Multiple Personalities-Chapter 456: Mist
The beast glared at the three in front of it, letting out a roar before charging at them violently. Its speed was extremely fast, and in the blink of an eye, it was upon them. Lin Yu reacted quickly, sidestepping to evade the beast's first attack. But the beast gave him no time to recover, swinging its claws at Lin Yu once more. Lin Yu hastily raised his longsword to block, and with a "clang," the sword collided with the beast's claws, sending sparks flying. Lin Yu felt a huge force hit him, making his arm numb and nearly causing him to drop his sword.
Seizing the opportunity, Shen Jingqi circled to the back of the beast and at the right moment, aimed his dagger at it. However, the beast seemed to detect his attack and suddenly whipped its tail.
Li Baiyu launched an attack, a beam of light shooting towards the beast. Yet the beast deftly dodged, turning to pounce on Li Baiyu. As she quickly retreated, the beast's claws still grazed her arm, instantly leaving a wound from which fresh blood flowed.
"This isn't working, we need a strategy," Lin Yu shouted, his heart filled with anxiety.
Shen Jingqi watched the beast, rapidly thinking about a counteraction in his mind.
Li Baiyu formed seals with her hands again, shooting beams of light at the beast. Enraged by these beams, the beast roared incessantly, charging towards Li Baiyu. Lin Yu and Shen Jingqi seized the moment, quietly moving to the beast's sides, waiting for the perfect opportunity to deliver a fatal blow.
As the beast was about to reach Li Baiyu, Lin Yu and Shen Jingqi simultaneously launched their attack. They leapt high, their longsword and dagger glinting coldly as they aimed at the beast. The beast sensed the danger and tried to evade, but it was too late. Lin Yu's longsword and Shen Jingqi's dagger pierced the beast simultaneously. The beast let out a harrowing scream, tossing its body wildly and throwing Lin Yu and Shen Jingqi aside. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
Catching this chance, Li Baiyu launched another powerful attack. She pushed her hands forward, sending a massive wave of energy sweeping over the beast. Under the impact of the energy wave, the beast wobbled and finally collapsed with a thud.
The three of them collapsed to the ground again, gasping for breath.
"Just how many more of these monsters are in this forest?" Lin Yu weakly asked, his voice full of fear and exhaustion. The recent battle with the beast lingered vividly in his mind, and the horrifying scene still made his heart race. He couldn't help but ponder how this forest felt like a massive enigma, each step deeper diving them into more danger, not knowing where the end lay.
Shen Jingqi gritted his teeth, enduring the pain as he spoke, "No matter how many, we have to continue. The conspiracy of the Black-clothed Men and the mysterious organization won't stop because of these monsters." His eyes revealed determination. Despite the severe pain in his body, the belief in safeguarding world peace supported him. He thought about how the mysterious organization painstakingly set up layers of obstacles in this forest, surely hiding a shocking conspiracy behind it. They couldn't give up halfway.
Struggling to her feet, Li Baiyu scanned the surroundings warily and said, "We need to leave here quickly. The noise from the fight just now might attract more danger." Her ears twitched slightly, as if hearing faint sounds from a distance, an ominous feeling rising in her heart. She realized small noises in this perilous forest might mean a new disaster was approaching.
The three helped each other up, dragging their exhausted bodies as they continued deeper into the forest. The mist in the forest was growing thicker, like a mysterious veil blanketing everything. The outlines of trees became blurry, with only vague shapes moving within the mist. Occasionally, a cold wind would blow, stirring the mist and producing an eerie "woo woo" sound, as if countless wailing souls were crying.
"The mist seems to be getting denser. I can't see the path clearly," Lin Yu said, frowning as he tried to scan the mist for the road ahead but only saw a white expanse. Uneasiness filled his heart, as they stumbled blindly in this foggy forest like headless flies, unsure of where they were heading or what danger lurked ahead.
Tightly gripping his dagger, Shen Jingqi said, "Everyone, be careful. Stay close to me." His eyes showed wariness, each step taken with caution to avoid triggering any hidden danger. He suspected this dense fog was created by some mysterious force to confuse them and lead them to their demise.
Closing her eyes, Li Baiyu sensed the atmosphere around her. After a while, she opened her eyes, her expression growing more severe. "I sense an evil presence approaching us quickly," her words tightened Lin Yu and Shen Jingqi's hearts, their bodies tensing instantly as they prepared for battle.
Suddenly a sharp cry echoed from the mist, piercing the soul and sending chills down the spine. Following that, a group of shadows flew out from the mist, rushing at them. Focusing his eyes, Lin Yu saw they were winged monsters, resembling bats, but with menacingly sharp claws and eyes glowing with ominous red light.
"Blood-drinking bat creatures! Be careful!" Li Baiyu shouted, quickly forming seals with her hands as a beam of light shot towards the nearest blood-drinking bat creatures. Those creatures hit by the light shrieked, falling to the ground. Yet the others were undeterred, attacking the trio more frenziedly.
Lin Yu swung his longsword at one of the creatures. It skillfully dodged his attack and took the opportunity to claw at his arm. Lin Yu quickly retreated, but still, a wound was left with blood instantly flowing out. The pungent smell hit him, realizing these creatures were attracted by blood.
Seeing his moment, Shen Jingqi threw his dagger at one blood-drinking bat creature, hitting it precisely. It struggled for a moment before falling, but more swarmed towards him, surrounding him completely. Shen Jingqi swung his arms, trying to fend them off, but with little effect.
Li Baiyu continued her relentless attack, lights flickering among the swarm of creatures, but their overwhelming numbers were exhausting her. Sweat soaked her brow, her breaths coming rapidly as anxiety rose in her heart. Continuing like this, their stamina would be drained by these creatures sooner or later.
"We can't just passively take hits like this. We need a way to break through," Lin Yu shouted loudly, his eyes seeking a direction to escape. He noticed an open area ahead, which might allow them to shake off these creatures.
Shen Jingqi nodded, saying, "Alright, let's charge that way!" pointing towards the open area.
