Chapter 58: When we get home

Tou had taken punches before. Fights between young magi weren’t exactly rare, especially among arrogant students who liked showing off their abilities.

But this felt completely different.

It didn’t feel like he had just been punched by someone his age, much less someone who was meant to be nothing but a weakling.

It felt like he had been struck by a hard rock.

But it wasn’t over.

Not even close.

Noah was still gripping his wrist.

Tou felt the crushing pressure around the bones of his hand and forearm, the grip as immovable as iron shackles. The pain from his broken wrist throbbed violently, making sweat pour down his forehead.

He tried to yank his arm free.

His body twisted, his shoulder pulling back as hard as he could.

But Noah’s grip didn’t move even a single inch.

It was like trying to pull away from a steel vice.

Panic crept into Tou’s chest as he struggled uselessly against the hold. His breathing grew heavier as he realized the terrifying truth.

He couldn’t escape.

Noah slowly pulled his fist back again, his gaze fixed coldly on Tou with a cold expression.

Then his fist shot forward again.

Blam!

The second punch landed on the exact same cheek.

Tou’s head snapped sideways once more, this time even harder than before. More blood sprayed into the air, and several more broken teeth flew out of his mouth before clattering onto the ground.

The impact made Tou’s legs buckle.

The world tilted dangerously as nausea surged in his stomach.

He could barely keep himself standing.

Behind him, the brown-haired girl finally snapped out of her stunned silence.

Her eyes widened in panic as she rushed forward toward Noah.

"Leave him alone!" she shouted, hitting Noah on his chest to push him away.

But the strike was too weak, and Noah didn’t even flinch at her attack.

He slowly turned his head toward her.

The girl glared at him furiously, her face flushed with anger.

"No one from your useless, trash family should—"

Her words never finished.

SMACK!

Noah’s hand moved faster than she could react.

The slap landed cleanly across her cheek.

The sharp sound echoed loudly through the empty street.

Her head whipped to the side as the impact rippled across her face.

Her eyes widened in complete shock.

A bright red mark immediately spread across her cheek, the skin swelling almost instantly under the force of the strike.

For a few seconds she simply stood there, frozen.

Then her lips trembled, and tears slowly pooled in her eyes.

A sob escaped her throat before she could stop it.

Soon she was crying openly, clutching her swollen cheek with shaking hands as tears streamed down her face.

The arrogant girl from moments ago had completely vanished.

In her place was a trembling, humiliated child.

Noah didn’t spare her another glance.

He finally released Tou’s wrist, flinging the boy to the side.

Tou’s body crashed heavily onto the ground with a rough thud, rolling slightly before coming to a stop.

He groaned weakly, subconsciously holding his wrist, which was now reddened from Noah’s firm grip.

Suddenly, he coughed out blood, his face growing pale.

He kept coughing out blood, his chest heaving heavily as he tried to breathe.

Even though Noah’s punches had indeed broken some of his teeth, it wasn’t the reason he was coughing out blood.

Due to the spell he failed to cast earlier, the mana surged back into his mana core, causing a backlash which led to this.

It was one of the things a magus had to watch out for when casting spells, so as not to suffer backlash from their own attack.

On the other hand, the brown-haired girl stumbled back in fear, instinctively retreating away from Noah.

Her earlier anger had vanished entirely, replaced by fear.

Noah’s gaze slowly swept across the group.

First Tou, lying helplessly on the ground.

Then the crying girl.

Then the two remaining girls standing a few steps behind them, their faces pale with shock.

"Mess with my sister again," he said slowly, each word carrying a clear warning, "and I’ll make you regret it."

The threat hung heavily in the air.

None of them dared respond.

The arrogant confidence they had shown earlier had completely disappeared.

Noah didn’t say anything more to them.

Instead, he simply turned his head slightly and gestured toward Amelia.

"Let’s go, Lia..." he said calmly.

Amelia blinked, as if snapping out of a trance.

Her eyes instinctively drifted back to the four figures they were leaving behind.

Tou was still groaning on the ground, clearly in pain. The three girls looked shaken and frightened, their earlier smug expressions nowhere to be seen.

Seeing them like that made Amelia’s heart beat strangely.

Part of her still felt nervous around them after everything they had done to her, but another part of her felt something else now.

Relief, and also a faint sense of vindication. After all, she was finally free from them.

She quickly stepped forward to meet Noah.

When she reached his side, her hand slowly reached out and wrapped around his.

Noah glanced down briefly as her fingers held onto his.

Amelia’s lips curled into a light smile.

Then the two of them began walking away from the street together.

Behind them, the four bullies remained completely silent, without saying another word.

Amelia walked quietly beside Noah for a while.

Her small hand held onto his firmly, as if afraid he might disappear if she let go.

Every few seconds, however, her eyes would drift toward him.

She would look up at his face, then quickly look away again.

Her mind was filled with thoughts.

’When did he... get so cool...?’

The thought appeared before she could stop it.

Her cheeks warmed slightly as she replayed the scene she had just witnessed.

Noah had stood there so calmly, also oozing with so much confidence.

He had defeated Tou without even using magic, and he had done it so effortlessly at that.

Amelia couldn’t help but feel amazed.

But another thought quickly followed.

’Was he really suspended...?’

That part still confused her.

Tou had clearly said it earlier, and to her surprise, Noah hadn’t denied it.

Her eyes drifted toward him again.

Noah suddenly exhaled.

The sound was quiet, but Amelia immediately froze when she heard it.

Without even looking at her, Noah spoke.

"Just say what’s on your mind," he said. "Instead of staring at me like that."

Amelia’s face instantly turned red.

She coughed lightly in embarrassment and quickly looked straight ahead, pretending she hadn’t been staring at him repeatedly.

"S-sorry..." she muttered awkwardly.

For a moment she hesitated.

Then she slowly gathered the courage to ask the question that had been bothering her.

Her voice came out soft and uncertain.

"Were you... really expelled at the academy?"

Noah’s footsteps slowed slightly.

A strange glint flashed across his eyes the moment he heard the question.

For a few seconds, he didn’t respond.

The street ahead of them remained quiet as they continued walking.

Amelia could feel the subtle change in his mood.

She began to wonder if she had asked something she shouldn’t have.

Just as she was about to apologize again—

Noah finally spoke.

"We’ll talk about it..." he said calmly. "...when we get home."
