanessa glanced back at him, he seemed content and in a good mood.
"...I want to go out this afternoon."
Miles leaned against the door, lit a cigarette, puffed and asked, "Where to?"
Vanessa carefully watched his expression and said, "To watch a movie."
"With whom?"
"Audrey."
He slowly exhaled smoke, then said, "Go ahead."
He stood up straight, turned to leave, paused suddenly, asked again, "Which cinema?"
Vanessa honestly replied, "Rivia International."
He nodded, said nothing more, and walked away.
Vanessa finally relaxed, gently closed the door, and started packing her things.
