My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 723: Being Single is Most Important
After hanging up the phone, Zhang Yuxi heaved a heavy sigh.
Lin Feng comforted her. "He’ll come back eventually. Don’t worry."
The "Kuafu’s Journey to Jupiter" mission, scheduled to launch on New Year’s Eve, had been reported on several years prior. After the initial news, the project was never mentioned again and was gradually forgotten. It wasn’t until an announcement the day before New Year’s Eve that everyone suddenly remembered. It was a perfect example of working hard in silence only to stun everyone with success.
On New Year’s Eve, the entire family gathered around the television to watch the live broadcast.
"Ah, it’s my brother!" Xiao Bao exclaimed. The others, who were in the middle of making dumplings, quickly crowded around the TV.
On the screen, a reporter was interviewing Da Bao. The caption next to him read: "One of the Chief Designers of the Kuafu Project, Lin He."
Da Bao, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, had a poised smile on his handsome face. He answered the reporter’s questions unhurriedly. For someone his age, just being involved in such a project was an affirmation of his talent. The appointment as one of the chief designers was a testament to the nation’s recognition of his skill and its high regard for him.
His future was destined to be dedicated to his work, not his family. His life would shine because of the career he loved, which meant sacrificing family time for a greater cause.
"Da Bao is so handsome!" Xiao Bao said with awe. "I want to be just like him when I grow up!"
Zhang Yuxi glanced at her. "Then you’ll have to work very hard!"
Lin Feng smiled affectionately. "Your brother Da Bao is an extremely hardworking and ambitious person. Learning that from him is what truly matters."
The interview instantly made Da Bao a viral sensation, with countless girls clamoring to marry him online.
"Oh my god, is he handsome or what?"
"I can proudly say he’s my alumnus, hahaha!"
"I was lucky enough to meet him once. He’s super gentle and incredibly handsome!"
"Damn, this family’s genes are on another level!"
"My husband is impossibly handsome, okay? Marry me! I’ve already picked out names for our future children!"
"He’s literally the blueprint for a novel’s male lead—talented and gorgeous. I’m about to write a romance novel starring myself as the heroine."
"Good heavens, our god is so handsome and stoic! I’m practically licking my screen."
As the launch time arrived, the Kuafu project completed its final preparations and successfully embarked on its journey. Congratulations from various countries immediately began pouring in. Listening to the news report stirred a powerful emotion, bringing tears to the eyes. With this achievement, Da Bao had left a brilliant and indelible mark on the pages of history.
Outside, the sound of firecrackers erupted. Xiao Bao came running over, clasping her hands in a festive bow. "Dad, Mom, Happy New Year!"
Lin Feng smiled and pulled a prepared red envelope from his pocket. "Here you go!"
Zhang Yuxi beamed as she handed over her own. "Xiao Bao, Happy New Year!"
Xiao Bao cheerfully went around to greet each family member.
She turned to San Bao with a giggle. "Third Sister, I wish you success in your career and hope you stop being single this year!"
San Bao had received rave reviews for the first album she produced for a celebrity, praised for its extremely high quality. With that project as her stepping stone, her business was getting on the right track and earning her a good deal of money.
"Thanks for the good wishes, Xiao Bao. Here you go!"
Xiao Bao smiled sweetly, then pouted at Si Bao, who was absorbed in a video game. "Fourth Brother, when are you going to be done?"
Si Bao chuckled. "What’s up? After my red envelope? You’ll have to wait!"
Xiao Bao huffed and began rummaging through his pockets. "Who knows when you’ll be finished? I’ll just find it myself."
Si Bao yelped, "Hey! You can’t just go through someone’s pockets for a red envelope! This match is almost over, just wait a minute."
Frustrated, Xiao Bao went to find Er Bao. "Second Sister, Happy New Year! May you make a fortune this year!"
"Now that’s what I like to hear! Here, this red envelope is your reward." Er Bao already had hers out and ready.
Xiao Bao hugged her and gave her a smooch on the cheek. "Thank you!"
Er Bao was usually the one who gave Xiao Bao little toys and even made her dresses when she had time, spoiling her the most out of the four older siblings.
Si Bao finished his match and handed a red envelope to Xiao Bao. "Alright, say something nice."
Xiao Bao tilted her head. "I wish you great fortune and hope you find a girlfriend soon!"
Si Bao chuckled. "Making a fortune is secondary. Finding someone is what’s most important."
Zhang Yuxi suddenly remembered something. "I’ve already spoken with Qin Jiang’s mother. She’ll introduce you to a suitable girl when she finds one."
Si Bao was overjoyed. "Thanks, Mom!"
This sent Er Bao into a fit of laughter. "I have to ask, have you ever considered that you might be the problem?"
Si Bao looked surprised. "What’s wrong with me? I’m a great guy, aren’t I?"
Er Bao’s laughter erupted in a goose-like honk. "Mom, let me tell you, it’s completely his own fault he can’t find a girlfriend."
Zhang Yuxi grew concerned and asked quickly, "What happened?"
Could it be a health problem he’s too embarrassed to talk about?
Er Bao’s words had captured everyone’s attention, including a completely bewildered Si Bao.
"I know a junior from my university in Jingcheng. She’s quite pretty, comes from a wealthy family, and was interested in getting to know Fourth Brother.
"Since he was single anyway, I introduced them and even gave him a heads-up.
"Well, guess what happened? The girl came to me saying their personalities didn’t match and sent me some screenshots.
"She’d said, ’Your sister introduced me,’ and he replied, ’Oh, you must be the cleaner. How much is your hourly rate?’
"Then she said, ’I was wondering if we could get to know each other, maybe see where things go,’ and he replied, ’Sure, sure! How are your support skills?’
"She even sent him a photo. You know how girls edit their pictures a little nowadays; it’s completely normal. And what did he do? He sent her back a picture of himself looking down to show off his double chin and asked if she thought he was handsome... He sounded like a complete idiot."
Everyone was stunned.
Their silence was broken by Xiao Bao’s hearty laughter. "Fourth Brother, you’re hilarious!"
Zhang Yuxi took a moment to process it all before saying, "I thought you were just being melodramatic, but it turns out you’re a genuine fool." She glared at Si Bao. "Is that any way to date someone? With an attitude like that, it wouldn’t matter how many girls you met; none of them would work out."
Lin Feng spoke earnestly. "Si Bao, this won’t do. You need to change your methods."
For the first time, Si Bao began to seriously reflect on himself. Am I really the problem? He had always thought he was quite popular, his outgoing personality attracting many girls. They’d agree to chat, and then... nothing.
Distressed, Si Bao was desperate for a sweet romance. "No, Mom, you still have to set me up." He then turned to his sisters. "And Er Bao, San Bao, you two need to work hard for my happiness, too!"
Er Bao tossed an apple at him. "What’s the use of my efforts if you won’t put in any yourself? Who else is there to blame?"
Si Bao huffed. "Forget it. Relying on you is pointless. I’d have better luck with San Bao."
San Bao said, "Fourth Brother, you’d better not count on me. I’m not reliable either."
Si Bao was speechless. For some reason, he suddenly didn’t feel like laughing anymore.
He felt sad and turned to Lin Feng. "Dad, I want a red envelope, too."
Lin Feng brushed him off. "You’re too old to be asking for red envelopes."
Xiao Bao chimed in, "Exactly! Where do you get the nerve?"
Si Bao whined, "I just had my heart broken! Shouldn’t I get some coddling? Can’t I get a red envelope to cheer me up?"
Lin Feng shot him a look. "You have the gall to say that? If you’d been the least bit serious, this wouldn’t have happened."
Si Bao whined again, "Mom..."
Zhang Yuxi’s head was starting to ache. "Go away. Don’t ruin my good mood."
Si Bao was speechless again. Is this woman really my mother?
Er Bao, who was cracking melon seeds, reached into her pocket. "Here, I have a red envelope for you."
Si Bao scampered over. "Er Bao is the best."
A single one-yuan coin landed in his palm.
The smile on Si Bao’s face instantly froze.
