Chapter 37 - 37 – Smart Goblin

People from the Naruto dimension, Konoha and Suna's shinobi, and DxD's dimension, were staring at each other.

The ninja was on guard. They had never seen a human with such strange clothes before.

Rias and the others also looked at the ninja group with confusion. Their eyes scanned the people in the lobby, especially on their clothing.

Silence ensued for a minute until the ninja made their move. One of the ninjas, Temari from Sunagakure's ninja group, stepped forward and greeted the group of high schoolers with a bow.

"Excuse me. Where did you come from?" She asked.

"Hmm, from Kuoh Academy." Issei answered, "Where did you guys come from? You are wearing weird clothes. What school uniform is that?"

"School uniform?"

Both sides became confused and were wondering about what was going on. This place was a dungeon, but why would there be people inside it?

There wasn't anyone else when they entered. Kakashi especially got confused when he saw Sunagakure shinobi in this place but hid it under his mask and assessed the situation calmly.

The atmosphere between them became strange. Rias then decided to clear the air by introducing herself and her peerage, saying, "I am Rias Gremory, the heir of the Gremory house. And these people here are my friends and subordinates."

The Suna and Konoha ninja group was stunned by her answer, but Temari recovered quickly and introduced her group.

"I'm Temari from Sunagakure. Behind me, the people wearing the same headbands are also from my village." She introduced and gestured at the people behind her.

"Shinobi from Konohagakure." Kakashi's introduction was short and concise.

Naruto looked like he was about to complain, but Neji blocked him. He didn't want him to cause any commotion.

After hearing their introductions, Rias and her group nodded, but the people from Naruto dimension were still confused.

At that moment, a cough echoed in the hub area.

"I see that you've all introduced yourselves to each other."

A strange, slightly hoarse voice echoed throughout the hub, and everyone looked around for its source, wary about the new entrance that they couldn't feel before.

Standing near the center where the dungeon portal was located was a creature they knew very well. A goblin.

Everyone who had entered the dungeon before immediately went on guard. Naruto and his friends put up a fighting stance while the Devils prepare their magic and weapons.

However, everyone stopped when they realized the goblin talked. And unlike other goblins...

"A suit?"

... This one was wearing a suit like a businessman.

"Indeed." The goblin nodded.

Monster with self-consciousness couldn't be purchased yet.

So Cain deliberately controlled this goblin to act like a guide for now to defuse the strange tension in the air.

If he didn't do this, he was afraid both parties would just stay in this place while being wary of each other.

Not only that, he wanted to introduce an intelligent monster to these people so they wouldn't be surprised in the future.

"I even have a name tag here. See? It said 'Smart Goblin, Don't attack.' I am afraid that you will face consequences if you attack someone on this safe floor."

He explained calmly while looking at them all. The ninja and devils, however, still had their guards up.

Rias asked, "What do you want?"

"Nothing."

He answered, shaking his head.

"My job is just to answer any question you might have about this dungeon's rules. For example, this place is called a safe area. It's a place where you can rest and relax and meet with people from other dimensions, and any battle is forbidden here."

"Oh?" Rias narrowed her eyes, "Dimension? Other dimensions?"

"Yessssss. Dimension. Other worlds. Another universe." The Smart Goblin nodded.

He was surprised that they didn't react to it, "Wait... Do none of you know what a dimension is? I know that the Devils understood it. But how about you, shinobi?"

"I do know what dimension is." Kakashi answered. "But how do we even end up in the same place? Is this another world?"

"Yes." The Goblin said. He looked around at everyone, "I think I should explain this again, starting from the beginning. I didn't think that this world didn't know anything about another dimension. It was a bit weird."

"Alright. Please start your explanation." Rias said. "But we want to make sure first that you are not an enemy and not lying to us."

"Of course I am not an enemy! The Dungeon Maker ordered me to be a tutorial guide, taking your world's words and such to make it easy to be understood by the first group that entered the dungeon."

Upon hearing the Dungeon Maker, Rias lowered her guard slightly. She gestured for her peerage to back down and keep their weapons away.

The Goblin sighed, relieved. He then began his explanation.

The Smart Goblin told them that he was created by the Dungeon Maker to help them, and he was not a monster. He was a guide.

He also explained the purpose of the dungeon and its rules, and the people's expression changed from confusion to excitement, and some were interested in the possibility of finding rare materials in the dungeon.

Not only that, there were treasures, weapons, and even a 100% chance to revive if you die. It sounded like an amazing opportunity.

Almost too good to be true.

That's why the goblin raised its finger and continued.

"Of course there is a price to pay when you die."

Nothing was free in this world. Even death had its consequences.

"Your price to pay for dying in a dungeon is..."

...

"... your equipment will be taken by the dungeon. You will be left with nothing and you won't be able to enter the dungeon for 7 days of your world's time, so proceed with caution!"

Cain didn't want the revival system to be abused. There was a chance that the challengers would think of dying as the easy way out, especially if the reward was worth the risk.

So he needed to make sure that they wouldn't die for no reason. This would make them work hard to stay alive, even in the most desperate situation.

Equipment was important. He wanted the people to be attached to it, especially since he would create incredible ones later.

At first he wanted to implement a penalty system, but there was nothing to gain from the challengers yet. So he implemented this temporary solution right now.

"Okay. So let me explain the rules one more time. If you're in a safe area, no one will attack you. However, if you're in the battle area, you'll have to be prepared to fight and defend yourself. Even against other parties."

Smart Goblin was about to continue when Neji interrupted him, saying, "You mean we could kill other people from another dimension? What if we don't want to do it?"

"That's a good question." The goblin nodded. "Well, the answer is that you won't be punished. But be careful as everyone is able to access this hub. And if someone from other dimensions wants to attack you, well... They could do that. You have to fight for your life."

The ninja were quiet, considering this.

"And as you already know, the penalty for dying in the dungeon is the loss of all your equipment and you can't enter the dungeon again for a week. You will be revived in that room after a day, so there is no permanent death. We operate using dungeon laws."

"Alright, I understand that much." Temari said, "I just have one last question, though. Can you explain the dungeon law to us in detail?"

The Smart Goblin smiled and answered, "Well, please read the flyer over there. My role here is over, so enjoy the dungeon."

And he disappeared. A black hole opened beneath him and he sank in it before the hole disappeared.

Cain sighed, 'It was tiring. This is definitely not my forte. But, the tutorial is done. Now I just need to wait and observe. Hopefully the third dungeon can get more popularity and challengers.'

He then took off the controller and laid down on his throne.

Three different parties from two different dimensions began exchanging information. They also agreed for a non-aggression pact because both didn't know each other's capabilities yet.

As for the Sunagakure and Konohagakure shinobi, they didn't need to do anything as they were already allied. The Chuunin and Naruto talked with Temari and Kankurou, enjoying their unexpected reunion after some years.

The atmosphere in the lobby was light, like a normal school's classroom.

However, Rias was still wary of the ninja.

She decided to enter first with her peerage, leaving the ninja that try to plan something.

"Let's go."

"Okay!"

The Devils walked toward the portal and entered it one by one, leaving only the ninja behind.
