Chapter 733: Chapter 733: The Air of Human Life

「The next day.」

The family of three were each busy with their own tasks. There was no cafeteria at the school, so Lin Feng had to cook lunch and pick up his daughter. As for whether Zhang Yuxi would come back to eat, that depended on her work schedule.

They had only brought one car on this trip, which Zhang Yuxi drove off in, leaving Lin Feng to walk his daughter to school, holding her hand. The walk from their home to the school took about fifteen minutes at a brisk pace, twenty at a slower one, and up to half an hour at its most leisurely. On the way, many other parents were walking their children to school, and they couldn’t help but cast curious glances at such a beautiful little girl. Of course, the handsome Lin Feng also drew his fair share of looks. No matter where they went or how plainly they dressed, the two of them couldn’t help but stand out in a crowd.

Tian Tian was using the same textbooks from Yangcheng, as L-City used the same curriculum. Lin Feng took her to her classroom and greeted her homeroom teacher. "Mr. Li, we’ll be leaving Tian Tian in your care."

Mr. Li was a kind and gentle man in his fifties with a benevolent face.

Lin Feng waved goodbye to his daughter, who was sitting in the back row. Tian Tian had become quite the little lady and offered him a sweet smile in return.

On his way back, Lin Feng took the time to explore the areas around the school and their residential community, noting where to buy groceries, find shortcuts, and have some fun. After buying vegetables, he went home and busied himself with cooking so that it would be ready by the time he had to pick Tian Tian up from school.

Thankfully, L-City had bike-sharing services, which made getting around very convenient. The shared bikes had a small passenger seat on the back, similar to an electric scooter, and Lin Feng had a great time riding one. What delighted him even more was finding a parking station for the bikes right behind the shed outside their community. He could use this to pick up and drop off his daughter from now on!

I never expected this!

Lin Feng’s heart pounded as he rode. Riding alone was one thing, but carrying a child felt terribly unsafe. Maybe it’s because I haven’t ridden a bike in over twenty years...

"How did you get along with your teachers and classmates today?"

"Totally awesome, of course!"

"Did they all like the gifts?"

"They loved them!"

In the afternoon, after dropping Tian Tian back at school, Lin Feng went out to buy an electric scooter.

He couldn’t help but reminisce. It’s been so many years since I’ve ridden an electric scooter... Twenty-six years...

After buying it, Lin Feng took the new scooter for a spin, heading over to check out Zhang Yuxi’s workplace.

"Honey, when do you get off work?"

"I’ve still got a while. We have a work dinner tonight, so you and Tian Tian go ahead and eat. Don’t wait up for me."

"Okay. Should I come pick you up later?"

"I won’t be drinking, so don’t worry."

"Alright, in that case, come home early."

"I will!"

「After school.」

Tian Tian’s eyes widened at the sight of the brand-new electric scooter. "Wow, Dad, you bought an electric scooter?"

Her awestruck expression, as if she’d never seen one before, drew sideways glances from the people around them.

One child was even cruder, saying, "Pfft, you’ve never even seen an electric scooter? You must be so poor!"

Uh, it seems we’re being mocked...

In his approach to parenting, Lin Feng didn’t overly emphasize grades, focusing more on Tian Tian’s inner growth and her ability to live freely. Tian Tian was born into a much different environment than her older siblings, at a time when Lin Feng was already approaching middle age. Hearing another child mock her, Lin Feng watched his daughter’s expression closely to see if the little one would get angry.

For a moment, Tian Tian was indeed upset. Having grown up so coddled and happy, she had never been looked down on before. But she quickly recovered, rolling her eyes at the other child. "So what if you’ve seen one? Big deal!"

When she turned back to her father, she was once again brimming with excitement. "Dad, hurry, let’s go for a ride!"

It was true. In her entire life, this was Tian Tian’s first time on an electric scooter. Lin Feng was very pleased with his daughter’s response. With a smile in his eyes, he handed her a helmet. "Do you want to sit in the front or the back?"

Tian Tian eagerly hopped on the scooter, her smile exceptionally bright. "The front, of course! Let’s go, Dad, let’s go!"

L-City had a lively, down-to-earth atmosphere that the big cities lacked. Lin Feng rode the scooter around with Tian Tian, leisurely exploring the area.

"Tian Tian, that classmate was making fun of you earlier. Why didn’t you get angry?"

"Why should I get angry? My second sister said there’s no point wasting your feelings on people like that. It’s not worth it." Tian Tian’s voice was filled with laughter. "Let them laugh. It doesn’t change anything!"

Tian Tian had started acting at a very young age, blessed with a heaven-sent talent for it. Combined with her family’s circumstances, her worldview and experiences far surpassed those of her peers. Hearing her words, Lin Feng gave her a mental thumbs-up. No matter what the future held, he hoped Tian Tian would grow into a person with a strong heart.

That evening, when Zhang Yuxi drove the car to pick up her daughter after class, she learned that her husband had bought an electric scooter.

"Honey, want to give it a try?"

"Sure!"

While they waited for school to let out, Lin Feng took Zhang Yuxi for a spin on the new scooter.

"How does it feel?"

"It feels great! It’s probably been over twenty years since I was on an electric scooter. I really missed this."

The couple’s thoughts drifted back to the past. Back then, they weren’t well-off. After their fourth child was born, Zhang Yuxi commuted to and from work on an electric scooter. In those days, it was their family’s main mode of transportation.

Their little ride ended just as school was letting out. By the end of the day, many of the parents and teachers had already learned who Lin Feng’s family was. Some came up to say hello, while others simply stared with curiosity.

After picking up Tian Tian, when faced with the choice between the electric scooter and a car worth over two million yuan, she declared she wanted to take the scooter home. Zhang Yuxi didn’t feel like driving either, wanting to continue enjoying the experience. The electric scooters in L-City were mostly large, so a family of three riding on one was a common sight. Lin Feng had them try it, and they fit just fine. And so, Zhang Yuxi sat in the back while Tian Tian sat in the front. The plan was for Zhang Yuxi to drive the car to work the next day after they dropped Tian Tian off at school.

The electric scooter had its own conveniences. They could ride it right into the vegetable market.

"What do you two want to eat?" Lin Feng asked as he rode.

"I want the fish that Daddy makes..."

"Honey, I want some too..."

After buying groceries and returning home, the family of three settled into their own activities: Zhang Yuxi was busy with work, Tian Tian did her homework, and Lin Feng cooked dinner. The rental house was so small that they were constantly running into each other, and Zhang Yuxi had already seen Tian Tian playing while supposedly doing her homework several times. By now, she had adopted a more zen attitude about it and didn’t get angry. She simply offered a few reminders before heading to the kitchen to see if she could help.

"I thought you were having dinner with your colleagues tonight."

"We already got together at noon. We just had a meal at the restaurant downstairs from the office."

"How are your new colleagues? Are they easy to get along with?"

"They’re fine. It takes all sorts, you know."

Zhang Yuxi’s resume was nothing short of brilliant; her abilities and her status were extraordinary. She had graduated from a prestigious university and taught in Yangcheng, becoming a vice-principal within a few years. She later became the president of Yangcheng University, her greatest achievement being the work she did to elevate it into one of the top ten universities in the country. That journey took her nearly twenty years. Afterward, she became the deputy director of the Yangcheng Education Bureau. Now, she had been transferred to L-City as the acting Director of Education.

Her abilities were plain for all to see. Likewise, her relationship was the envy of many. Her marriage to Lin Feng had become a celebrated love story in Yangcheng, known and admired by any student who had studied there. After more than twenty years of marriage, their love was as strong as ever.

As a woman, Zhang Yuxi was, without a doubt, a resounding success.

When a woman is capable, comes from a wealthy family, and has a powerful husband—and all her children are forces to be reckoned with—then she is truly invincible.
