My Anti-hero Fairy System-Chapter 85. Wilhelmina’s Attack
[I warned you about this yesterday, but you just kept insulting her,] Hagrit chimed in.
Oh well, it’s just her. I can take her, Cara thought dismissively.
Despite the situation, Cara remained unfazed. "You want to drain me dry after I saved your life last night? Isn’t that a little ungrateful?" she asked, arching a brow.
Wilhelmina let out a sharp laugh. "You really think what you did last night shields you from the consequences of that filthy mouth of yours?"
"Yeah, I figured saving your life might have earned me some goodwill," Cara said flatly. "Guess I should’ve just let you die, you ungrateful bitch."
Wilhelmina’s smirk widened. "There’s that foul mouth again. You’re just making this so much easier for me." Her red eyes glinted with amusement. "And by the way, I knew you were lying last night when I asked how you knew what that woman was planning."
’Damn. I had a feeling she didn’t buy that lie.’
[You can’t expect everyone to fall for your tricks every time,] Hagrit chided.
Cara kept her expression neutral. "But I wasn’t lying."
"Stop lying." Wilhelmina’s gaze flicked toward the diner. "This is where you work, isn’t it? You’re no journalist."
"I am a journalist," Cara insisted. "I’m undercover, investigating the Temp-V trade. Right here in this diner, hidden somewhere, is a Temp-V warehouse. That’s why I’m close to Joana, I report all my findings to her since she’s the vampire chief of this town."
Wilhelmina studied her for a long moment before speaking. "You might be telling the truth now," she admitted. "But last night? You lied." She licked her lips, eyes gleaming. "And either way, I’m still going to feast on your virgin blood."
Cara smirked, completely unfazed. "I’m not going to make it easy for you."
Something in her confidence made Wilhelmina hesitate, her smirk faltering just slightly.
"You’re just a butterfly who thinks it’s a bird," Wilhelmina snarled. "Let’s see how long you last before I suck you dry."
With that, she lunged at Cara.
Before Wilhelmina could reach her, a massive German shepherd leaped into the fray, sinking its teeth into Wilhelmina’s arm.
Cara’s eyes widened in shock. "Jackie, no!" she yelled instinctively.
Wilhelmina barely flinched as the dog’s jaws clamped down harder. Instead, she let out a low chuckle. "This, this is your plan? Letting your pet fight your battles?"
With effortless strength, she pried the dog off her arm and hurled it across the concrete. Jackie landed hard on her back, letting out a sharp, pained yelp.
Cara’s stomach twisted at the sound. Jackie was hurt.
Wilhelmina turned back to her, amusement flickering in her cold eyes. "Don’t worry, your dog is still alive," she said mockingly. "But it’s going to miss you..."
Before she could finish, Cara thrust out her palm, and a stream of Fire-Blasts shot from her fingertips. Wilhelmina’s taunting expression morphed into shock just before one of the fiery blasts struck her, sending her sprawling to the ground.
Cara didn’t hesitate. She charged forward, unleashing another blast, but Wilhelmina rolled to the side just in time, dodging the attack. The vampire was no longer on the offensive, she was on the defensive now, this wasn’t what she planned at all.
"I told you I wouldn’t make this easy," Cara said, her voice unwavering. "What I didn’t tell you is that I’m going to kill you."
Wilhelmina’s eyes darted around, realizing she was losing. Panic set in, and she turned to flee.
Cara anticipated it. She fired another blast, aiming right where Wilhelmina was running. The flames struck her full force, sending her crashing to the ground, writhing in agony.
Cara approached, breathing heavily, her gaze fixed on the vampire’s burned and smoldering chest. She crouched beside her, tilting her head.
"I guess this is the end for you, bitch," she said coolly.
Wilhelmina coughed, her skin still sizzling from the burns. Her eyes flickered with something between fear and confusion. "What are you?" she rasped.
Cara smiled, fire still crackling at her fingertips. "That’s something you will never know, ugly bitch."
With one final blast, she engulfed Wilhelmina in flames. The vampire let out a bloodcurdling shriek as her body combusted, disintegrating into ash.
As soon as it was over, Cara turned and ran toward Jackie. The German shepherd was gone. In its place, a naked, badly injured Jackie lay sprawled on the pavement, her breath shallow.
Without hesitation, Cara scooped Jackie into her arms and carried her toward the house behind the diner.
Inside, she carefully laid Jackie on the couch and covered her exposed body. But before Cara could even catch her breath, Jackie suddenly began to writhe in pain.
Cara froze, unsure of what to do. As panic set in, she reached for her phone, ready to call 911. But before she could dial, Jackie’s body twisted violently, convulsing as if some unseen energy was surging through her. Sparks of raw force crackled along her back, lighting up the dim room.
Then, just as abruptly as it had begun, Jackie sprang up from the floor, brushing herself off as if nothing had happened. "God! That took longer than usual."
Cara let out a breath she didn’t realize she’d been holding and shoved her phone back into her pocket. "You heal that fast?"
Jackie smirked, standing taller. "Yes, I do." There was a distinct note of pride in her voice.
Cara’s expression hardened. "You should’ve said something, I almost called emergency services!"
Jackie chuckled. "Well, now you know. This is all new for me, i haven’t been this injured before. Tonight was my first time attacking a vampire."
"It shows," Cara muttered. "You went at her like she was human, wrong move."
Jackie’s eyes locked onto Cara, her expression turning serious. "I saw you," she said slowly. "I saw what you were able to do, fire shooting out of your hands," She took a step closer. "You are not human, are you?"
Cara didn’t say a word. Jackie stared at her intently. "Tell me what you are?"
