My CEO Ex: Let Me Go.-Chapter 172
Vivienne’s POV
I looked at Alexander coldly, as though I had just heard a bad joke. "Didn’t you say you were going to set me free? Pop-Pop is gone, and we’re already divorced. Why are you still pretending like this?"
A flash of pain crossed Alexander’s eyes, as if he hadn’t expected me to say this.
I truly no longer trusted him.
"I regret it, Vivienne," he said, his voice low. "I shouldn’t have let you go. You’re right—Pop-Pop is gone, so why should I keep pretending? Vivienne, whether you believe it or not, I really do care about you. I don’t want to divorce you."
He’d said this before—that he cared about me. But when I asked him when he started feeling that way, he couldn’t answer.
And even if he was telling the truth, why should I take him back?
Should all the pain I had endured just be erased like that?
I spoke coldly. "There’s no cure for regret. I don’t know what made you say this, but let me be clear—I don’t plan on remarrying you."
I couldn’t understand why Alexander would leave Isabella and come here to put on this act for me. Was there some clause in Grandpa’s will that said Alexander couldn’t divorce me until he became chairman? That seemed like the only reason he’d still be bothering me.
At my words, Alexander pressed his lips together and fell silent, his cold aura growing even more intense.
I had made myself clear—I wasn’t getting involved with him again.
It was like a sharp dagger had been driven into his heart.
"Vivienne, get in the car. We’re leaving."
Sophie got out of the car, opened the back door, and practically shoved me inside. She shot Alexander a glare before quickly taking the front seat.
She had never wanted me to get involved with Alexander. Ariana had been the one to stop her, saying I needed to handle this myself first, and if I couldn’t, they’d help.
After all, I had to face him sooner or later.
Even though I was divorced from Alexander, it wasn’t like I’d caused a scene. Evelyn was still alive, and we would eventually cross paths again.
Once Sophie was settled, Ariana hit the gas and we drove away from the airport.
Through the rearview mirror, I saw Alexander standing alone in the empty parking lot, looking so small and lonely.
His gaze lingered on the car as it drove away, a distant, desolate look in his eyes.
I turned away, unwilling to look any longer.
Sophie couldn’t help but complain, “That scumbag Alexander really won’t leave you alone. He’s about to marry Isabella, and he’s still running around trying to drag you back in.”
I remained silent.
Ariana glanced at the rearview mirror and said, “Let’s not talk about him. It’s ruining the good mood we have right now.”
Sophie changed the subject, asking with a teasing tone, “Vivienne, didn’t Julian just confess to you?”
“No, don’t make things up. We’re just friends,” I said, shaking my head in confusion. I didn’t understand why Tang Shi would say that.
“He didn’t confess, but you let him kiss you?!”
“When did he kiss me?” I asked, shocked.
“Just now, at the terminal. Didn’t he kiss you?”
I recalled the scene and quickly explained, “He gave me a necklace and said he wanted to put it on for me. Maybe the angle made it look like a kiss.”
So, Alexander must have thought Julian kissed me and came running over to ask if we were together.
Sophie peeked through the seat gap and noticed the necklace around my neck. She grinned and nodded. “Julian has good taste. That necklace is beautiful.”
“I didn’t want to take it, but he insisted. I’ll get him a gift to return the favor later.”
“Oh, come on, Vivienne, don’t be so polite. He gave it to you because he wanted to. He’s not expecting anything in return.”
“I can’t just accept an expensive gift like that. I know he’s not lacking money, but I can’t take something so precious from him.”
Sophie rolled her eyes and sighed. “What a pity.”
It was clear to Sophie that I had no feelings for Julian.
According to the original plan, we should have just returned from Somaroi Island.
But now, we had decided to head to Fjord Town instead.
Fjord Town was a small village under the jurisdiction of Tromsø.
Here, I could enjoy the stunning fjord scenery and the Aurora.
At this time of year, the town was also in the midst of Polar Night.
We wandered through the town, taking in the pristine coastline and the breathtaking snow-capped mountains, stopping occasionally to snap pictures.
During this time, Sophie and Ariana kept a quiet eye on my mood.
I couldn’t help but smile at their secretive glances. “You don’t need to worry. I’m fine. It’s just that seeing him... it made me feel a little down. I mean, which woman feels great seeing her ex-husband?”
Sophie patted me on the shoulder. “Vivienne, it’s good that you’re able to let it go.”
We then returned to the hotel in Tromsø to rest for the night, preparing to head to Lofoten Island the next day.
Maybe we’d gotten a bit tired of the endless snow, because instead of staying overnight on Lofoten Island, we decided to return to Tromsø that same evening.
It was just around mealtime, so we drove straight to the restaurant Sophie had recently discovered.
After finishing our meal, when it was time to pay, I opened my small handbag, only to find that my wallet was missing.
“Hey, where’s my wallet? Did I forget it at the hotel?”
At first, I didn’t even consider the possibility of theft.
Sophie saw the empty bag and pulled out her own wallet. “Here, use mine.”
I took Sophie’s wallet, muttering in confusion, “This is weird. I remember putting it in my bag when we left. It can’t just be gone, right?”
“It must’ve been stolen,” Sophie said, her tone firm.
I frowned, starting to realize it wasn’t likely that I had lost it. My bag had a clasp, and when I’d opened it earlier, it had been securely closed.
The wallet was either left at the hotel... or stolen.
Losing the cash didn’t bother me too much—it wasn’t much in Norwegian krone, and I could cancel my bank cards online or over the phone.
But my passport was inside, and I’d need it for immigration.
Losing that would be a huge hassle, even though I could replace it eventually.
“Let’s finish eating, then go back to the hotel,” I said.
“Okay.”
Back at the hotel, I searched my room, but it wasn’t anywhere to be found.
Sophie and Ariana had no better luck.
“It’s probably been stolen. We should call the police,” Sophie suggested.
The three of us went to the nearest police station to file a report.
From the officer’s reaction, I could tell that the chances of recovering the wallet were slim.
They didn’t know when exactly it had been lost, and with the heavy foot traffic on Lofoten Island—a popular tourist spot—it was hard to pinpoint when or where it might have happened.
As we left the police station, I sighed. “What bad luck. You two should go on the whale-watching tour tomorrow. I’ll head to Oslo and see what the embassy says I should do.”
“Do you want us to come with you?”
“No, it’s fine. I’ll go alone,” I replied.
After all, it would be an extra expense to go back and forth, and staying another night would only cost more.
Although Sophie and Ariana weren’t short on money, I didn’t want to trouble them any further.
It was a shame I wouldn’t get to go whale-watching.
Such a pity.
Back at the hotel, I was scrolling through my phone, trying to find a flight from Tromsø to Oslo for the next day.
There were still a few seats left on some flights, but the prices were sky-high due to the last-minute booking. Still, I couldn’t afford to pass them up.
I found a flight that worked and was about to confirm the booking when there was a knock at the door.
“Who is it?”
“It’s me.” A male voice answered from outside.
I listened closely and recognized it immediately—it was Frederick.
I opened the door and asked, “How did you know I was staying here? Is there something you need?”
Frederick stood at the door, and when he saw me, he shook the wallet in his hand. “Is this yours?” 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
I froze, stunned. “How did my wallet end up in your hands?”
