Chapter 40: I’ll kill you now

Noah’s eyes narrowed sharply.

"Damn it..."

A faint hiss escaped his lips as irritation surged through him.

"That stupid spiked dog... it has implicated me."

His gaze flickered briefly toward the corpse of the spike dog lying not far away.

If that beast hadn’t killed the wolf pup—

None of this would be happening.

Noah felt an absurd urge to walk over there and beat the corpse into a pulp.

His fingers even twitched slightly.

’That idiotic mutt...’ he thought bitterly.

It had eaten the wolf pup, and now the wolf believed Noah was responsible for everything.

He could already imagine smashing the dog’s skull repeatedly just to vent his frustration.

But the thought faded just as quickly.

’...Pointless.’

The thing was already dead.

Beating a corpse wouldn’t change anything.

Noah slowly turned his gaze back toward the red-striped wolf standing several meters away.

He clicked his tongue in annoyance.

"Tch."

The beast hadn’t attacked again.

Not yet.

And Noah knew exactly why.

Its sharp, predatory eyes remained fixed on him, but there was a visible trace of confusion hidden beneath the fury.

That strange mirror from earlier.

The Ice Mirror.

The wolf had slammed into it head-first and been blasted backward.

To a beast relying heavily on instinct and physical dominance, that must have been incredibly strange.

It didn’t understand it.

And because it didn’t understand it—

It was more cautious.

But that wasn’t the only thing affecting it.

Noah’s gaze swept across the wolf’s body.

Its muscles were trembling.

It was subtle but still noticeable especially with his high senses.

Thin streams of chilly smoke still drifted from patches of its fur.

The Ice Mirror hadn’t just reflected the attack.

It had discharged frost mana into the wolf’s body.

The lingering cold was still gnawing at its muscles and nerves.

The wolf’s legs occasionally twitched as it tried to stabilize its stance.

It was shivering.

The frost was slowing it down.

Noah frowned slightly.

"...He’s waiting."

That realization settled heavily in his mind.

His senses sharpened.

The forest around them seemed quiet at first—

But when he focused harder, he could hear distant rustling sounds drawing closer.

Multiple bodies moving quickly through the bushes, and they were approaching fast.

Noah’s eyes darkened.

Red-striped wolves rarely hunted alone.

That was common knowledge.

They operated in packs, which was why they were lethal.

This one must have charged ahead recklessly when it sensed the death of the pup.

Now it was waiting.

Waiting for the rest of its pack to arrive before attacking again.

A slow, mocking scoff escaped Noah’s mouth.

"Waiting for backup, huh?"

Lightning suddenly crackled faintly within his chest.

A spark.

Then another.

Energy surged from his mana core.

[Electric Overcharge]!

Lightning sparks rapidly spread across his body.

They crawled outward from his chest like living threads of electricity, spreading to his shoulders, arms, torso and his legs.

Within seconds, lightning wrapped around his entire body.

Crackling arcs of electricity danced across his skin and clothing.

His hair lifted slightly under the static charge.

He looked like a human battery.

A glowing silhouette of crackling blue-white energy standing beneath the towering forest trees.

The ground beneath his feet lightly sizzled as stray sparks struck it.

Noah rolled his shoulders slowly, feeling the power flooding his muscles.

His heartbeat accelerated.

His senses sharpened.

His body felt lighter.

A wide smirk slowly spread across his face.

The boost in power coursed through his veins like liquid fire, and le loved it.

The feeling of raw strength humming inside his body was intoxicating.

The wolf’s ears flattened slightly as it watched the lightning wrap around Noah.

It could easily sense the change in the air around Noah, as well as how much more dangerous he had gotten, and couldn’t help but feel a chill run down its spine.

But Noah didn’t give it time to react.

His smirk widened.

"I won’t wait for your pack to get here."

The ground beneath his foot cracked slightly as he pushed off.

Lightning flared violently around him.

Then—

He dashed forward.

A blur of electricity shot across the clearing.

"I’ll just kill you right now."

The red striped wolf also lunged forward in anger, baring its fangs.

Or at least it tried to, but almost immediately, the wolf’s momentum was brought to a halt.

A creeping realization flashed across its mind as it subconsciously glanced down at its limbs.

Thick ice now encased its legs, rooting it to the ground as if the forest itself had reached down to punish it.

The wolf let out a deafening, frustrated roar, thrashing violently against the ice hold, fangs snapping at the air in rage. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Snow-like frost flaked off its limbs with each frantic movement, but the ice held firm.

Noah’s expression remained calm, his smirk sharper now.

He raised a hand slowly, as if conducting an orchestra of destruction.

Two long, jagged arrows of crackling lightning suddenly materialized in front of him, hovering like deadly missiles.

Sparks danced along their edges, illuminating the frost-covered forest floor around him.

With a decisive motion, he shot both arrows forward.

The first struck the wolf’s head with pinpoint accuracy.

Lightning lanced through its skull in a brilliant flash, frying the creature’s brain and leaving its body momentarily twitching from the shock.

Before it could recover, the second arrow drove into its chest.

The bolt drilled through the thick muscle, frying its insides instantly, and sending smoke rising from its fur as the electrical energy coursed through its body.

The wolf let out one last, pitiful growl, before collapsing completely.

Noah exhaled, a bead of sweat rolling down his temple and streaking his cheek.

His chest rose and fell as the tension finally left him.

He glanced down at his hands, surprised he had actually managed to form two lightning arrows almost simultaneously.

He hadn’t expected to manage more than one in a single instance, yet instinct, timing, and his upgraded stats had made it possible.

[Ice Hold level up!]

[Ice Hold now level 2!]

[Lightning Arrow level up!]

[Lightning Arrow now level 2!]
