My CEO Ex: Let Me Go.-Chapter 129
Other’s POV
Eliza lingered in the hospital room for a while before finally leaving.
When she reached the floor below, she spotted Jane still standing in front of a car, as if waiting for someone.
At the same time, Jane saw her, waved, and walked over. "Miss Eliza, I need to talk to you. Do you have a moment?"
Eliza and Jane sat in the corner of a nearby café, each ordering a cup of coffee.
"Go ahead, Jane. What is it you want to say?"
Jane smiled and said, "CEO Hawthorne has a message for you, Miss Eliza. Ambition is fine, but you need the strength to back it up, or you’ll only bring disaster upon yourself."
Eliza’s expression froze. "I don’t understand. What does CEO Hawthorne mean by that?"
"That incident with Director Vivienne at the theater, when she was photographed... You were the one who leaked it, weren’t you?"
"Don’t deny it so quickly. I can say this because CEO Hawthorne has already investigated everything thoroughly."
Eliza’s face turned pale.
"Also, you’ve been in contact with Mason and Ashton."
Eliza’s breath caught. "I don’t know what you’re talking about!"
She hadn’t expected that in such a short time, Alexander had already figured everything out!
Jane wore a confident smile, her tone calm. "Mason, Ashton, and four other shareholders have already been arrested by the police."
Eliza, still holding her ground, asked, "So what?"
"You’ve been careful, but to keep a secret, you have to make sure it’s never done in the first place! Do you really think CEO Hawthorne’s people are fools?"
Everyone knew that someone at CEO Hawthorne’s level had a few unsavory methods.
He knew about a young man close to him, someone who had direct contact with him and used to be the head of the largest local gang.
Eliza’s face turned ashen, and she collapsed into her chair. "It was Isabella who ordered me to do it!"
She would never take the fall for Isabella, especially not for something that could land her in prison!
At that moment, she finally realized that some of the things from the past weren’t because they had threatened Alexander, but because Alexander had been biased and indulgent toward them.
Now that Alexander had withdrawn his favoritism and leniency toward Isabella, they were left helpless.
The results of the recent investigation had been released, and the court upheld the previous ruling, releasing the surveillance footage from that time.
Mason, realizing things were going south, secretly contacted John’s secretary to discuss compensation.
At the time of the incident, John had suggested trying to settle things through compensation to hush it up.
Mason had refused and teamed up with the media to escalate the issue.
Now, Vanguard Global Enterprises could no longer accept the previous compensation offer, stating that they would wait for the work injury and liability determination before discussing compensation or a lawsuit.
With the available evidence, the work injury determination was unlikely to succeed. The deceased had been primarily responsible for the accident, which meant the humanitarian compensation from Vanguard Global Enterprises would likely be much lower than the amount John had originally proposed.
Mason was beside himself with frustration.
At this point, Eliza contacted Mason and explained, "The work injury assessment will take at least a month, and negotiating compensation will take time too. Besides, you’ve caused Alexander quite a bit of trouble. He’s definitely not going to just hand over the money without a fight. He’s likely to deliberately delay the negotiations, lower the compensation amount, and force you to file a lawsuit. From submitting the case to the court’s judgment, it could take months. Vanguard Global Enterprises’ lawyers might even drag it out further. By the time you get the compensation, it could be a year or two from now. Your father is the primary party responsible, and you may not even get the money. In fact, Alexander might sue your father and use your own assets to cover the company’s losses... That’s the nature of capitalists. Their treachery is beyond imagination!"
Her words stirred up more and more anger in Mason, planting deep resentment toward Alexander in his heart and sparking thoughts of revenge.
Meanwhile, Vanguard Global Enterprises’ stock price continued to fall, and by last Friday, some investors, filled with frustration, gathered in front of the company’s headquarters, causing a scene.
Ashton, who had been dabbling in the stock market for a long time, hoping to get rich overnight, had invested everything he had, only to come close to losing it all. His wife had packed up and moved out with their child from their rented apartment. Later, under Eliza’s encouragement, he grabbed a knife and went after Alexander.
Isabella’s POV
"Isabella, CEO Hawthorne is sending you to another country, and you’re never coming back. But my parents are still here, and I can’t leave with you. Take care of yourself from now on," Eliza sighed as she spoke to me in the hospital room.
Her words hit me like a punch to the gut, leaving me stunned and speechless. "Eliza, you’re leaving me too? Please, don’t go yet! I’m not giving up!"
I spoke urgently, struggling to sit up, but the movement pulled at my wound, and the pain forced me back down onto the bed.
"Alexander’s heart is no longer with you. Nothing you do will change that. It might be better for you to go abroad. There’s still a chance for you to start over, but I can’t go with you. Take care of yourself."
With that, Eliza left the room.
"Eliza! Eliza..." I cried out, my emotions spiraling as I called her name.
I watched Eliza walk away, staring wide-eyed, my vision blurring with tears.
Even Eliza wasn’t helping me anymore.
Was I really going to be sent overseas, alone?
In the hospital room, my mother, Delilah, placed a bowl of soup on the table and began muttering as she served me. "Look at you, in this state, and Alexander hasn’t even bothered to show his face."
I leaned back against the bed, irritated, not responding.
Delilah sat down beside me, apparently oblivious to my frustration, and continued, "After all these years with Alexander, how could you still lose to a woman like Vivienne? I just don’t understand why you had to leave. If you hadn’t, you’d be his wife now! I’m telling you..."
"Can you stop talking?" I interrupted her, my patience wearing thin.
If given the choice, she wouldn’t have left either. But I had no other option...
"I’m your mother, and I’m just looking out for you. What’s wrong with giving you some advice?"
Delilah pouted, clearly displeased. She fed me a few spoonfuls of soup before continuing, "Everyone knows you and Alexander were together, and now look at what’s happened. You’ve only been back for a short time, and now you’re about to leave again. Your father and I don’t even know how to face anyone. When old friends ask, I feel like I’ve lost all my dignity."
I closed my eyes, gritting my teeth as I asked, "Where’s Dad? What’s he been doing these past few days?"
Dad had promised to help me deal with Vivienne, but where was he now?
I knew it—my parents were utterly unreliable!
"Your dad? Don’t count on him. He’s probably off finding another mistress and living it up!"
I fell silent.
Why were my parents like this?
My father was obsessed with showing off, had no real power at the company, and only knew how to drink, eat, and play while keeping a mistress.
My mother, with little sense of reality, couldn’t see the truth and argued with my father all the time, always complaining.
I almost envied Vivienne.
She had struggled a bit in the first few years, but after that, without breaking a sweat, she became Alexander’s wife.
"Your dad is useless. If you need anything, it’s better to come to me."
I glanced at my mother but didn’t say anything.
Delilah frowned, "What’s with that look?"
I sighed, feeling impatient. "I don’t mean anything by it. Don’t overthink it."
After a few more quarrels, Delilah left, her face downcast.
