My Computer Leads to an Instance Dungeon-Chapter 132 - 107: Blood-Red Secret Potion
Curse Seal World.
Fang Zhen rode his Jue Ying motorcycle through a twisted forest.
The sky was still overcast, but it was better than the last time he was here.
Fang Zhen picked up speed, heading toward the town.
He rode fast, entering the town in less than fifteen minutes.
Fang Zhen had a good memory for terrain, so he found Gwendolyn’s courtyard with ease. He stopped the motorcycle and knocked on the door.
Mark was the one who answered the door again.
After the door opened, Fang Zhen pushed his motorcycle into the courtyard.
Nick wasn’t around, but Gwendolyn was in the courtyard, sitting on a wooden stump and staring blankly at a pile of something before him.
Fang Zhen parked the motorcycle and walked over.
He followed Gwendolyn’s gaze and saw a piece of cloth on the ground. On it were some pale yellow granules that looked like large grains of sand.
"Master, how is your Alchemy experiment going?" Fang Zhen asked.
"I was just pondering that myself," Gwendolyn said. With a hint of confusion, he pointed to the small, pale yellow fragments and granules on the cloth. "I followed the secret formula exactly, but this was the result."
"Is this your alchemical product?" Fang Zhen asked.
"No. My alchemical product is something else. These fragments are what was produced after mixing my product with the cerebrospinal fluid of an Abnormal Ghost."
"It failed?" Fang Zhen asked.
"I don’t know. If it were a complete failure, it should have had no effect at all. But the alchemical product did work, at least in the sense that it solidified the cerebrospinal fluid into something like stone. The problem is, it was far too slow, taking nearly an entire night." Gwendolyn shook his head.
"For an Abnormal Ghost, this would be a slow-acting poison at best. And we haven’t even tested it on a live one, so it’s hard to say if it’s effective at all."
"But I’m certain I followed the secret formula perfectly. Why is the effect so different from the legendary Alchemy Medicine?"
Gwendolyn was completely baffled.
A moment later, as if remembering something, Gwendolyn turned to Fang Zhen. "What about you? Has the Alchemist you know made any progress?"
"A little," Fang Zhen said.
"Where is it?" Gwendolyn asked, a little excited as he grabbed Fang Zhen’s left arm.
Fang Zhen took out the potassium permanganate tablets. He had removed the outer packaging and cut them into strips of three.
As for why he cut them into strips of three, it was to make them look rarer and more advanced by having fewer of them.
"This is an alchemical result. It has a strong reaction with the cerebrospinal fluid of an Abnormal Ghost," Fang Zhen said.
"Let’s test it!" Gwendolyn said at once, his eyes lighting up.
Gwendolyn still had a bottle of cerebrospinal fluid left over from his Alchemy attempt. He brought it out, along with a copper alms bowl.
"Pour the Alchemy Medicine in here. You’ll see the effect once it comes into contact with the cerebrospinal fluid," said Gwendolyn.
"I’ll also need a bowl and some water," Fang Zhen said.
"I’ll get them right away," said Mark, who had walked over to get a look at the Alchemy Pills. He then ran into the back room.
Before long, Mark returned with a wooden bowl and a jug of fresh water.
Fang Zhen had read the instructions on the medicine’s packaging. The recommended ratio for one 0.1g potassium permanganate tablet was 1:4000 to 1:5000, which meant it could be dissolved in 400 to 500 milliliters of water.
However, he wasn’t trying to treat a wound; he was trying to kill a monster, so he decided to increase the concentration a bit.
Fang Zhen placed three potassium permanganate tablets in the bowl and poured in the fresh water.
Soon, the water turned a purplish-red.
Mark watched from the side, clicking his tongue in amazement.
Gwendolyn’s expression grew focused.
Gwendolyn opened the bottle of Abnormal Ghost cerebrospinal fluid and poured half of it into the copper alms bowl.
Seeing that the potassium permanganate had mostly dissolved, Fang Zhen poured the purplish-red solution into the copper alms bowl, over the Abnormal Ghost’s cerebrospinal fluid.
"SIZZLE!"
A sound like a slice of meat hitting a charcoal grill erupted.
Puffs of white smoke rose from the copper alms bowl. The cerebrospinal fluid within was visibly blackening and solidifying, forming a sort of burnt, cake-like substance that began to look carbonized.
Fang Zhen was quite surprised.
He knew the reaction would be strong, but he hadn’t expected it to be this intense—it was even giving off white smoke.
’I wonder what the principle behind this is.’
Gwendolyn also looked astonished and shot to his feet.
The reaction in the copper alms bowl lasted for about half a minute before gradually stopping.
Inside, both the Abnormal Ghost’s cerebrospinal fluid and the potassium permanganate solution had been boiled dry, leaving a black, sticky residue in the container.
"So, what do you think?" Fang Zhen asked, pulling his thoughts back to the present.
"Very effective," Gwendolyn said with admiration, but after a moment, he shook his head slightly. "This Alchemy Potion is powerful, but there’s still a huge gap between it and the legendary secret medicine."
"This stuff can harm Others, but it might not be as effective against species other than the Abnormal Ghost."
Fang Zhen thought for a moment.
"Master, you still have the Alchemy Potion you made to replicate that secret medicine, right?" Fang Zhen asked.
"I do. Why?" Gwendolyn asked.
"Then why don’t we mix our different potions together and see what happens?" Fang Zhen suggested. "Even if it’s not proper Alchemy, there’s no harm in trying. It’s not like we have any better ideas."
"Well..." Gwendolyn hadn’t considered that. After some thought, he said, "I suppose it’s worth a shot."
"Let’s do it, then," said Fang Zhen.
"I’ll go wash the equipment!" Mark, who was also finding this quite interesting, immediately picked up the copper alms bowl to clean it.
Soon, Mark brought back the copper alms bowl and also retrieved a small copper bowl, a more precious alchemical container.
Fang Zhen took another three potassium permanganate tablets to dissolve in water. After a moment’s thought, he added two more.
The concentration of the potassium permanganate solution in the copper bowl was very high, turning it a deep purple.
Meanwhile, Gwendolyn took out a small glass vial. When he opened it, it revealed a white powder that looked like salt.
"This is my alchemical product," Gwendolyn said. As he spoke, he poured a small amount of the product from the vial into the potassium permanganate solution in the copper bowl.
Something strange happened.
As soon as the white powder was poured into the potassium permanganate solution, the liquid immediately changed color and grew viscous.
The bowl of purplish-red solution now looked blood-red, like a bowl of freshly drawn blood. It even smelled a bit like it.
Fang Zhen was astonished. At the same time, he felt like they might be onto something.
Gwendolyn sensed it, too.
Gwendolyn put away the vial of his alchemical product and poured the remaining half-bottle of Abnormal Ghost cerebrospinal fluid into the copper alms bowl.
Fang Zhen then poured the entire bowl of blood-like liquid onto the cerebrospinal fluid.
Instantly, a large number of bubbles formed in the alms bowl. It seemed like an incredible reaction was brewing.
"Something’s wrong!"
Fang Zhen’s heart suddenly leaped in his chest, a dangerous premonition striking him.
"Master, get back! Get down!" he shouted, scrambling backward.
Gwendolyn didn’t know what was about to happen, but he chose to trust Fang Zhen and quickly retreated.
Just as Fang Zhen and Gwendolyn had backed away four or five meters...
"BOOM!"
A ball of fire shot up from the copper alms bowl in a violent explosion. A fireball soared into the sky, and the bowl itself was sent flying.
Fang Zhen’s eyes went wide as he stared at the scene before him.
’What the hell just happened?’
’What kind of reaction was that?’
’It’s more powerful than a black powder explosion. Almost on par with nitroglycerin, isn’t it?’
’Does it have to be this intense?’
Gwendolyn also stared blankly at the site of the explosion.
"CLANG!"
The bowl, which had been blasted into the air, landed on the ground, tumbling and bouncing a few times before coming to rest just in front of Fang Zhen’s feet.
Fang Zhen looked at the mangled copper alms bowl, but his mind was on something else entirely.
’I don’t care what principle is at work here—whether it’s a perversion of Alchemy or a breakdown of science—the power is undeniable.’
’With this formula, could I make something like a dynamite bomb?’
Gwendolyn, on the other hand, was completely dumbfounded.
Mark was frozen in place, as if hit by a Body Fixation Technique.
"BANG! BANG! BANG!"
Just then, a loud banging sounded at the door.
Fang Zhen glanced over.
The rigidly standing Mark seemed to snap out of his stupor. He hurried to the gate and asked, "Who is it?"
"It’s Yorick! What are you people doing in there? Is there a fire or something?" The voice of the town constable, sounding rather angry, came from outside.
Mark looked back at Gwendolyn, who nodded.
Mark turned back and opened the courtyard gate.
"What in the world are you up to? I was just passing by, and the blast nearly deafened me!" Yorick said, fuming.
"A failed Alchemy experiment," Mark said. As he spoke, he reached out his right hand to grab Yorick’s, as if to shake it.
Fang Zhen vaguely saw a shiny coin in Mark’s hand.
When Mark’s hand grasped Yorick’s, the constable felt a very tangible form of friendship.
"Is that so..." Yorick’s voice dropped a few degrees in intensity.
"Still, be more careful. I know the Master creates useful things, but a commotion this big makes my job difficult," the constable said.
"Of course, we’ll be more careful," Mark said.
Yorick clenched his right fist and nodded. His hands were tied now that he’d taken the money, so he didn’t press the matter further and turned to leave.
Mark breathed a sigh of relief and closed the courtyard gate.
Fang Zhen shifted his gaze back to Gwendolyn.
"Does the effect of this potion match that of the legendary secret medicine?" Fang Zhen asked.
"You should be asking what percentage of this new alchemical product’s power the legendary medicine has," Gwendolyn said, his face flushed in rare excitement. "And my answer is, not even ten percent."
"I don’t know what happened. I’ve never seen any record of this in any Alchemy tome. I’ve never even heard of such a thing."
"But I do know this: you and I are about to become Legends in this Kingdom as great Alchemists."
"This alchemical product we just created... it could change the balance of the world, alter the very course of history!"
Watching Gwendolyn’s fervent expression, Fang Zhen suddenly seemed to understand.
The Curse Seal World was home to many Others—some were beast-like, such as the Abnormal Ghosts, while others, like the Vampire Lords, possessed immense power and abilities.
The Whig Society had Curse Sealers, yet they had been forced to become an underground organization. This showed that the Others were more powerful—the Eternal Night Council held sway over the Whig Society.
But this blood-red secret medicine they had just stumbled upon... if the formula could be recorded and mass-produced, it could instantly close the power gap between ordinary humans and the Others.
The saying "technology changes the world" was no empty phrase.
In the Curse Seal World, one might say that Alchemy changes the world.
Gwendolyn’s current state of mind was much like that of Oppenheimer and his team after they created the atomic bomb; a clear realization that this invention would change the course of history in the Curse Seal World.
"We still need to test it in the field, though," Fang Zhen said.
He was brimming with confidence now.
At last, Fang Zhen had found a shortcut to speedrun the Ancient Castle Caverns.
That shortcut was this blood-red secret medicine.
"Let’s mix another batch of this medicine. I’m going to the Underground Cave to try it out." Fang Zhen was itching with anticipation.
Gwendolyn suddenly grabbed Fang Zhen’s right hand.
Fang Zhen raised an eyebrow, looking at Gwendolyn, his eyes asking what he wanted.
Gwendolyn spoke with firm resolve. "I’m going with you."
"I must witness this event that is destined to change the history of the Kingdom!"
