Elion pushed open the large doors of his office, the familiar scent of leather and faint traces of coffee welcoming him back. He hadn't been here in a week, which was rare for someone as work-obsessed as him. But with Raelynn's recovery being his top priority, he'd let himself stay by her side. Now, with her health restored, he could focus on the mountain of responsibilities awaiting him.

Kade was already there, leaning casually against Elion's desk, shuffling through a stack of papers. His trademark smirk grew wider the moment Elion walked in. "Well, well, look who finally decided to show up," Kade said. "I take it Mrs. Vaelorian is feeling better now?"

Elion froze mid-step, his expression darkening as he glared at his second-in-command. "Mrs. Vaelorian?" he repeated. "Who are you referring to, Kade?"

Kade's grin widened, his raised eyebrow daring a reaction. "Oh, come on, who else? Raelynn, of course. Unless you've gone and impregnated another woman and brought her to your house without telling me?"

With a hard set to his jaw, Elion's gaze turned icy and focused. "I'll tolerate you just this one time," he muttered, brushing past Kade and making his way to his chair. He straightened his cuffs, brushing off the words like they were nothing.

Kade chuckled, clearly enjoying himself. "What? It's a reasonable assumption. I mean, she's living at your estate, carrying your—"

"Enough," Elion snapped. "Do you have anything useful to say, or did you come here just to test my patience?"

Kade raised his hands, a fake 'I give up' look on his face. "Fine, fine. Let's get to business then." He picked up a folder from the desk and began flipping through its contents. "First order of the day—here's the report on the quarterly finances. As expected, the merger with Rykor Industries is proving profitable, but we need to address some minor disputes with their board. They're pushing back on the terms for the next phase of integration."

Elion nodded, leaning back in his chair, his fingers steepled beneath his chin. "What kind of disputes?"

Kade pulled out a document and slid it across the desk. "Mostly about resource allocation. They think we're taking too much control over the distribution channels. Typical corporate paranoia."

Elion skimmed the document, his sharp eyes scanning each line. "Draft a response emphasizing the mutual benefits of our agreement. If they want to renegotiate terms, remind them of the penalties for breaking the contract."

"Already on it," Kade said, tucking the folder back under his arm. "Next up, we've got that bastard who attacked Raelynn at the party."

Elion's expression darkened instantly, a dangerous glint flashing in his eyes. "What about him?"

Kade leaned against the desk again, crossing his arms. "Well, apart from keeping him like as you ordered, the idiot's been identified as a rogue with ties to the eastern clans. Apparently, he's been causing trouble in their territory too. Word is, they're not happy about it."

"They shouldn't be," Elion said coldly. "And neither am I. Spread his name and face around—anyone who try to help him becomes our enemy."

"Consider it done," Kade replied, scribbling a note on his tablet. "Now, onto the last bit of news—Mr. Simmons."

Elion's expression didn't change, but his eyes held something hard to place. He leaned forward slightly, his elbows resting on the desk. "What about him?"

His interest was clear as he leaned a little closer, hoping for more details. "Well, for starters, I heard he came to your house. Care to elaborate? Because I've been dying to know what happened."

His tone was calm, but there was no mistaking the warning behind it. "Don't get ahead of yourself, Kade."

"Come on, boss," Kade pressed, a sly grin creeping onto his face. "You can't just drop a bombshell like that and expect me not to be curious."

Elion sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Mr. Simmons came to discuss the rogue's attack on Raelynn." He then leaned back in his chair, his sharp gaze locking onto Kade as if daring him to push further. "You know the drill, Kade. Mr. Simmons came over to ensure everything was fine after the rogue attack. He apologized for the situation and offered help—or whatever assistance he thought he could provide."

Kade's eyebrows shot up. "And you said no, of course."

"Of course." Elion's voice was flat, but the subtle twitch in his jaw betrayed his irritation.

Kade nodded slowly, his grin widening. "Okay, but... did you ever mention Raelynn to him?"

Elion's glare was immediate and sharp enough to cut through stone. "Oh, absolutely. I dressed Raelynn in the most beautiful, sparkling dress I could find, paraded her around the house, and announced her pregnancy to the world like a town crier."

Kade smirked, unimpressed by the sarcasm. "Well, that clears things up." Kade replied, but his curiosity clearly hadn't waned. "So, what did he want to do about the rogue?"

Elion sighed, folding his arms across his chest. "He offered to take care of it himself, said he'd send his men to handle the situation. I told him it was unnecessary."

Kade raised an eyebrow. "Didn't he get suspicious? I mean, if you're so against about not handing him over. And let's not forget who Raelynn is. That's bound to raise a few eyebrows."

Elion's expression didn't change, though the corners of his mouth tightened. "I told him it was personal. That the person involved is a friend of mine."

Kade snorted, unable to hold back his laughter. "A friend? You? Do you even have friends, boss?"

Elion shot him a cold look. "Do you want me to remind you how replaceable you are, Kade?"

"Easy, easy," Kade said, holding his hands up with a grin. "I'm just saying, calling her a friend is a bit of a stretch, don't you think."

"Fortunately," Elion said dryly, "it's not your job to worry about what people believe."

Kade chuckled, leaning forward. "Fair enough. But let's be real—calling her a 'friend' doesn't exactly fit, considering how you act around her."

Elion didn't dignify that with a response, though his silence was telling enough. Kade grinned, satisfied. "Alright, boss. I'll drop it—for now. But if you ever need help planning her next sparkling dress debut, you know where to find me."

Elion sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose again. "Get out, Kade."

Kade stood, still grinning as he left. "You're welcome."
