My Borderline Supervillain-Slash-Hero System-Chapter 158 Ending the Training
After dying countless times, Shelby finally slew the Titan Warrior.
Zane and Xoxo stood frozen, staring in disbelief. Even the most advanced scientists of Atlantis had spent centuries researching and developing a prototype weapon designed solely to kill a Titan. The fact that Shelby managed it by himself was nothing short of impossible.
Zane had cleared this mission too—but his path had been easier. His soul-sword had devoured and digested that same prototype weapon, giving him an advantage. Watching Shelby triumph through sheer willpower only deepened his admiration.
Beside him, Xoxo was dumbstruck, muttering half-formed questions under his breath.
"Well done, Shel. You finally did it," Zane said, genuine pride in his tone.
Shelby collapsed onto the ground, catching his breath. "You went through this process too, right? How long did it take you to find the Titan’s weakness and kill it?"
The question caught both Zane and Xoxo’s attention. Xoxo stepped closer, curiosity gleaming in his eyes.
Zane rubbed the back of his neck and gave a wry smile. "Ten minutes."
"Ten minutes?!" Shelby’s face twisted in disbelief. "I spent over ten hours and died more than five hundred times! You’re a monster wearing human skin. I envy you."
Zane chuckled awkwardly. "No, you’ve got it backward. You’re the real monster in human skin."
"Hey, stop being so humble. Ten minutes versus ten hours—that’s not even comparable! Just take the compliment, or I’ll beat your ass," Shelby laughed.
Zane sighed. "I’m not joking. I defeated the Titan Warrior using my sword. You, on the other hand, did it with nothing but grit and pure will, even after dying again and again."
Shelby narrowed his eyes. "Wait... are you mocking me?"
Zane quickly raised his hands. "No, listen. Titans are among the strongest humanoid races in our universe—their defense and physique are unmatched. The scientists of Atlantis spent centuries studying them and eventually discovered their weakness. But even then, breaking through their skin was nearly impossible, so they created a prototype weapon just to kill Titans.
"One of the experiment sites was Solaris City. With Xoxo’s help, I collected all one hundred scattered parts of that weapon and assembled it. But before I could even test it, my sword—my ’sword-baby’—ate the whole thing and digested it. Believe me, once it did, slicing through Titans became easy. Those ten minutes I mentioned? That was how long it took me to fight the Titan Warrior without the sword."
Shelby listened intently, his expression gradually softening.
Finally, Shelby smirked and said, "Good. Then let me test that fancy sword of yours on the next Titan Warrior I meet."
The sword strapped to Zane’s back immediately started complaining telepathically, its voice ringing in his head.
"No, no! I only allow my father to touch me! If he tries, I’ll cut him down!"
Zane unsheathed the blade and gently ran his hand along its edge. "Be a good girl. Just this once, okay? Shelby’s my brother—so he’s basically your uncle. Don’t cut him."
"Uncle? I don’t need an uncle. I only need my father," the soul-sword grumbled.
Zane sighed. "Didn’t you say those Arcane Rings you ate were the tastiest thing ever?"
"Yes," the sword replied proudly, "but only after that delicious prototype weapon I devoured."
"Then you do need an uncle," Zane said, trying a different tactic. "Because this uncle is the one who gave me those Arcane Rings—and the last batch too. If you’re nice to him, he might give you something even tastier later."
"Really?" The sword’s tone instantly brightened.
Zane nodded solemnly.
Both Xoxo and Shelby exchanged glances—they couldn’t hear the sword’s voice but understood that Zane was in the middle of one of his "conversations."
A moment later, the sword slipped free from Zane’s hand and floated in front of Shelby. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
"Uncle Shelby," it spoke out loud in a childish voice, "Dad said you have tastier food than Arcane Rings. Is that true?"
Zane winked at Shelby.
Shelby burst into laughter. He reached into his silk pouch and poured out a pile of weapons—swords, spears, daggers, and axes—clattering to the ground.
"Here you go, little one. They’re all yours, if you tell me your name."
"Sword Baby."
Shelby raised an eyebrow. "Sword Baby? That father of yours is good at everything except naming things. Anyway, these are all yours. Help yourself."
"You’re the best uncle ever! You’ll be Sword Baby’s only uncle!" she said cheerfully.
Then, to everyone’s surprise, ten glowing mouths opened along the blade, sucking in every weapon in sight. A moment later, the air was filled with the sound of crunching metal.
After a few minutes, Zane cleared his throat. "Hey, what did we say about receiving gifts? You have to pay them back somehow, remember?"
"I know," Sword Baby said, repeating it twice for emphasis.
She opened one last, larger mouth and spat out a newly forged sword—a sleek katana with a black hilt and a crimson blade that shimmered faintly in the light.
"This is yours, Uncle Shel."
Shelby caught it and laughed heartily. "You’re a good girl. Next time, I’ll bring you something even tastier."
"Really?" she asked, delighted.
"Yeah, I never joke," Shelby said, strapping the new katana onto his back.
He gave the floating sword a gentle pat, and this time, Sword Baby didn’t resist his touch.
With that, the group moved forward to face the next Titan Warrior—one stronger and faster than before.
The Titan noticed Shelby the moment they entered its domain. As this was his personal training simulation, the creature saw only him.
It wielded a pair of massive axes, each as large as Shelby himself.
Both charged at the same moment—the Titan roaring with raw killing intent while Shelby met it head-on, his movements sharp and confident.
He dodged the twin strikes with lightning speed, dancing around the Titan’s swings with agile precision.
After two minutes of exchanging blows, Shelby’s excitement faded into boredom.
He lifted Sword Baby in a clean arc—
—and in the next instant, the Titan’s head rolled across the ground.
"Huh. That was easy," Shelby muttered, glancing at the sword in his hand.
