My Amnesic Ex Married My Sister, So I Married His Uncle-Chapter 154: Her Partner Isn’t Him, and That’s Not Good
Jasper Jennings said no more and led Ryan Shaw to the parking lot.
But just as they were about to get in, Ryan Shaw walked straight to the driver’s seat and yanked the driver out.
The driver was completely stunned.
Before he could even process what had happened, the man in the car slammed on the gas and sped away.
The driver and Jasper Jennings, who was holding the suitcase, stood there and stared at each other, dumbfounded.
After a long moment, Jasper Jennings resignedly called for another car.
In the car, Ryan Shaw called Zion Shawcross. He had no idea what that guy was up to, but he didn’t pick up.
This time, he didn’t spam-call him like usual. He just followed the GPS straight to Zion Shawcross’s apartment.
He had no trouble getting there and even knew the code to Zion Shawcross’s front door.
He entered the code and pushed the door open.
The entryway was filled with men’s sneakers—nothing new there.
Ryan Shaw took off his shoes and felt his way through the darkness toward one of the rooms.
He opened the door and went in. A faint silhouette of a person was on the bed.
Ryan Shaw stood by the corner and dialed a number.
The next second, a phone’s ringtone echoed through the quiet room.
’The ringtone isn’t exactly quiet,’ Ryan Shaw thought. ’Anyone who isn’t deaf should be able to hear it.’
Sure enough, the person on the bed picked up the phone, glanced at it, then tossed it aside and went back to sleep.
Ryan Shaw hung up and smiled silently.
’This bastard.’
Ryan Shaw didn’t make a sound, his steps light and slow.
He crept to the side of the bed, crouched down in front of Zion Shawcross’s head, and stared at him without moving.
Strangely enough, Zion Shawcross had a sudden, unsettling feeling.
The room was pitch-black, with only the faint glow from a few power indicators.
’But why do I get the feeling that someone is staring at me in the dark...’
Zion Shawcross was startled by his own thought.
Then he immediately felt pathetic.
’A grown man like me, still scared of sleeping alone?’
But that creepy feeling didn’t go away.
He mustered his courage, lit up his phone screen, and was met the next second by a pair of wide, saucer-like eyes.
"AHHH—!!!!!"
Zion Shawcross let out a bloodcurdling scream and scrambled for his life to the other side of the bed.
Just then, with a CLICK, the lights came on.
Zion Shawcross could see clearly now. It wasn’t some monster or ghost in front of him, but that dog Ryan Shaw!
He angrily grabbed a pillow and threw it at him. "Are you insane?!"
Ryan Shaw tilted his head to dodge, and the pillow grazed his shoulder before falling to the floor behind him.
"Heh, so you won’t answer my calls? You bastard."
"Who’s the bastard calling a bastard?" Zion Shawcross retorted, patting his chest to calm the heart that had nearly leaped out of his throat.
Ryan Shaw couldn’t be bothered to argue. With a smirk, he dragged Zion over and delivered a series of shoulder throws right on the bed. That did the trick.
He finally behaved.
In the end, Zion Shawcross simply cooked two bowls of plain noodle soup at home, poached two eggs, and added a few lettuce leaves. The two of them sat at the dining table, heads down, slurping their noodles.
Only after he had drunk all the soup did Ryan Shaw let out a satisfied burp.
Zion Shawcross looked at him in disgust. "Starving, were you?"
Ryan Shaw shook his head. "Just a month of nothing but instant noodles and bread."
"And you can still stomach more noodles?"
Ryan Shaw shot him a look. "Are instant noodles and home-cooked noodles the same thing?"
’Alright, alright, whatever you say.’
Zion Shawcross tossed his chopsticks down and kicked Ryan Shaw under the table. "Go do the dishes."
Ryan Shaw nodded, gathered their empty bowls, and went to the kitchen to wash them.
Watching Ryan Shaw’s practiced movements as he washed the dishes, Zion Shawcross thought, ’His old man really put this young master through the wringer.’
’Look at him. From head to toe, is there any trace of a spoiled young master’s bad habits?’
’None.’
’Not a single one.’
’So little trouble.’
Ryan Shaw turned his head and saw Zion Shawcross’s fond, fatherly smile. It grossed him out so much that he went over and kicked him.
After everything was cleaned up, Ryan Shaw finally spoke. "Your new album is about to be released, right?"
Zion Shawcross smiled.
"Don’t beat around the bush. Just say what you want to say."
"How has she been lately?"
For a long time, this "she" had been a codeword between them.
Zion Shawcross had been curious for ages, and the mystery was finally revealed this summer.
It was just that...
Zion Shawcross asked, "Stella Sterling?"
Ryan Shaw nodded.
Zion Shawcross started to get a headache.
He thought for a moment and said, "She’s doing well. I think."
"Her family isn’t giving her a hard time, are they?"
"..." How was he supposed to answer that? "I don’t think so. She’s... maybe a little different now from when you knew her..."
Ryan Shaw nodded.
Apparently, he hadn’t noticed the hesitation and uncertainty in Zion Shawcross’s tone.
Ryan Shaw’s mind was already racing, excitedly imagining how he would ask Stella Sterling to meet up.
It would have been fine if he just kept it to himself, but he had to voice his thoughts, asking Zion Shawcross what he thought of this plan or that idea.
’The guy’s so enthusiastic, I don’t have the heart to pour cold water on him...’
’But no matter how much it hurts, he has to face reality, right?’
"Ryan," Zion Shawcross interrupted him. "There’s something I have to tell you."
"What is it? Tell me." Ryan Shaw’s eyes were sparkling.
"Stella Sterling... is married. Did you know?"
"..."
The entire room suddenly fell silent. Even the sound of a water droplet from the faucet seemed especially loud.
Ryan Shaw’s smile froze on his face.
After a long moment, he seemed to finally process what Zion Shawcross had just said.
"Is it... married in the way I’m thinking?"
"Yeah."
"With who? Don’t tell me it’s Ethan Rhodes."
Zion Shawcross couldn’t stand seeing him like this and tried to lighten the mood.
He said with a smile, "What? You mean you’d be okay with it if it wasn’t Ethan Rhodes?"
The only response he got was the ugliest expression imaginable on Ryan Shaw’s face.
’Okay, my bad. I misread the room.’
"It’s Owen Rhodes."
Ryan Shaw furrowed his brow slightly, as if he couldn’t recall who that was for a moment.
But he quickly remembered.
"What happened?"
Zion Shawcross shook his head. "I don’t know the specifics. Anyway, aren’t you going to see her? You can ask her yourself."
’That’s right, I have to see her.’
He patted his cheeks.
’Getting married is great!’
’Married is good.’
’But the fact that it’s not me... that’s not so good.’
