My Amnesic Ex Married My Sister, So I Married His Uncle-Chapter 81: Damn Girl, You’re Eating Well
Stella Sterling was already in a foul mood from Owen Rhodes coaxing her reluctantly out of bed. But when she finished eating, put down her chopsticks, and looked up to see him gazing at her with a smile in his eyes, her mood soured even more.
’Look at him, his eyes filled with tenderness. He’s like a completely different person from last night!’
’Men will truly stop at nothing to prove they’ve got what it takes.’
Stella had gotten really tired by the end of last night, but Owen seemed tireless. Unable to take it anymore, she bit his shoulder, only for Owen to laugh at her for having such poor stamina.
’That damn man!’
’He got everything he wanted and is still playing innocent!’
A smile played on Owen Rhodes’s lips as he looked at her. "Why so huffy? Who made you angry?"
Stella Sterling stared at him. "Who do you think?"
Owen Rhodes was very good-natured and patient. "Well, how about I let you bite me again?"
’Oh, so he enjoyed it, did he!’
Stella Sterling stood up and went upstairs without looking back. "I’m not talking to you anymore!"
Owen Rhodes wasn’t annoyed. He followed her upstairs at a leisurely pace.
Stella deliberately walked quickly, her steps heavy and loud.
As soon as she entered the room, she curled up on the bed and pulled the covers over her head, planning to catch up on sleep.
But the sound of rustling in the room still reached her ears.
She heard Owen Rhodes go into the bathroom, then heard him come out after his shower, closing the door very gently.
Then, a corner of the blanket was lifted, and a man smelling of pine and bamboo pulled her into his embrace as the mattress dipped beside her.
Stella Sterling couldn’t help but open her eyes. "What are you doing?"
"Catching up on sleep."
Perhaps because she hadn’t slept well, Stella Sterling’s frown was so deep it made her eyelids crease into three layers.
"Don’t you have to go to the office this afternoon?"
"Mhm, not going."
Stella Sterling’s face was a mask of judgment, as if the world were going to hell in a handbasket. Her expression made Owen Rhodes laugh.
"Mrs. Rhodes, it shouldn’t be illegal for your husband to take half a day off, should it?" He reached out and tapped the tip of her nose. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
Stella Sterling said nothing, just stared at him. After a moment, she suddenly craned her neck and pretended to bite his finger, like a cat with its fur on end.
Luckily, Owen Rhodes pulled his finger back just in time, or he would have undoubtedly gotten a hard bite.
’Looks like she still hasn’t vented all her anger.’
The smile in Owen Rhodes’s eyes deepened.
Not wanting to look at him, Stella Sterling turned her back to him.
Owen Rhodes took the opportunity to wrap his arms around her from behind, placing a kiss behind her ear. "Go to sleep."
He wasn’t actually sleepy; he just wanted to be with her, to look at her.
He hadn’t been able to focus at the office all morning. He got nothing done, his mind completely filled with images of her from last night.
The ever-efficient President Rhodes had his inefficient moments, too.
So he’d simply gone on strike and come home.
Never before had Lanthos Bay made him feel so eager to return home.
He soon heard Stella Sterling’s long, even breaths. A series of kisses, as gentle as falling snow, landed on the back of her shoulder.
Stella Sterling woke up in Owen Rhodes’s arms as usual. A glance at the time showed it was almost four in the afternoon.
Her phone was flooded with unread messages from Ken and Ariana Grant.
The moment Stella Sterling moved, Owen Rhodes woke up as well.
By the time she came out after quickly washing up, Owen Rhodes had already changed into loungewear and told her he was going to the study to handle some work.
In her chat with Ken, the screen was still filled with a headache-inducing number of exclamation points.
The gist was, he was asking how her considerations were going regarding the collaboration with Zion Shawcross.
Since she hadn’t replied for a long time, Ken had started to worry about her personal safety.
Just as she sent her reply to Ken, a call came in from Ariana Grant.
When the call connected, Ariana Grant seemed taken aback for a second. "Whoa, you actually picked up. Stella Sterling, what have you been up to? Not replying to messages all day, what kind of trouble are you getting into behind my back?"
Stella Sterling refuted it without a second thought. "Of course not. What’s up? Did you need me for something?"
The moment Ariana Grant heard that self-deceiving denial, she guessed Stella Sterling wasn’t telling the truth.
But she didn’t press the issue. "I’m heading back to Sudleigh tomorrow. Want to come have dinner with me tonight?"
Stella Sterling agreed without a second thought.
Ariana Grant was from Sudleigh and her company was based there too, so naturally, she couldn’t stay in Jandor forever.
She and Stella Sterling were best friends, but they could only connect online most of the time.
It was rare for Ariana Grant to visit Jandor, and Stella hadn’t been able to spend proper time with her due to all sorts of things. Now that Ariana was leaving, of course Stella had to see her off.
Stella Sterling had originally planned to go downstairs to the study to find Owen Rhodes and tell him in person about her dinner plans with Ariana Grant.
But after taking two steps, she turned back and decided to send him a message instead.
Stella Sterling: [Ariana Grant is going back to Sudleigh tomorrow. I’m having dinner with her tonight.]
Owen Rhodes: [Mhm. Can you bring family along?]
Stella Sterling stared at it for two seconds before realizing that by "family," he meant himself.
Stella Sterling: [No!]
Owen Rhodes’s voice sounded from the doorway. "Why not?"
Stella Sterling looked up and saw him looking utterly pleased with himself.
’My legs and back are still a little sore, so why does he seem perfectly fine!’
Stella Sterling pouted. "It’s a girls’ get-together. What would we do with a grown man there?"
Owen Rhodes raised an eyebrow, indicating he understood.
Then he added a reminder, "Come home early after dinner."
Stella Sterling was in the middle of her skincare routine. "Mhm."
"Don’t go wandering all over the place with Ariana Grant."
"Owen Rhodes, do you have a problem with Ariana Grant?"
"Mhm. I’m worried she’ll be a bad influence on my wife."
Stella Sterling whipped her head around. "She won’t! Besides, why aren’t you worried that I’ll be a bad influence on her?"
Owen Rhodes walked over to her and brushed her long hair back so it wouldn’t get in her skincare products.
"Because Stella is a good girl," Owen Rhodes stated with certainty.
For some reason, his deep-set eyes grew even more intense, and he stared at her in a way that she found baffling.
After finishing her makeup, Stella Sterling went to the walk-in closet to change. It was only when she took off her pajamas that she noticed the many suggestive marks left on her neck, hidden by the collar.
Owen Rhodes had been the one to carry her to get cleaned up last night; she had been too exhausted to function.
The anger that had just started to subside flared up all over again.
Fortunately, she had long hair and could use it to cover them up a bit.
But this little trick was no match for Ariana Grant’s eagle eyes.
At that moment, Stella Sterling had just sat down next to Ariana Grant when Ariana started staring intently at her collarbone.
Stella Sterling fiddled uncomfortably with her hair. "Ariana Grant, what is it?"
Ariana Grant reached out directly, using her index finger to flick aside the long hair that was doing a poor job of concealing things. She then teased, "You brat, looks like you’ve been eating well. Given yourself to him already?"
Stella Sterling felt a little embarrassed and tried to mimic a fraction of Ariana Grant’s worldly flair.
"When faced with such a feast for the eyes, it would be rude not to indulge."
Ariana Grant snorted. "Don’t give me that. You think I don’t know you? If you were really like me, I wouldn’t have to worry. Stella Sterling, hold a little back when it comes to feelings. Otherwise, I’m afraid you’ll get hurt again."
One Ethan Rhodes had already been enough to leave Stella Sterling deeply wounded.
From what Ariana Grant knew of her, Stella was only putting on a brave face. She couldn’t guess what Stella was truly thinking, especially when she tried so hard to hide it.
Stella Sterling found her words a little strange. "Ariana Grant, is there something you’re trying to say?"
For the past few days, Ariana Grant had been struggling with whether or not to tell Stella Sterling that Owen Rhodes had an old flame he couldn’t forget.
She had sounded him out before; Owen Rhodes really did seem like a decent guy, and he had the power to protect Stella. Her intuition told her that Owen probably wouldn’t hurt Stella.
After some thought, she said, "I’m just afraid you’ll throw yourself in headfirst and repeat the same mistakes. Forget it, forget it. To hell with love and all that crap. Want to go out for a couple of drinks with your big sis tonight? Stella Sterling, do you know what your problem is?"
Stella Sterling played along. "What is it?"
"You haven’t seen enough men!"
