My Borderline Supervillain-Slash-Hero System-Chapter 85 Laws
Chapter 85: Chapter 85 Laws
Ding!
[That Punch Contained Laws!]
Laws?
Zane blinked at the floating system prompt, confused.
What laws? he wondered, the words echoing inside his head.
He was so consumed by the weight of the moment that he didn’t think to ask the System any follow-up questions.
"Shelby," he called out, deciding that a human mind might help where the System felt vague. "Shelby!"
The only reply was the sound of deep snoring. Dead asleep.
Zane frowned. That wasn’t going to stop him.
He stomped over to the couch and gave Shelby a solid kick.
Shelby shot up, startled. "What the—?!"
"One last question," Zane said hastily. "Do you know anything about Laws?"
Shelby blinked blearily at him, then slowly rubbed his eyes. "Oh? So you’ve already figured that out?"
Zane nodded with a proud smile.
Shelby sat up straighter on the couch, suddenly more awake. "That masked lady... yeah. She used Laws in that punch she threw at you."
"No," he corrected himself, "she didn’t just use a Law. She used multiple Laws. That’s why your body couldn’t even twitch—even when your brain was screaming to move, right?"
Zane nodded like a student eager to impress his teacher.
"I didn’t mention it earlier on purpose," Shelby said, watching him. "Wanted to see if you could figure it out. And you did—faster than I expected."
Zane didn’t waste time. "So... how do I break those Laws in her punch?"
Shelby grinned. "Simple. To break a Law, you have to use a Law."
Zane’s eyes widened. "So... you countered her punch with a Law?" freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
Shelby nodded proudly. "Yep. I used my Law of Spark."
Zane’s curiosity burned brighter. "What exactly is that? Can you explain more clearly?"
Shelby leaned back, stretching before he launched into an explanation.
"Alright, listen closely, kid. We live in a modern world—a world where both magic and science coexist. Back in Pre-Academy, they must’ve taught you about classical science alongside awakening theory, right? Stuff like Newton’s Laws, gravity, thermodynamics, chemistry..."
Zane nodded quickly.
"Good. Because that foundation is everything."
Shelby continued, "See, long before Awakening became common, humans studied the physical world. The behavior of matter, motion, energy—all that. Some Awakeners believed that if the brain could be trained to understand these Laws deeply enough, it could replicate or even bend those same Laws with mana."
"Like... science-infused magic?"
"Exactly," Shelby said, snapping his fingers. "Awakeners who understood and respected scientific laws began experimenting—infusing natural laws into their skills. It created a completely new form of magic. More efficient. More stable. Longer-lasting. More devastating."
Zane leaned in. "And the others?"
Shelby’s expression turned grim. "Many powerful Awakeners scoffed at the idea. They claimed it was blasphemy to mix the divine nature of Awakening with mundane science. It created a divide... a war, even."
"A war?"
"A hidden one. Most of it was scrubbed from history, but it happened. The Law-fusion users began to overpower traditionalists. The backlash was brutal. Most of the Anti-science-aligned mages were purged. Those who survived went into hiding—forming Villain Academies and rogue factions. Over time, the world forgot."
Zane swallowed hard. "So... the truth about Laws is being kept secret?"
"Exactly. Only the Academy’s top brass and a few affiliated organizations know the full story. They keep it under wraps so that the Villain Academies don’t gain the upper hand. But cracks are starting to form. Some students defect. Some secrets leak. It’s only a matter of time..."
He paused and smiled wearily. "You’re not supposed to learn about Laws until much later. But I figured, given what happened tonight, you’ve earned it."
Zane nodded slowly, letting it all sink in. His voice was low, almost reverent.
"So your Law of Spark... that’s science-based?"
Shelby grinned and raised his hand.
A faint arc of white electricity crackled between his fingers.
"My Law of Spark draws from electromagnetism, particle acceleration, and the nature of kinetic chain reactions. The deeper my understanding of those scientific principles, the more powerful my ’spark’ becomes. That’s how I was able to match the masked lady’s punch."
Zane’s eyes widened with realization. "So... Laws are actually the laws of nature?"
"Yup," Shelby nodded. "Mana inside us—and around us—is in harmony with the natural world. If we can find a common medium that aligns with our mana affinity, then a Law can be born within us."
Zane blinked. "Does that mean scientists or physicists who awaken have an easier time creating their own Laws?"
"Not exactly," Shelby replied, shaking his head. "Understanding theory is important, sure, but it’s not enough. You also need real-world experience—battles, missions, danger. Laws are forged through struggle, not just study. You need to use your mana, adapt it, push it to its limits. That’s when enlightenment happens—and that’s when a Law is born."
Zane asked, "So how do I harness a Law?"
"That’s what I’ve been explaining," Shelby said flatly.
Zane frowned. "You’re being vague."
Shelby sighed and sat up. "Fine. Let me show you what my Law of Spark actually is."
He paused, then asked, "You’ve heard of the term ’gradient’ or ’potential difference,’ right?"
Zane nodded. "Yeah. Like rivers flowing from high elevation to low. Or how heat moves from hot areas to cold. Or how mobile electrons move—basic electricity."
"Exactly," Shelby snapped his fingers. "Those are all manifestations of natural laws. The river example? That’s potential energy converting into kinetic. Hot to cold? That’s thermodynamics. Electron flow? Electricity. All of these are governed by physical laws."
He continued, "Now, my mana has a strong affinity with lightning. And lightning, as you know, is a form of electricity. So I built my Law based on that principle."
Zane leaned in, eyes sharp.
"To create my Law, I first divided my mana into two parts—one portion became positively ionized, and the other became negatively ionized. When I compressed the two together, the collision created an explosive, controlled spark. That spark isn’t just mana—it’s a completely new phenomenon. A Law unique to me."
He stood and raised his right hand, pointing his forefinger upward. A thick mist of shimmering blue mana began to rise.
He lifted his left hand and did the same.
"Watch closely. Both manas are the same—for now."
Under Shelby’s control, the mana above his right hand began to condense and vibrate rapidly, forming a chaotic, shimmering orb. The room shifted—the air itself seemed to tremble.
Zane suddenly felt his body being pulled toward the mass. "This... is positively ionized mana?"
Shelby just smiled in response.
Then he turned to the second orb. The mana above his left hand condensed next, but this one felt completely different. Zane felt a subtle push, a powerful repulsion crawling across his skin.
"Negative ions," Zane whispered. "That’s what this is."
Shelby nodded. "Now here comes the fun part. These two manas are polar opposites. What do you think happens when we force them together?"
He slowly brought both hands closer, compressing the opposing energies. The air crackled. Sparks erupted—tiny flashes of light and sound—fighting for dominance.
Then he snapped his fingers.
The sparks vanished. So did the mana.
Zane blinked, awestruck.
"That," Shelby said with a grin, "is a Law. You want to create one of your own? Start small. Observe nature. Understand it. Then apply your mana accordingly. That’s your first step."
He dropped onto the couch and sprawled out. "Now seriously—I’m exhausted. Do not disturb me again."
Moments later, the room filled with his soft snores.
Zane sat still for a moment, eyes glimmering with determination.
"This guy’s too healthy," he muttered. "But still... I’ve got to try. I will create a Law of my own."
