Chapter 19: Overflowing with mana

His lips curved faintly, and he nodded.

’This will be useful... I can’t let anyone know I’ve broken through.’

His breakthrough had not been subtle internally, but outwardly there had been no explosion, no external mana shockwave.

Still, Adept Magus rank was not something a student who was at low apprentice mages rank achieved overnight.

If others sensed his true aura, questions would come immediately.

Too many questions.

How did a mid–Apprentice suddenly become an Adept?

Where did he obtain the resources?

What mana art was he cultivating?

Who was backing him?

He had no answers he could safely give.

With Aura Mask, he could suppress his aura down to Apprentice rank. Or even lower if necessary. He could walk through the academy halls unnoticed, appearing exactly as he wished.

That alone made the skill very useful and important especially with his current situation.

He could not share details about his system or how he broke through to anyone.

Noah’s expression grew serious as that thought settled firmly in his mind.

He still did not understand the truth behind it. He did not know why it had appeared when he died. He did not know how it had rewound his life or granted him abilities far beyond what should have been possible.

He only knew one thing.

It had brought him back from the dead.

That alone was enough to prove it was not something ordinary.

If word of it spread, if even a hint of its existence reached the wrong ears, the consequences would be impossible to predict. Powerful families would pry. The academy would investigate. Elders would interrogate him.

He had no intention of becoming a subject of scrutiny.

He would keep it hidden.

No matter what.

He exhaled slowly, steadying himself.

Then his gaze shifted back to the second tab floating before him.

The translucent panel pulsed faintly.

[Limit-breaker]

[Level: ???]

[Description: Forcefully increase your rank by ten sub-stages, and triple your stats for five minutes. Note: This can only be used once a year. Side effect: Inability to move for five minutes and intense body pain.]

His eyes widened as he read the description fully.

Increase your rank by ten sub-stages?

He read it again to be sure he had not misunderstood.

Ten sub-stages! 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

Within the ranking system, each major rank was divided into low, mid, high, and peak.

That meant four sub-stages per rank.

Ten sub-stages...

That was more than a single rank jump.

It was nearly two!

If he were at low Adept, activating this would push him past mid, past high, past peak Adept—and into the next rank entirely.

It was basically a two-rank leap.

For five minutes.

As well as triple all his stats.

His breathing slowed.

This was not a simple skill, but was instead, something monstrous!

Then his gaze shifted to the lower portion of the description.

Once a year.

Inability to move for five minutes.

Intense body pain.

His expression changed.

The initial shock faded, replaced by uncertainty.

He did not know what to feel.

On one hand, the power described was overwhelming. A temporary two-rank leap could allow him to defeat opponents far beyond his natural stage.

On the other hand—

The restriction was severe.

He could only use it once a year.

That meant if he used it recklessly, he would have no second chance for twelve months.

And the side effect...

Five minutes of immobility.

After five minutes of power.

His eyes narrowed slowly.

’It’s a double-edged sword...’ he thought.

Five minutes.

That was all the time he would have to resolve whatever situation forced him to activate it.

Five minutes to win, escape, or survive... whatever he wanted to do with the skill.

After that—

He would collapse, and would lose all ability to move.

As if that wasn’t enough, he would also be wracked with intense body pain, leaving him vulnerable.

If he failed to finish what he started within that window, his life could be in serious danger.

An enemy who endured those five minutes would simply wait.

Then kill him while he lay defenseless.

The risk was enormous.

The skill was powerful.

But it demanded good judgement.

He let out another slow breath.

’It’s better I don’t use it.’ he thought. ’At least, not carelessly.’

Limit-breaker was clearly a last resort, something sort of a trump card for when his life was in serious danger.

Noah dismissed the Limit-breaker tab and focused again.

’Status.’

The window responded immediately.

Noah’s lips curled upward slowly.

A smirk formed.

He now had three hundred mana points.

The number alone explained the violent burst he had felt earlier when he broke through.

Originally, when he first awakened the system, he had only thirty mana.

Now—

Three hundred.

His mana had increased drastically, which explained the overwhelming surge within his core.

In addition to the ambient mana he had absorbed and refined from his room, the system itself had supplied more with every level up.

Each advancement had not only raised his rank but injected raw mana directly into his core.

And then there was the breakthrough into Adept Magus.

That rank change alone had triggered another massive influx, as though an entirely new reservoir had been unlocked.

The absorption.

The level-ups.

The rank breakthrough.

All of it together had brought his mana points to three hundred.

From thirty... to three hundred.

Ten times the amount he originally possessed.

The difference was absurd.
