Gwendolyn watched Fang Zhen for a moment.

"Why do you want to see the Gang Zan Seal?" Gwendolyn asked.

"I've heard of the power of seals, but if their strength is only what I saw from Nick just now, I'd find them rather unimpressive," Fang Zhen said. "I want to witness a true seal and decide whether I should learn them."

"At the very least, it'll be a learning experience."

Hearing Fang Zhen's rather reasonable explanation, Gwendolyn thought for a moment and nodded.

"Come on, then."

Gwendolyn walked over to the weapon rack and picked up a one-handed short sword.

This sword was shorter than the one Nick had used, and it was a Single-Edged Sword.

Fang Zhen gripped his spear with both hands, assuming the ready stance for a level thrust.

"Come at me with your full strength. I'll be using a seal, so don't worry about hurting me. You won't be able to break through a true Gang Zan Seal," Gwendolyn said.

"We'll see," Fang Zhen replied.

Gwendolyn raised her left hand, made a fist with her thumb pointing up, and then slammed it against her chest, just off-center from her heart.

"Gang Zan!"

With a shout, an invisible force field instantly appeared.

Fang Zhen felt a power extending outward—he could sense it intuitively, but he couldn't see it.

This power extended much farther and was far stronger than what Nick had used.

A cold glint flashed in Fang Zhen's eyes as he executed a two-handed level thrust, aiming for Gwendolyn's throat.

"CLANG!"

The spear thrust out, but it felt as if it had struck an iron plate.

Two and a half meters away from Gwendolyn, the spear hit the invisible force field and was stopped cold.

'So hard!'

From the feedback in his hands, Fang Zhen knew he couldn't break through.

Gwendolyn suddenly dashed forward, breaking into Fang Zhen's centerline.

Fang Zhen redirected his spear, using the shaft to block Gwendolyn's Single-Edged Sword.

Gwendolyn didn't dodge. Instead, she thrust out her left hand, her index and middle fingers forming a sword-finger, and jabbed forward.

"Kun Sha!"

Gwendolyn shouted.

Fang Zhen immediately felt his head spin as if he were drunk, and he nearly lost consciousness.

In that instant, however, Fang Zhen triggered a passive skill.

'Control Interrupt!'

This skill was somewhat special. It could be used actively or triggered passively.

Gwendolyn's control-type seal had activated his Control Interrupt.

A powerful will surged from deep within Fang Zhen's mind, letting out a thunderous internal roar.

In that split second, he became completely clear-headed again.

Gwendolyn had already closed the distance to Fang Zhen.

Apparently, Gwendolyn was very confident in her 'Kun Sha' seal, which attacked a person's Spirit. She assumed Fang Zhen was defenseless and charged straight in. Her intent seemed to be to strike his spear-wielding hand with her Single-Edged Sword, then press the blade against his neck.

Gwendolyn had no killing intent, but if she succeeded, Fang Zhen would lose.

But Fang Zhen, having regained his senses, twisted his spear and swung the butt of the shaft toward Gwendolyn's chest.

"Huh?"

Gwendolyn was utterly shocked, not understanding why the Kun Sha Seal hadn't worked.

But there was no time for her to react. The defensive effect of her Gang Zan Seal had already vanished.

The spear shaft slammed into Gwendolyn's chest.

Living up to her title as a master, Gwendolyn managed to block her chest with the hilt of her Single-Edged Sword at the last second, absorbing some of the force.

The shaft struck Gwendolyn, sending her staggering back several steps before she regained her footing.

Gwendolyn's gaze toward Fang Zhen was filled with astonishment and utter surprise.

Fang Zhen, who had taken no real damage, kept his spear aimed at Gwendolyn.

"Cough, cough..." Gwendolyn took two steps back and lowered her Single-Edged Sword, its tip pointing to the floor.

"Let's stop. I'm getting old, and I don't have the stamina I used to. If we really kept going, I'm not sure I'd come out on top."

"I lost."

Gwendolyn was composed, admitting her defeat frankly.

"Youth has the advantage," Fang Zhen said, retracting his spear.

"Master!" Mark cried out in concern, rushing to Gwendolyn's side to check if she was injured.

Gwendolyn had taken a blow to the chest, which had probably bruised her lungs, but it wasn't serious.

Fang Zhen, meanwhile, was analyzing his experience with the Gang Zan Seal.

The Gang Zan Seal's defense was incredibly strong. From a distance of two and a half to almost three meters, his spear couldn't pierce it at all. It felt as hard as stabbing a steel plate and even had a property that made his spear deflect and slide off.

If his spear couldn't get through, a bolt from a Hunting Crossbow probably couldn't either.

What made the Gang Zan Seal so incredible was its all-around defense. If a pinpoint thrust couldn't break it, then sweeping, chopping, or smashing attacks would have an even harder time getting through.

Fang Zhen estimated that among all the attacks he knew, only a Flaming Arrow might be able to break the Gang Zan Seal. Even a Molotov Cocktail would be a long shot.

As for the Kun Sha Seal Gwendolyn had used on the offensive, it directly affected one's Spirit.

If it hadn't been for his Control Interrupt skill, Fang Zhen feared he would have been killed in the very first exchange.

This first encounter with a control-type ability made him extremely wary.

'I have to learn seals.'

'My close-range and long-range combat abilities are both developing, and my offense is getting stronger. But my defense seems weak in comparison. The Anti-Stabbing Suit can block stabs and slashes, but it can't stop blunt-force attacks or piercing shots.'

'The Gang Zan Seal could completely cover my weaknesses.'

Fang Zhen was now determined to learn the Gang Zan Seal.

At that moment, Gwendolyn had recovered and was no longer coughing.

"Truly astonishing. Your combat techniques aren't complex, but they feel like they've been tempered a thousand times over. It feels like they were honed on a battlefield. Just as you said, they're true killing arts."

"Perhaps you can help me with something I've wanted to do for a long time but never could," Gwendolyn said.

Fang Zhen nodded slightly.

His challenge to Gwendolyn had also been a test, after all.

Gwendolyn must need something from him, too. Otherwise, she wouldn't have answered so many questions or even personally demonstrated her skills to satisfy his curiosity.

'Who has time to do all that for a stranger if they don't want something in return?'
